Kicks N Giggles
(Light Blue) vs Schweddy Balls (White):
As we approach the end of the 2015 regular season, both
squads came looking to produce another signature win in hopes to create some
momentum for the Pikes Peak Cup. KNG really got things rolling early, as in the
top of the 1st inning, we get to see a rare back to back home run occurrence,
coming off the cleats of Alex Moorhead and Connor Carman, creating 3 runs on
the board and a lot of happy customers. Schweddy Balls wouldn’t lay down for
KNG, with the first three batters all getting on base with no outs, giving Wes
Wilhelm all the motive he needed to jack a ball high and deep to right, all the
way to the fence for a GRAND SLAM!!!! KNG would look for answers in the 2nd,
as they were having to deal with Wes on the mound as well, but there was no
offense to be seen in the inning. Schweddy Balls would go on to score another
run in the 2nd to increase their lead to 5-3. Top of the 3rd,
and no lead was safe tonight, as Connor Carman, with 2 runners on, boots a ball
to right and the right fielder for SB drops the catch, and turns an out into a
3 run home run to give KNG the 6-5 lead. Bottom of the 3rd, and
Schweddy was looking to score quickly, but were stonewalled in their efforts
with a tip drill catch from Alan Paquin and Alex Moorhead to create a double
play and end SB’s threat. KNG would get a big insurance run in the 4th,
as Alan Paquin would sac fly to left to give KNG a 7-5 lead. It seemed as
though neither team was wanting to give an inch, as there was zero offense in
the 5th and 6th innings. Top 7, and KNG would load up the
bases with 1 out for Alan Paquin, and he’d get a boot on the ball, but Wes
Wilhelm saves the day with a diving stop at the mound and the out at 3rd
for an unassisted double play, keeping his team well in it. Bottom 7, and SB
needed to score and score quick, and Chris Green would happily oblige, as be
blasts an RBI single and on a ridiculous series of throws, comes home himself
to tie the game at 7. Game ends in a tie,
7-7.
Memorial Park #3,
Field 2 6pm:
Fresh Kicks of Ball
Air (Black) vs Pandora’s Box (Royal Blue):
In one of the last interdivisional games this year, we got
the pleasure of 2 very different styled teams going at it. FBKA got out to a hot
start right out of the gates, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st.
PB would get shut down as fast as they were coming up, a 1-2-3 inning for FBKA.
FBKA would layer on the runs in the 2nd, as a 2 run double from Tony
Case would cap a 3 run inning to put FBKA up 5-0 early. PB needed to score in
the worst way, but early in this game was not their time as they were shut
down, stranding 2. Moving ahead to the top of the 4th, same score,
and Ryan Longan did Ryan Longan things and boots an absolute firecracker to
right center for a lead off solo jack to put FBKA up 6. PB was searching for
answers on offense, but another pivotal 1-2-3 inning by the FBKA defense kept
the shut out alive. Top 5, and FBKA went right back to work on the PB defense,
bringing 2 around the bases to bolster their lead to 7. Bottom of the 5th,
and the shutout is over, as a 2 run sacrifice at 1st would get PB on
the board late, sparking a little momentum, 8-2. Top 7, and FBKA was still not
happy they blew the shutout, and they made the PB defense pay, as FBKA would
string together 5 runs in the inning to go up 13-2. PB had the top of the order
up, and a series of slow rolls from FBKA proved costly as PB would scrape home
1 more run before the final whistle blew. Fresh Kicks of Ball
Air wins, 13-3.

Field 1 7pm:
Bad News Brews (Daisy
Yellow) vs Bazinga (Red):
In a game that on paper seemed like a 1st round
playoff game, this game proved that anything is possible. Top of the 1st,
and BNB got out early and often, putting up 2 runs in the 1st,
putting Bazinga in a very unfamiliar spot. Craig Boyungs would attempt to make
it 3-0, but a bang bang play at the plate said he was out. Bazinga would settle
down and get back to what they knew, as Nate Kischer would high hurdle a ball
to avoid the out and score to spark a 2 run inning for Bazinga. 2nd
inning, both teams were stonewalls on defense, as both squads were shut down
1-2-3. Bottom of the 3rd, Bazinga looked ready to score, and score
they would as they’d bring home the entire heart of their offense, putting 4 on
the scoreboard and going up 6-3. Top of the 5th, same score, and BNB
would get runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Nate
Kischer had other plans, as he’d create all 3 outs, the last being most
impressive with a diving stop down the 3rd base line to keep the 4
run Bazinga lead intact. Bottom of the 5th, and it was the Nate
Kischer show this week, as he would bomb a 2 run jack to deep right field to
give Bazinga an 8-2 lead late. Top of the 7th, and again BNB would get runners in scoring
position, but back to back put outs at 1st base would end the night
for BNB.
