Sunday Funday - Week 3 & Week 4 - Highlights

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (10am)

Gone Rogue (Royal Blue) VS. Pink Pussycats (Neon Pink):

We would like to start out by apologizing for the mix up on our side about the scheduled game times. It will not happen again, we promise. That being said our first game of the morning was not off to the start we wanted due to the refs not knowing the correct time to be at the fields so it was unfortunate that we had to have one of the players ref the first half of the game un till a ref showed up. So we were limited on highlights due to the player not knowing we needed them. Gone Rogue came to play today and they started the scoring right away with 7 runs in the first inning. They also held off the Pussycats in the bottom of the inning. Gone came back in the top of the 2nd and scored another. Unfortunately the Pussycats could not get on the same page as Gone and let Gone scored another 5 runs in the 4 and another 4 in the 5th. That was all she wrote for the scoring in this game. Gone Rogue Wins 18-0.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (10am)

Untouchaballs (Dark Heather) VS. Balls and Dolls (Red):

For our second game of Sunday Funday we had a real close nail bitter. Both teams started out with some strong “D” and the first inning went scoreless. Untouchaballs put up the first score of the game in the top of the second and in the bottom they shut down Dolls with the help of Tim Gilchrist. He had an impressive double play in from a line drive to the pitcher’s mound and a great throw just in time to first to get the runner who should have tagged up. Both teams went back on the defense and both teams went scoreless until the 7th. In the top of the 7th Untouchaballs put the final nails in the coffin with the help of Gilchrist again with a HR and bringing in another from 2nd base. Going into the bottom of the 7th Dolls was down 4-0 and needed some magic to happen, unfortunately they were just not up for it and went scoreless to end the game. Untouchaballs Wins 4-0.

Cuernavaca Park Field 3 (10am)

Hose Draggers (Tennessee Orange) VS. Roshambo (Lime):

Our third game of the morning started out really hot on offense and then slowly became a defensive game. Hose was shut down in the top of the first and Roshambo came out swinging and put up 2 in the bottom. Hose answered right back in the top of the 2nd with the help of Frank Capobianco who plopped a kick to right field and never stopped running/dodging/stumbling home for a 2 run HR to tie it up. Hose came back in the top of the 3rd and scored 3 to take the lead back and held off Roshambo in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the 4th Hose extended the lead to 4 with a HR from Derrick Keaton and Roshambo answered right away with a 2 run Homer from Chad Laverty in the bottom of the 4th to make it 6-4 Hose. Going into the 6th Roshambo was down by 2 and needed some help to pull off a win and they got some from Kevin Clough who had his 2nd triple of the day and with the tying run at the plate Hose Dragger’s Chad Kasper had something else in mind who got the final out to stop the runs and end the game. Hose Draggers Wins 6-4.

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (11am)

Gone Rogue (Royal Blue) VS. Untouchaballs (Dark Heather):

The first game of the second hour was a looking like some players were a little tired from the first round. But Rogue started off the scoring in the first with a HR from Austin and they added 2 more in the inning. They also held Untouchaballs scoreless in the bottom of the inning. It was the same story in the second inning with 3 runs from Rogue and Untouchaballs couldn’t seem to get it together and didn’t score. The scoring held off for Rogue for a couple innings and Untouchaballs finally got a put something on the board in the 3rd with 3 runs making it 6-3 Rogue. The next 3 innings went scoreless for both teams and in the bottom of the 6th Michelle Wood tried to start a rally with a perfectly placed bunt but it wasn’t enough. Rogue put the final nails in the coffin in the top of the 7th with 3 final runs. Gone Rogue Wins 9-3.

 Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (11am)

Balls and Dolls (Red) VS. Ballsagna (Neon Orange):

Ballsagna started out hot and put 1 up in the top of the 1st and 2nd. They held off Dolls in the bottom of the 1st and shut them down in the next 3 innings as well. Balls finally got their first run across the plate in the bottom of the 5th after Ballsagna had already scored again in the top of the 5th. The top of the 6th is when Ballsagna really took off, they scored 4 and held off Dolls in the bottom of the 6th. Jared Sumpter put the final nail in the coffin with a cartwheel across the plate for the last score of the game. Ballsagna Wins 9-1.

