Booze on First (Indigo Blue) vs. Bazinga (Red):
Bazinga was looking to get a hot start again this season after their
devastating loss in last season’s PPC championship game. And hot they were, as
the snow and freezing temps couldn’t even ice their legs on this blustery
spring night. Bazinga got their usual first inning lead on the unsuspecting
defense of Booze on First when Todd Brewer kicked a rocket to the outfield with
the bases loaded. But Todd got greedy and as he rounded 3rd he was called out
at home thanks to heads-up defense by Booze on First. In the 3rd inning, Booze
on First got Alexis Mullis to 3rd base, but struggled to bring her home against
a stingy Bazinga defense. Thanks to multiple hits by the top of their lineup (Nate
Kischer, Matt Howes, and Shane Jahnke), Bazinga was able to rack up the runs
and hold onto their lead for the win.
Final Score: Bazinga: 8, Booze
on First: 0
Hashtag Balls (Forrest Green) vs. Head sHot (Cardinal Red):
Head sHot came out swinging in this
battle of two longstanding heavyweights, but Hashtag Balls was able to hold off
the initial surge. In the bottom of the first, Hashtag Balls jumped out to a
3-0 lead thanks to a leadoff double by Kmart (Katie Martin) followed by an RBI
single by Pope (Joey McElvy). Ishy (Ishan Ajmani) kept the rally alive by
booting a double and bringing home Pope. Head sHot was playing smart defense
though and was able to pick off Ishy at 2nd after he came off the bag, ending
the hot start by Hashtag Balls. Head sHot made a nice run in the 5th to take
the lead, but Hashtag Balls wouldn’t go down without a fight. In the bottom
half of the last inning trailing 5-4, Professor (Adam Clark) walked with the
bases loaded to tie the game. The hero of the night was Holla Holla (Scott
Holewinski), who blasted a game winning frozen rope to center field for the
walk-off win. Holla!
Final Score:
Hashtag Balls 6, Head Shot 5
Willy Wonkas Everlasting Balls (Carolina Blue) vs. Brews on First (Navy):
Brews on First must have been taking notes on the earlier games, as
they also pulled ahead early in this one. After a pair of runners were thrown
out at third base, Sam Schultz came up and unleashed a two-run double to get
Brews on First on the board. WWEB responded in the 3rd inning with a single by
Katie Rudesheim to bring home Dominic Rossi for a run. Brews on First quickly
ramped up their offense, scoring multiple runs in the 5th and 6th innings
thanks to a huge double by Brayden Quarry and a home run by Sam Schultz earning
him MVP for the night. Kristin Porter also had a busy night with three singles,
and Brayden Quarry made the defensive play of the night with a diving catch in
left field preventing what easily could have been additional scores by WWEB.
Final Score: Brews on First: 9,
Willy Wonkas Everlasting Balls: 1
Kickelob Ultra (Royal Blue) vs. Bundt Cakes (Tropical Blue):
Bundt Cakes came out as rookies to
GKB looking to show the rest of the league that they are true contenders this
season. Jeff Gratzmiller and Emily Kennedy started things off for Bundt Cakes
in the first inning with back to back singles. Kyle Pierson knocked them home with
a big double to take a 2-0 lead. Brent Quon added to the Bundt Cakes lead in
the 2nd with a RBI double. In the 3rd inning, Kickelob Ultra started to play
the small ball strategy and got on the board. James Stuart and Chelsea Mitchell
got on base with back to back singles, and Tucker Dezelan hit a gap shot to
bring in James. Bundt Cakes would continue to pound and get runners on base,
eventually getting two more runs in. Even though Kickelob Ultra made an
offensive charge in the last two innings, Bundt Cakes was able to hold on
thanks to solid pitching and gutsy defense.
Final Score: Bundt Cakes 5, Kickelob Ultra 4
