Fort Collins - Week 6 - Highlights

Greenbriar Park Field 1 (5:45pm)

Flint Tropics (Tennessee Orange) vs. Florida Mike and the Free Ballers (Purple):
This game could easily have been mistaken for the Major League Home Run Derby! Captain Matt “Kickass” Kelly from the Flint Tropics kicked off the slugfest with a three run homer in the top of the 1st inning, and then Paul “Give Me More” Moberg followed with a two run home run in the same inning! Then it was time for the defense to step up, with Kelly’s foot assisting catcher Austin “Coffee Black” Cole on a diving pop up in the in the bottom of the 2nd. Florida Mike and the Free Ballers were scoreless through five innings, until finally Jordan “Wishy-Washy” Wiswell’s triple got them on the scoreboard, and the crowd went crazy! Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to overcome MVP Matt Kelly’s nine RBIs—yowza!!! Flint Tropics win 16-2.

Greenbriar Park Field 2 (5:45pm)

Where My Pitches At (Sport Grey) vs. American Made (Carolina Blue): American Made jumped out early, per usual, with three runs scored  in the 1st inning and three runs in the 3rd to take a 6-0 lead. Then it was Where My Pitches At turn to try for a come back—Alan Blue set the tone as his team’s starting pitcher, and got a foul out in the 3rd inning to help stop the bleeding. Next up was perennial team-MVP Spencer Hellwig for Where My Pitches At, who kicked a leadoff home run in the top of the 4th to get his team on the scoreboard. Sadly though, Hellwig would have to leave the game in the 6th inning after spraining his ankle while speeding into third base. So Blue tried once again to pick up the slack for his team, and he was able to punch through a two-run homer of his own in the top of the 7th to make things interesting… Blue commented after the game, “For some reason, we really like to make things hard on ourselves by waiting until the end of the game to score. We should just pretend like the start of the game is the 7th inning, and we would be good to go.” American Made wins 6-4.

Greenbriar Park Field 3 (5:45pm)

Oilers (Tropical Blue) vs. Ballsagna Face (Neon Pink):
This was a relatively close game thanks to Ballasgna Face MVP Rachel Bunn. With her great plays at shortstop and quick speed around the bases, she was able to keep her team in this until the late innings. Unfortunately, it was not enough for Capitan Garrett Dean and the Oilers who came back in the 5th inning, putting them up 6-3. Then all they had to do was hold on for victory…  Oilers win 6-3.

Greenbriar Park Field 1 (6:45pm)

Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Royal Blue) vs. New Kicks on the Block (Heliconia):
This game was all about MVP Darren Ashton from Little Lebowski Urban Achievers—he started off the game with a long run to catch a deep fly ball in the top of the 3rd, and then proceeded to kick a two run homer in the bottom of the 6th inning. Neal Luther from New Kicks on the Block had a nice, long home run of his own in the top of the 4th, but Ashton and his 37 defensive outs (approximately) were too much to overcome. See his highlights from the game here.  Little Lebowski Urban Achievers wins 10-3.

Greenbriar Park Field 2 (6:45pm)

Kickin’ Grass and Takin’ Names (Cardinal Red) vs. Ballz n Dollz (Neon Yellow):
Kickin’ Grass and Takin’ Names pounced like a hungry cat in the first two innings, scoring four runs in the first 1st inning and three runs in the 2nd! A solo home run by Bryan “Grand Slam” Salimbeni was the cherry on top to finish off the onslaught… Ballz n Dollz never gave up though, and they would crank up the defense to 11 for the rest of the game! James “Go-Go” Gonzalez led the way with a spinning catch in center field for the third out in the bottom of the 4th. Then Dustin Clay would follow up with a diving catch at shortstop for Ballz n Dollz in the bottom of the 6th. However, you need offense AND defense to win the game. Kickin’ Grass and Takin’ Names wins 7-0.

Fort Collins - Week 5 - Highlights

Greenbriar Park Field 1 (5:45pm)

Ballz N Dollz (Neon Yellow) vs. Ballsagna Face (Neon Pink):
Talk about a game! Starting right off with a great heads up play from Jeremy “Papa Smurf” Glanzer, tagging the runner out after a tricky bunt for the 3rd out in the first. Keeping a close game into the 3rd, Isaac Wallis tries to make a routine play a little harder by catching a fly ball on his face for a big out in the 3rd! Get a mask for that guy! Lastly, you know Ballsagna Face wouldn’t go down without a fight, first basemen Shaun Healy with the great double play all on his own scoring it an unassisted double play at first base. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough for the Smurfs that is Ballz N Dollz…Ballz N Dollz win 5-2.

Greenbriar Park Field 2 (5:45pm)

Oilers (Tropical Blue) vs. New Kicks on the Block (Heliconia):
This game was spectacular! Too many highlights to go into but here we go: Top of 3 Captain Ashley Hilderbrand makes the daring catch running and colliding with another player. Bottom of 4, Dana risking it all with a great rolling and diving catch to save a couple runs in left field! With a close tight match going late in the game Dave Smith of the Oilers makes sure to see the ball in his hands with a great catch making sure not to trap in the bottom of the 5th. Best play of the game has to go to Paul Baldwin with New Kicks on the Block getting up to catch a hard line drive to end the game in the 7th inning. Oilers win 11-5.

Greenbriar Park Field 1 (6:45pm)

Flint Tropics (Tennessee Orange) vs. American Made (Carolina Blue):
Veteran Matt Kelly may be competing for league MVP if there were such thing. Knowing you can foul out he smartly waited on touching a ball as it was rolling out of fair territory for a foul out and a K in the books. Later on Bryan Pekara steals a base hit from Tropics by making an over the shoulder grab saving 2 runs from coming in. Pitcher and captain Big Ben Burnham takes care of things himself and makes a double play all himself catching the line drive and tagging the previous runner for a top ten worthy play. Unfortunately it was not enough for Matt Kelly’s big foot late in the game with a huge line drive boot to deep outfield for an easy home run. Flint Tropics win 5-0

Greenbriar Park Field 2 (6:45pm)

Kickin Grass & Takin Names (Cardinal Red) vs. Little Lebowski Urban Acheivers (Royal Blue):
Another one for the books, this one was - as Yoda would say! Starting off the in bottom of the 3rd, Aaron Novacek fields a bunt and just barely clipping the runners hand before making it to first base, good heads up play! Both teams going back and forth with a pitchers duel in the first couple innings. Captain Brady Anderson lays it all out and makes a one handed catch laying all the way out for a huge out in the outfield. In the top of the 5th Kickin Grass had a huge inning contributed by Calvin Shepard for a 2 run homer putting them up. Kickin Grass and Takin Names win 17-3

Greenbriar Parkl Field 3 (5:45pm)

Florida Mike and the Freeballers (Purple) vs. Where My Pitches At? (Sport Grey)
This was a close game with few highlights but quality play all around. Free ballers got up early in the first inning. That didn’t scare the other team though as they came back to score 2 runs each of the following innings. All tied up in the 4th 6-6 the Free Ballers come through with back to back base hits moving runners station to station holding onto the win to the 7th. Free ballers win 8-6.