Cuernavaca Park Field 3 (11am)

Hose Draggers (Tennessee Orange) VS. Booze on First (Cardinal Red):

Enrico Leone from Booze on his first kick and the first kick of the game boomed a huge Home Run to make a statement. In the bottom of the 1st Hose responded right away with a Home Run from Dewayne Keaton with 2 on base. Hose held off Booze for the next couple innings and Jim Hullett had himself a nice Home Run in the bottom of the 3rd for Hose. Hose was up 7-3 going into the 6th and stopped Booze in the top and got 2 more across in the bottom. Going into the 7th Booze needed 6 to tie and 7 to win in the top of the 7th but Hose had other ideas and only let them score 1. Hose Draggers Wins 9-4.

Cuernavaca Park Field 4 (11am)

Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Navy) VS. Ballin (Purple):

Fresh held off Ballin in the top of the first and came thru in the bottom with 4 across the plate to take the lead. It was the same story for the 2nd inning and in the bottom of the 3rd Ballin was able to hold Fresh to just 1 run. In the 4th Fresh Kicks had triple from Northglen Gray and brought in to runs. Unfortunately for Ballin they just couldn’t keep up but they were certainly having fun. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air Wins 12-0.

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (12pm)

Roshambo (Lime) VS. Pink Pussycats (Neon Pink):

Roshambo came out swinging in this game and scored 5 right away in the bottom of the 1st after hold Pink scoreless in the top. Casey Rieter for Roshambo had some amazing throwing going on in this game for outs. Colin Barry showed off his defensive skills with 3 great catches in outfield including one with a summersault for Pink. Pink was just out gunned today and couldn’t pull it together. Roshambo Wins 15-0.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (12pm)

Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Navy) VS. Ballsagna (Neon Orange):

This game started off hot and then turned up the defense midway through. Ballsagna got 2 across the plate in the top of the 1st and Fresh scored one of their own in the bottom. Parker Leafblad from Fresh started the defesnive highlights with an over the shoulder catch in left field. Nathan Trujillo for Fresh was on third and kicked a ground ball that came his way to first for an out. Needless to say the scoring was not happening with these kind of plays and it wasn’t until the top of the 7th that any team scored again. Ballsagna Wins 4-1.

Cuernavaca Park Field 3 (12pm)

Ballin (Purple) VS. Booze on First (Cardinal Red):

For our final game we had a lot of fun and some serious drinking. No one scored in the 1st  and in the 2nd Booze took off and didn’t look back. They put up 6 runs in the 2nd after Hoss Tabrizi from Booze had a nice double play from pitch to first base in the top of the inning. Dorian Wilson was one of those 6 runs in the 2nd but he stood out with a HR by himself. The scoring continued for Booze and Dave Stockland helped with RBI double in the bottom of the 5th. Ballin just couldn’t keep up with Booze and the game ran away from them. Booze on First Wins 21-0.

Colorado Springs - Week 4 - Highlights

Bazinga (red) vs. Brews on First (navy):

Vegas has these two teams as the odds favorites to play in this season’s PPC championship. If this was a preview of the title game, then it sure won’t disappoint. However, Bazinga played this one missing several key players from their potent attack, and it showed both on the offensive and defensive sides. Without the dominant pitching of former 5280 MVP Matt Howes, Brews on First put a massive onslaught on the Bazinga defense in the top of the 2nd, as all 11 players would come up to the plate, scoring 5 huge runs to take a 7-1 lead early. Bazinga showed some signs of life in the bottom of the 4th when Todd Brewer would slam a rocket all the way to the far fence in right field, scoring Keith Hausam and Megan Ledezma Vera. Tim Menditto was next up and said, “anything you can do, I can do better” knocking out a solo shot of his own, rounding the bases in a record 9.83 seconds, and making it a 1-run game in favor of Brews on First. The early vote leader for Colorado Springs GKB MVP, Brayden Quarry, would put the nail in the coffin in the final inning with a 2-run triple leaving him just a home run short of kicking for the cycle.  Final Score: Brews on First 10, Bazinga 7

Booze on First (indigo blue) vs. Hashtag Balls (forest green):

Booze on First attacked early and often in this one, getting 2 quick runs in the 1st inning by simply playing small ball. Marc O’Meara and Greg Rossi led off the game with two singles, followed by some long fly-out kicks to the outfield which allowed them to tag-up and score. In the 3rd inning, Booze would bring up 10 kickers to the plate, scoring 6 by getting a series of 7 straight kickers safely on base with singles. Hashtag Balls would do their best to keep up despite playing with half of their team injured/MIA. But with Matthew Conrad on the mound for Booze on First, he kept Hashtag from getting anyone past second base (until the 5th inning) with some nasty pitching. Hashtag would get a rally going in the final inning with a lead-off triple by Shallow Hal (Lawrence Halby) followed by an RBI double by Professor (Adam Clark), but it was too little too late to overcome their deficit.  Final Score: Booze on First 10, Hashtag Balls 3

