Memorial Ballpark - Week 3 Highlights

SchoolYard AllStars vs. Kickboxing Kickballers: The weather made this contest a lot more entertaining as the game progressed, as blowing winds and a drizzle added a few new elements. KBKB hoped the wind at their backs would help on offense, but were turned away to some phenomenal outfield catches. SYAS converted in the bottom half of the 1st, putting one on the board. In the 2nd, Paul Ballweber from SYAS converted a sensational double play at 1st and at 3rd to keep KBKB scoreless. The game tied up in the 3rd after KBKB learned to kick away from Paul. In the top of the 4th, a rocket to Matt Sayar and a heads up dive back to first got SYAS out of the jam. SYAS struck quickly, scoring 2 in the bottom of the 4th to go up 3-1. KBKB wouldn't go away though, striking back with 2 in the 5th to tie it again. SYAS took control from there, scoring in the 5th and 6th, and putting the game on ice. SchoolYard AllStars win, 5-3

Saved By The Ball vs Lights Out: Weather helped the offense in the other game, however it was blowing in on this game, making offense a premium. Lights Out noted the weather, and used bunts and low drives to score 2 in the 1st, only to be stopped by Becky Squire at 2nd base to stop the bleeding. Erika for LO hoped return the favor in the top of the 2nd as she too gets outs at 2nd base to halt Saved By The Ball in their tracks. LO drove home 3 huge runs to go up 5-0. SBTB searched for some kind of offense, but the weather and defense held them in check for much of the game. Wes Wilhelm kept the shutout alive in the 6th with a double play, but when it was SBTB’s turn to defend the diamond, Kevin Burbach answered back with an awesome double play of his own to end the inning. SBTB finally went all out and were able to get 4 runs to avoid the shutout. Lights Out wins, 7-4

Super Eagles vs Hangin' With Patch Adams: As the night progressed, the weather became an even larger factor, as the wind and drizzle came a little harder (even a few flakes of the white stuff appeared!!) The Eagles were flying high, as they soared to a 4 run 1st. Hanging With Patch Adams wasn't letting the game get away that easy as they countered back with 3 runs of their own. The farther into the game, the more the cold got to the players. HPA was able to scratch one across in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game at 4. The Eagles wanted more, and got it in the form of another 4 run burst in the 4th. HPA used a costly drop in right field to score 2, which brought the game to 8-6. The Eagles used another burst, in the form of 5 runs thanks to a 3 run bomb from Chris Vinley to go up 13-6. But they weren't done there... they tallied 7 more runs in the 7th to go up 20-6. HPA was able to slide 4 more across  in the bottom of the 7th, but they came up short. Super Eagles win, 20-10

CareCore vs Pitches Be Crazy: Both squads got the brunt of the storm, and they came bundled up for this matchup. PBC knew to stay warm they had to keep moving, so they moved 4 across home in the 1st. CC hoped the weather would only affect PBC, but after a scoreless 2nd, they realized they weren’t immune to the cold. PBC dropped 5 runs on CC to go up 9-0. CC searched for offense high and low, but again were turned away, thanks to some stellar defense in the outfield. PBC scored again in the 3rd, 3 runs worth, to go up 12. CC tried booting the ball high and far, however PBCs outfield were under it all the time. PBC struck again in the 4th, for 4 more runs to go up by 16. CC turned their focus to defense in the 5th, and were able to keep PBC off the board – for this inning, that is. PBC wanted more, and with an offensive switch, dropped 4 more runs in the 6th to put the game out of reach and secure the win. Pitches Be Crazy wins, 20-0

Chocolate Sensation vs Bazinga: The weather was beginning to clear for the night cap, however Bazinga were shorthanded and couldn't field a team. Chocolate Sensation wins, 3-0
