Kick Pitches Get Money (Sapphire Gold) vs. Madwire (Tennessee
Orange): The season got off to a
rocky start for Kick Pitches Get Money when they gave up a bases clearing home
run to Joel Vandertop, Captain of Madwire, in the top of the 1st
inning. After the dust had settled, Madwire found themselves up 6-0 going into
the top of the 2nd. Kick Pitches Get Money was able to hold back the
flood gates for a couple inning with some impressive catches in the
outfield—they even mustered a lead off home run in the top of the 4th
inning!!! However, Madwire just couldn’t be contained as they added another
seven runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Vandertop said after the
game, “If we can keep up this offensive fire power, game after game, there is
no stopping us!!!” Madwire wins 19-3.

New Kicks on the Block (Texas Orange) vs. high rollers
(White): This matchup was a pitching duel with some
phenomenal defense featuring two teams looking to return to their winning ways
of last year. Matt Day put on his gold glove for this game, turning what looked
like a base hit into a double play and making a diving catch on a precisely
placed bunt. In a tie ballgame, New Kicks on the Block responded with a
defensive prowess of their own in the bottom of the 4th. A base hit
to left field was fielded and thrown into third basemen Derek Parker. As the
runner was headed for home, Parker made a miraculous throw hitting the runner
in the leg to get the final out of the inning. This was a pivotal moment for
New Kicks, as they went on to take the lead in the top of the 7th
and hold on for the W!!! Rachel said after the game, “Hitting your cutoff man
is huge, I got it to Derek and he made a great play. You have to have plays
like that to win games.” New Kicks on the Block wins 2-1.

Oilers SLTI (Red) vs. High
Socks High Motivation (Gold): In a
matchup of newbies versus oldies, who would win??? Well right off the bat (or
foot in this instance), the oldies on the Oilers SLTI jumped out to a 6-0 after
the first inning. It quickly became obvious that the newbies on High Socks High
Motivation had some key kickball techniques to brush up on. Sometimes it’s just
the little things—like when Amanda “All About the Socks” Keating started her slide
into first base too early, or when Stephen “All About the Motivation” Poquette
got hit by a kick for an out. On the other hand Paul “All About the Base”
Schwarz, captain of the Oilers SLTI and former league MVP, didn’t show any rust
has he contributed two home runs in this contest. Sometimes the oldies are just
better… But watch out, because one day those newbies won’t be so new anymore! Oilers SLTI wins 14-1.

Where My Pitches At (Lime) vs. Ballz N Dollz (Tropical
Blue): Ballz N Dollz got on the
board quickly in this one as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first
inning. Alas, they would only score one other run the rest of the game… But
would it be enough?!?! It was close until the top of the 4th inning
when Where My Pitches At waited for the perfect pitch to hit a grand slam!!! See the highlight here. What excellent
patience in the batter’s box… All it takes is a couple plays sometimes to
decide a winner. Where My Pitches At
wins 10-3.

(5:50pm)
Lewis for Mayor (Dark Heather) vs. Girls
Love Big Kicks (Cardinal Red): There
were tons of highlights in this one! Unfortunately, they were mostly for just
one team… Girls Love Big Kicks started the game off strong with an inning
ending double play in the top of the 1st inning and lead off home
run by Captain Brady Andersen in the bottom of the 1st. Lewis for
Mayor never gave up though, especially Molly McLaughin in the outfield, who
consistently made solid catches for outs. Kickball enthusiast Kanye West said
after the game, “If I were a betting man, which I am not, I mean betting is
dumb… But if I were, I would put my money on Girls Love Big Kicks to win it
all.” West then abruptly left to go write a song inspired by his previous
statement. Girls Love Big Kicks wins
11-0.