Our Captain Swallowed a Kickball (black) vs. Kickelob Ultra (royal blue):
Final Score: Our Captain Swallowed a Kickball wins by forfeit

Head sHot (cardinal red) vs. Willy Wonkas Everlasting Balls (carolina blue):

Head sHot caught WWEB’s defense off guard in the top of the 1st, when Christian and Liz Watts led off with singles, followed by an RBI single by Baylor Finch. Head sHot would put up a 4-spot after getting 8 kickers up to the plate. Baylor Finch was channeling his inner Jake Arietta, retiring the first five kickers for WWEB, but Jasmine Wells broke up the no hitter in the 2nd. Head sHot would go quiet until the 6th inning when Baylor Finch would again get on base, but got thrown out at 3rd after an amazing no-look-behind-the-head pass from WWEB’s pitcher, Dominic Rossi. WWEB got the tying runner on base in the bottom of the 7th, but Baylor Finch did his best Kenley Jansen impersonation and got Dominic Rossi to foul-out for the final out of the game. Final Score: Head sHot 4, Willy Wonkas Everlasting Balls 2

Bundt Cakes (tropical blue) vs. Balls to the wall (purple):

This matchup seemed as if it would be a defensive battle after the first several innings. In the top of the 5th, Bundt Cakes got a rally together after a leadoff triple by Sean Zipprich. After two more singles to bring home a run, Blaine Brown got down a perfect “bundt” giving Bundt Cakes a 4-0 lead. Baserunning errors would kill Balls to the wall’s chances for any runs, as several runners were caught not tagging up. Bundt Cakes padded their lead in the 6th when the first 6 kickers would safely reach base with a slew of singles and a 3-run homer by none other than Sean Zipprich, earning him MVP for the night and a Gatorade ice bath after the game.  Final Score: Bundt Cakes 9, Balls to the wall 0

Denver - Wednesday Highlights - Week 3

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (6pm)

Punani Patrol (Neon Pink) VS. Step Parents (Royal Blue):

For our first game of the night, we had an evenly matched - balls to the walls game!  Punani started it off in the top of the first with 2 RBI’s from Andrew Rohr to get the early lead.  In the bottom of the first, Step answered with 2 of their own to tie up the game, however Punani came right back in the top of the second and scored another 2 runs to take the lead!  In the bottom of the second Step couldn’t counter due to the great pitching from Jeff Cornetet (DON’T FORGET!), with a perfect 3 up 3 down.  Punani scored another in the top of the 3rd and held Step scoreless in the bottom half – Punani led 5-2.  Both teams had perfect defense for the next couple of innings and it wasn’t until the bottom of the 5th when Step broke the silence and scored their 3rd run of the game cutting the deficit to 2-runs.  Step held Punani again in the top of the 6th and scored another run in the bottom of the 6th to make it a 1-run ball game!  You could feel the crowd tensing up and the players were getting serious as everyone was communicating on the field!  In the 7th inning, each team scored, Step 2 and Punani 1, so we had a tie ballgame and went into overtime!  Step held off Punani in the top of the 8th and then, with 2 outs, in the bottom of the 8th, Step had runners in scoring position, and a perfectly placed ball created the final score of the game and the come-from-behind VICTORY!   Step Parents Wins 7-6.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (6pm)

Dice (Purple) VS. Put It In The Bunt (Neon Orange):

The second game of the night was a lot of fun and we saw some great plays on the field.  Dice started the game scoring in the top of the 1st with one run, have we ever mentioned, he who scoreth 1st, usually wins in kickball…it’s over 70% of the time!  Brett Stanilka, formally known as “The Stash,” had a little more pep in his step and a little more pride in his stride on this evening…we credit this excitement due to his brand new ball he was playing with!  Brett recorded 3 strikeouts in this game and we interviewed him after the game.  “I’ve always been a great pitcher, but with this new ball, watch out.”  This was re-tweeted across the nation and he is now trending…kickers beware!!  In the top of the 4th DJ Dan Linn had a 2 RBI double to increase their lead of the game.  PIITB scored their first in the bottom of the 4th with a RBI single from Kiki Fornito (sp). Dice answered back with a 2 RBI triple from Graham Palmer in the top of the 5th and we’ve got another trending topic…is Graham Palmer placing the ball better than any one in the league these days????  Unfortunately, PIITB wasn’t able to keep up with Dice, however we did get a note from the referee that it was his fault.  Dice Wins 12-3.

