Well ladies and gentleman, we are sad to see this season go. While we're going to miss all of you, every sport has their off season, and GO Kickball is no exception. Enjoy the time off, rest up for spring season, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year! (And look at it this way- you'll all be 6 months older and [hopefully] 6 months wiser right??)
Good luck to the teams going for gold at the 5280 CUP!
Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (10:00AM)
Banzai Lightning (Electric Yellow) vs. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Green): Both teams were down some key players, but Banzai had an advantage with coming off a pretty strong season. Banzai's Patrick Dahnert put up the first points with an electrifying 2-run RBI triple. Eventually, he was brought in to score their 3rd and final run of the first inning. Fresh Kicks came right back at them in the bottom of the inning, but could only answer with 1 and had to turn on the "D' to keep this game close. Brad Calloway really showed them how it's done and shut down Banzai in the second with a double play, rocketing the ball from right field to home, which closed out the inning and left Banzai scoreless. After Fresh Kicks was held scoreless themselves in the bottom of the second, then watching Banzai bring 3 across the plate in the top of the 3rd, Fresh Kicks felt the burn to get something going offensively. Guess who stepped up to the plate, literally - yep, good ol' Brad Calloway! He slammed a boot for an RBI to give Fresh Kicks their 2nd point of the game, yet the third still ended with Banzai in the lead, 6-2. The fourth inning was a snooze-fest for both teams, and going into the fifth, it was up to either Banzai to pull away, or Fresh Kicks to catch up...it was still to soon to tell... but we know you just can't handle the suspense, so we'll just let it out - Banzai! Banzai! Banzai! That's right, they brought in 3 in the top off the fifth to bring it to a 7 run lead (9-2) in the top of the inning, then held Fresh Kicks to a shut out in the bottom with the help Patrick Dahnert's nice double play from pitcher to first. Heading into the sixth, Fresh Kicks knew it was now or never. But after Chris Crary smashed the hammer down to hit a huge 3-run HR, Fresh Kicks was only able to respond with 1 run.The final nail in the coffin came from Neils Neilson, perfectly placing a beautiful 3-run HR to the middle of center field for Banzai. Instead of yelling "going, going, gone", it was "running, running, score!", thus sealing Fresh Kick's fate and declaring Banzai Lightning the winners. Banzai Lightning wins, 17-6.
Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (10:00AM)
Hose Draggers (Red) vs. Ballsagna (Light Blue): This game tested one of our strongest teams of the year Hose Draggers, against one of our funnest teams, Ballsagna, so we were obviously expecting quite an entertaining finale. Ballsagna started off with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first with the help of Matt Peterson, after shutting out Hose Draggers in the top of the inning. Going into the second, Ballsagna was up two and Hose Draggers needed to get on the board quick to stay in the game, but Ballsagna was here to make a statement: They were going to be a force to be reckoned with in the 5280 Cup.Then, in the bottom of the inning, Caitlin Siwanowicz had herself an intelligent 2-run RBI, bringing the Ballsagna lead up to 4-0. Hose Draggers just seemed a little off today and could not get anything going, not to mention the ref was "SICK" and was making some "BAD" calls. Hose Draggers was better than this, and they knew it, but they never really hit their offense stride. They finally hit their defensive stride in the bottom of the sixth when down 6-0 with an impressive 3-up 3-down to stop the bleeding, somewhat. After that, the scoring came to a halt and really, the statement had been made. Ballsagna was ready for the "BIG SHOW"- see you in the CUP! Ballsagna wins, 6-0.
Cuernavaca Park Field 3 (10:00AM)
Gone Rogue (Blue) vs. Punani Patrol/Step Parents (whatever shirt was clean): In the true spirit of"Sunday Funday", this match-up was just simply a drunken fun game that really didn't matter at all! Thanks, Punani Patrol/Step Parents, who were just a whole bunch of random players collaborating to put the hurt on someone in the league, and guess who they narrowed in on? Mike "Dad Pants" Atkinson from Gone Rogue! Well, this was a great game to end the season, full of fun and shenanigans. Some may say the final score was Punani Patrol/Step Parents wins, 6-5, but the true score may never be known. We shall mark it in the record books as the "game that will live on forever in our hearts." Win or Lose, We Still Booze.
