Fort Collins - Week 7 - Highlights

Edora Park Field 1 (6pm)

Florida Mike and the Free Ballers (Lime) vs. Bobs Your Uncle (Violet): It was a close game throughout, but it really came down to the wire in the bottom of the 7th inning… Florida Mike and the Free Ballers were on top 6-5 going into the 5th inning, but that’s when Bob’s Your Uncle pounced and scored three runs to take the lead! Brent Behler from Florida Mike and the Free Ballers would hit a home run in the bottom of the 7th inning to make it a one run game, but that was close as they could get. Niki Weesner, Captain of Florida Mike and the Free Ballers, commented after the game, “We started the season strong, but after a couple injuries and some mental lapses, we have been on a downward slide… Maybe free ballin at every game isn’t the best strategy.” Bobs Your Uncles wins 8-7.

Edora Park Field 2 (6pm)

New Kicks on the Block (White) vs. Kicktease (Red):  What a crazy game! With first place on the line for Kicktease, it looked they had everything all wrapped up going into the 7th inning with a 4-3 lead... Kicktease had maintained their lead despite two inside the park home runs early on from Austin “The Mole” Cole and Brian “The Jackhammer” Jackson from New Kicks on the Block. Sarah “Laser Tag” McTaggart’s bobble catch for a key out in the top of the 6th certainly helped Kicktease’s cause as well—then the floodgates opened up however. With two outs in the top of the 7th inning, the legs from New Kicks on the Block caught fire—everyone who got on base scored! By the time the carnage had ended, New Kicks on the Block had scored 10 runs! Absolute insanity!!! New Kicks on the Block wins 13-4.

Edora Park Field 3 (6pm)

Just Kickin It (Old Gold) vs. Grassholes (Carolina Blue): Never underestimate your opponent… The Grassholes thought they had it all wrapped up after “B’s” leadoff triple in the top of the third inning, which was then followed by a two-run home run for the Grassholes. However, Amanda Daul from Just Kickin It quickly swung the momentum with a spectacular line drive catch to end the top of the 3rd inning. From there on out, it was a tight one… Dick Vitale, the announcer for the game, commented afterwards, “If it weren’t for some questionable calls by the umpire, I think Just Kickin It might have pulled off the upset… I am putting them on upset alert throughout the playoffs baby!” Grassholes win 6-5.

Edora Park Field 4 (6pm)

RiKICKulous (Irish Green) vs. Check Out My Big Kick (Maroon): Another tight one! RiKICKulous scored two runs in the top of the 1st inning and Check Out My Bick Kick scored three runs in the bottom of the 1st inning… From there on out though, it was slim pickings. In the top of the 3rd inning. the center fielder for Check Out My Big Kick, Brady Andersen, had a great play to stop a runner from advancing. And then RiKICKulous’ pitcher, Jason Greene, completed an amazing diving catch to keep the score all tied up in the top of the 5th inning. (Seethe highlight here.) However, the scoreboard ultimately remained unchanged after the 1st inning, thereby giving Check Out My Big Kick another key victory. Check Out My Big Kick wins 3-2.

Edora Park Field 1 (7pm)

Oilers SLTI (Daisy Yellow) vs. Lunchbox Violators (Royal Blue): Once again, as we gear up for another posteason, the Oilers SLTI are looking in top form. The Oilers SLTI would score early and often in this one… Then later, Angela Smith’s over-the-shoulder-grab in right field would help secure her team the victory. Smith said after the game, “I am so proud to be a part of this squad. Every game, we go out there and play our little hearts out… Sometimes we don’t win, but when we believe in each other, anything is possible.” Including maybe another Horsetooth Cup…? Oilers SLTI win 9-4.

Edora Park Field 2 (7pm)

A Night at the Roxbury (Black) vs. Ballz N Dollz (Heliconia): Talk about an offensive explosion!!! A Night at the Roxbury really went all out in this one… In particular, Bobby “Hobby Lobby” Jorgensen for A Night at the Roxbury had a spectacular RBI in the bottom of the 3rd inning. However, there was still some defense on display: Dustin “Make My Day” Clay made a beautiful diving catch in the bottom of the 2nd inning for Ballz N Dollz, and Maggie “Monster Mags” McKinley secured an amazing diving catch as well in the top of the 6th. The lack of offense for Ballz N Dollz was ultimately their undoing again though. A Night at the Roxbury wins 10-1.

Edora Park Field 3 (7pm)

High Rollers (Charcoal) vs. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Light Pink): This contest undoubtedly had the intensity of a playoff matchup… The High Rollers jumped out to an early lead after Colter Schutle scored a run in the bottom of the 1st inning with some expert base running techniques. But the defending champs, Little Lebowski Urban Achievers, weren’t going down without a fight. Game MVP Dane Anderson’s layout catch at third base and his leadoff triple/score in the top of the 4th inning sent the statement that his team wasn’t giving up. Unfortunately for the defending champs, the High Rollers were ready to respond with some insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. See you guys in the playoffs! High Rollers win 6-2.

Edora Park Field 4 (7pm)

Where My Pitches At (Purple) vs. American Made (Sport Grey): What is with all these close games? Talk about disparity! After a slow offensive start that was helped along by Spencer Hellwig’s defense in center field for Where My Pitches At, American Made would finally put four runs on the board in the top of the 4th inning…. But could they hold on???!!! Allen Stefanik from American Made sure gave it his all—his diving catch in foul territory for an out in the bottom of the 6th inning brought his team one step closer to victory. (Seethe highlight here.) However, Where My Pitches At turned in a valiant effort by scoring two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning… So close yet so far! American