(5:50pm)
The Edukators (Neon Pink) vs. Balls Deep
(Irish Green): Balls Deep didn’t
waste any time living up to its namesake by hitting two homers in the first two
winnings, which gave them a commanding 7-0 lead going into the 3rd.
Just like every movie about a teacher/coach ever though (e.g. Dangerous Minds,
Mr. Holland’s Opus, Remember the Titans, McFarland), the Edukators never gave
up! In particular, Cary Klataskee’s defensive plays and three runs in the
bottom of the 5th inning gave the Edukators a fighting chance… But I
guess they will have to settle for an A for Effort this time around as Blaine
Mathisen’s MVP performance for Balls Deep was too much to overcome. Balls Deep wins 8-3.
City Park
Field 1 (6:50pm)
Team America (Navy) vs. Multiple
Scoregasms (Royal Blue): Runs, Runs,
Runs! Team America was relentless at the plate and impressive in the field.
Game MVP Cody Wells, led the charge for Team America blasting not one, but two
grand slams giving the team three total grand slams on the day!!! (See the highlight here). Meanwhile, Nate
Ensley, captain of the Scoregasms, showed some true hustle out in the field by
saving a bouncing ball from making its way onto the always dangerous Mulberry
Street. Team America Wins 23-0.
City Park Field 2
(6:50pm)
Ace Strong (Indigo Blue) vs. Just Kickin
It (Sport Grey):
Just Kickin It was scoring early and often in their first matchup of
the season. Sporting the sport grey, Joe “Big Kick” Bohm broke open the scoring
with a two run homerun in the top of the 3rd and there was no
looking back from there. Bohm stated after the game, “We were consistent in
putting up runs every inning and that’s what you have to do to win in this
league.” Just Kickin It wins 6-1.
City Park Field 3
(6:50pm)
Save By The Balls (Purple) vs. Kicks
From The Bong (Forest Green): Kicks
from the Bong got off to a hot start by scoring three in the top of the 1st
inning. After Abe Rodarmal sacrificed his body for the team by laying out for a
line drive and adding another run in the top of the 3rd, Kicks from
the Bong looked to be on their way to a victory. But Captain Jonathon Beening
and Saved by the Balls had other plans. After falling behind 4-0, Saved by the
Balls stormed back with a six run 3rd inning and were able to hold
on for the victory!!! Saved by the Balls
wins 6-4.
City Park Field 4
(6:50pm)
Where My Pitches At (Lime) vs. Kicktease
(Charcoal): After Kicktease jumped
out to an early 3-0 lead, there was not much excitement on the scoreboard until
late. Greg Kern helped preserve a middle inning lead by making one spectacular
catch in the outfield that ended what seemed like a potentially promising 5th
inning for Where My Pitches At. It wasn’t until the top of the 6th
and final inning when Where My Pitches At struck gold, rallying for 5 late runs
to give them the lead. Cory Palencia topped it off in the bottom of the 6th
by making a game ending diving catch. This game ended on an early note due to
time and light restrictions. Where My
Pitches At win 6-3.
City Park Field 5
(6:50pm)
Fortlandia Fartknockers (Heliconia) vs.
Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Neon Yellow): Our defending GO Kickball champs were back in action
this week and they have not lost a step. A three run 1st inning
helped the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers jump out to an early lead, although
a fast acting double play by the Fartknockers thwarted the possibility of more
runs. Sean Blair, who homered and was granted MVP, commented on how nice this
first win was for them. “Of course after winning the championship, there is a
lot of pressure to secure that first victory and get your season heading on the
right track. We were happy to come out and get our first win this week.” We can
expect more wins from the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers this year, and maybe
even another run at the title. Little
Lebowski Urban Achievers win 6-0.
City Park Field 6
(6:50pm)
Florida
Mike and the Freeballers (Neon Orange) vs. Lunchbox Violators (Carolina Blue): The Lunchbox Violators were all about smallball and
making sure they got a run in each inning. The Lunchbox Violators, led by Mr.
Reliable (Corey Bernhardt), violated the scoreboard by scoring in 5 of the 6
innings they kicked in. Florida Mike and the Freeballers made a late push in
the top of the 7th by kicking two homeruns but Lunchbox Violators’
pitcher Eli Roth finished strong by retiring the side. Lunchbox Violators win 6-3.