Cuernavaca Park Field 3 (6pm)

Cause We Ball So Hard (Black) VS. Pitches Be Cray (Ash Grey):

Our third game of the night was a high flying, high scoring, bring back Bonanza, extravaganza! Both teams started out with runs in the 1st, Cray put up 1 and Ball So Hard answered with 6.  Ball So Hard held Cray for the next couple of innings however Ball So Hard went on fire as they put up 8 runs over the next 2 innings….now that is Balling Hard!!  The 4th was a different story, as Cray rallied a comeback scoring another 3 in the top of the inning and Ball So Hard only scored 1…only 1 Ball So Hard??? Coming into the 7th Cray was down 16 to 4 and needed to make up some ground.  They put up a valiant effort but came up short…just needed a few more innings…come on’ GO Kickball!  Cause We Ball So Hard Wins 16-6.

Fort Collins - Week 3 - Highlights

City Park Field 1 (5:50pm)

Kicks From the Bong (Forest Green) vs. Ballz N Dollz (Tropical Blue):

Despite a huge obstruction in the middle of the playing field and a huge distraction with it being 4/20, Kicks From the Bong was still able to put up five runs in the top of the 1st inning to take a commanding lead. Matt “The Slider” Dubitzky led the charge with some impressive base running. Balls N Dollz never gave up though! “John “The Electric Slide” Manzio from Balls N Dollz displayed his groovy dancing skills while trying to avoid a tag at third base in the bottom of the 4th. (He was still out though…) Finally, Lacey “Not Named Mark” Hamel’s stand up double and easy score in the top of the 7th sealed the deal for Kicks From the Bong. Congrats on your 4/20 win! Kicks From the Bong wins 10-4.

City Park Field 2 (5:50pm)

Girls Love Big Kicks (Cardinal Red) vs. High Socks High Motivation (Gold):

This game was a back and forth battle from the beginning with both teams capturing the lead in the first inning alone. This was backed up with some great defense!!! Amy “Get ‘em Out” Marshall from High Socks High Motivatiokn made a great catch in the outfield to stifle a bases loaded push by Girls Love Big Kicks. However, Paul Wowk and Julia Sickels responded with their own defensive plays to give Girls Love Big Kicks a shot at the win. But in the end, captain Kelsey Johnson and her high socks gave her team the high motivation they needed to score two 7th inning runs to get the W!!! On a side note, a shout out for sportsmanship to both squads, as they were honest and helped the ref out on some tough calls! High Socks High Motivation wins 4-3.

City Park Field 3 (5:50pm)

High Rollers (White) vs. Balls Deep (Irish Green):

Woah, can you say pitching and defense?!?! Pitchers James Harsig (Balls Deep) and Matt “Opposite of Night” Dea took it old school with their pitching gems, each only allowing one run! Stefanie “clutch” Harris was making golden glove catches out there and turning double plays like nobody’s business with Michelle “the grass bullet”  Wintz to help out her team! On the other side, Nate Sherman made one spectacular diving catch in the top of the 7th to keep his team alive! Despite this game going to 10 innings, neither side could break through the one of a kind pitching display! High Rollers tie Balls Deep 1-1.

City Park Field 4 (5:50pm)

Madwire (Tennessee Orange) vs. Fortlandia Fartknockers (Heliconia)

Fortlandia Fartknockers take pride in getting runs on the board early as they displayed this skill once again in a close matchup with Madwire. Captain SJ Meyer spoke highly of the team’s efforts saying “we love getting a lead early and letting our defense take care of the rest.” And that is exactly what they did. Madwire didn’t give up easily, however, making a late push to try to get the game tied up but in the end the Fartknockers held on. Fortlandia Fartknockers win 4-3.

City Park Field 5 (5:50pm)

The Edukators (Neon Pink) vs. New Kicks on the Block (Texas Orange):

Is that Nolan Ryan? No, it’s New Kicks’ pitcher Matt Kelly pitching a shutout to continue the trend of great pitching this week! Pitchers aren’t typically known for what they do at the plate (See here) but Kelly proved everyone wrong by blasting a homerun to lead off the 6th inning to earn him the title of game MVP!!! New Kicks on the Block win 7-0.