Bazinga wins, 8-2.

2 7pm:
Sons of Pitches (Ash
Grey) vs Hashtag Balls (Forest Green):
This game would have everything we’d expect in a run n’ gun
shootout, with 2 high powered offense going at each other this week. But alas, Hashtag
Balls was unable to field a full unit to play due to some other circumstances,
and would not be able to compete. Sons of Pitches wins,
3-0
Memorial Park #3,
Field 1 8pm:
Hot Ice (Dark
Heather) vs Pitches Be Crazy To (Carolina Blue):
In a matchup of 2 heavyweight teams that have made the
championship games in the past, this game put everything on the table to get a
big playoff push late. PBCT got the show on the road in the top of the 1st
with a 2 run single with 2 outs up the gap to give PBCT a 2-0 lead. Hot Ice
would look to counter but were unsuccessful in driving the 2 batters they got
on base home. Top of the 2nd, and PBCT had a hero in Sara Fields,
who would look for a leadoff home run, but would get pegged between 3rd
base and home by Alex Koehler and that’s the only offense PBCT had this inning.
Troy Martinez for PBCT was on the mound, and he was absolutely filthy with his
pitches, forcing a 1-2-3 inning on Hot Ice in the 2nd. Top 3, and
PBCT would strike again, as Josh Rodney and Kathryn Close would boom back to
back RBI hits to double their lead to 4. That lead would be short lived as a
sac fly by Alex Koehler and an RBI single by Caitlyn Beans would draw the game
back within 2 runs. In the 4th and 5th, Hot Ice turned
white hot, putting down PBCT 1-2-3 in consecutive innings. Bottom of the 5th,
and Hot Ice would knot the game up, with a series of singles and RBI strikes
from Alex Koehler and Jake Meyer would knot this game up 4. We go to the top of
the 7th now, still a 4 all game, and PBCT would turn on the jets and
the power and clobber home 4 runs, a 2 run shot by Josh Rodney and RBI blasts
by Sara Fields and Marci Conder would blow the doors open to 8-4. Hot Ice would
get a batter on early, but Martinez for PBCT would do the dirty work, and shut
down 3 straight batters, sealing the win. Pitches Be Crazy To wins, 8-4
Memorial Park #3, Field 2 8pm:
HeadShots Should Count (Sport Grey) vs Ballsagna (Charcoal):
In the nightcap for
week 6, we had 2 teams looking to add just a little more to their resumes for
the playoffs. HSSC would get out to an early lead, as Luke Northam got this
show going with a 2 run RBI double down the line to put HSSC up 2-0. Ballsagna
would look to counter, but Christian Watts was on his game and silenced them
1-2-3. Top 2, and HSSC went absolutely bananas with hits falling all over the
field but Ballsagna’s arms, they’d score 5 runs in the inning to go up 7. No matter
what Ballsagna would do, HSSC had an answer, as Ballsagna was able to get 2
runners on, but no body home. Top of the 4th, same score, and now it
was Braxton Finch’s turn to light the offense, as his 2 run double would spark
an explosion, 6 runs coming around to go up a baker’s dozen, 13-0. Ballsagna
would get batters on 1st and 2nd, but a pop out and throw
back to 2nd for a double play by Christian Watts would spell doom
for Ballsagna. HSSC would slow down on offense and Ballsagna’s defense
bolstered up, as Ballsagna would only allow 1 run in the 5th and 6th
innings. Ballsagna would get a bases loaded opportunity in the 6th
to get on the board late, but a bomb by Ross Schumaker would end in the arms of
Klint Kane, ending the threat. HSSC would put the icing on the game with one
more run in the 7th, and Christian Watts would get 3 straight
popouts in the bottom of the 7th to preserve the shutout win. HeadShots Should Count wins, 16-0