City Park Field 6 (5:50pm)

Lunchbox Violators (Carolina Blue) vs. Ace Strong (Indigo Blue):

Do you believe three is a magic number? The Lunchbox Violators sure believe in this because they only prefer to have their score be a multiple of three. After scoring three in the first inning, they countered with six in the second inning, and then scored three more in the later innings bringing their run total to 12!!! You can’t make this stuff up! Captain Corey Bernhardt took it back to the School House Rock days with this jam after the game (See here). We will see if this superstition continues to work magic for them in the future! Lunchbox Violators win 12-1.

City Park Field 1 (6:50pm)

Kicktease (Charcoal) vs. Oilers SLTI (Red):

Perennial kickball all-star Adam Eccher came to play tonight!!! He was like white on rice in terms of defense for Kicktease, making plays as pitcher, chasing down runners, throwing lasers to first base, and more! However, the real highlight of the night came when Sam Larue from the Oilers SLTI gave up his body to make a play in the field as he ran through the field 1 obstruction. Who cares about orange caution guard tape??? In the end though, as spectator Ernest Hemingway stated, “Their spirits were true. Their hearts pure. But the Oilers SLTI were better.” Oilers SLTI wins 8-1.

City Park Field 2 (6:50pm)

Multiple Scoregasms (Royal Blue) vs. Girls Love Big Kicks (Cardinal Red):

After a tough loss in the 5:50 game, Girls Love Big Kicks looked to bounce back in part two of their doubleheader. And boy, did they bounce high in the bottom of the 1st inning as Derek Arrington completed a bases clearing triple before scoring himself on the next play. Arrington’s foot is so mighty that he even popped a ball just by kicking it later in the bottom of the 5th! However, the real MVP for Girls Love Big Kicks had to be Katy Forte who not only completed a double play in the top of the 4th inning, but also scored on some stellar baserunning in the bottom of the 4th. The real reason for Multiple Scoregasms loss though…? Bad karma for hitting the ref in the face on a misfired kick. Girls Love Big Kicks wins 8-3.

City Park Field 3 (6:50pm)

Just Kickin It (Sport Grey) vs. Florida Mike & the Free Ballers (Neon Orange):

Florida Mike (no word on where he is from yet) had his Freeballers fired up for this game and boy did they show up on both offense and defense! Eric “King of Corn” Brown made a stunning diving catch in the outfield gap to get things rolling for the Freeballers. But Just Kickin It’s catcher was a human highlight reel on the field this week!!! He started his own top ten in the top of the 5th when he got a runner out on a bunt. The difference though is he used his feet to field and peg the runner instead of his hands… No one could believe it!!! Lastly, we all know the one-named legends of this world: Cher, Madonna, Prince (May he rest in peace). But do you know Ax? Because if you don’t, you need to. Ax pulled out a move that could only occur in The Matrix when he slid and dodged a fiery throw from the pitcher and scored at home (Check it out here)!!! Florida Mike & the Freeballers win 8-2.

City Park Field 4 (6:50pm)

Where My Pitches At (Lime) vs. Team America (Navy):

In a battle of the top dogs, there can only be one winner! And the top dog of the top dogs this time around had to be Tony “Alpha Male” Martin from Team America… Martin had a two run RBI in the bottom of the 4th inning, an jaw-dropping throw to first base for an out in the top of the 5th inning, and a diving snag as catcher in the top of the 6th for the third out. When asked about his performance after the game, Martin said “All I care about is the team. I don’t give a rat’s ass about individual acknowledgments. Horsetooth Cup or nothing this season!!!” Team America wins 6-0.

City Park Field 5 (6:50pm)

Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Neon Yellow) vs. Kick Pitches Get Money (Sapphire Blue):

The Little Lebowski Urban Achievers pulled out all the stops tonight! They had multiple double plays on defense, several home runs on offense… They were really clicking on all cylinders! Captain Chad Cheshire explained after the game, “Sometimes the stars align and you pitch that perfect game or you bat .1000…. Tonight we did all that and more.” Cheshire did give a shout out to Kick Pitches Get Money, especially Karen Ross-Massler, for their continued defensive efforts and all-around sportsmanship. Now that is what kickball is all about! Little Lebowski Urban Achievers wins 29-0.

City Park Field 6 (6:50pm)

Lewis for Mayor (Dark Heather) vs. Saved By The Balls (Purple):

If it wasn’t for that one bad inning… Lewis for Mayor jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the bottom of the 1st inning, but then Saved by the Balls stormed back to score 11 runs in the top of the 3rd inning, which was headlined by Zack Koch’s home run. Yikes!!! Lewis for Mayor gave it their all though as they added on a few extra runs to make a game of it, but as the saying goes, it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the bushel (or something like that)… Saved by the Balls wins 13-8.
