Colorado Springs - Week 2 - Highlights

HeadShots (white) vs. Bazinga (red):
HeadShots got to work early in this game when Jared Dumont scored Luke Northam on a fielder’s choice. Baylor Finch then followed with a shot that found a hole in the Bazinga outfield, scoring Jared on the play. Baylor later came around to score to give HeadShots an early 3-0 lead. Not used to playing from behind, Bazinga was able to cut into the lead in the 1st after a monster 2-run home run by Todd Brewer over the outstretched arms of HeadShots’ right fielder. After going down 1-2-3 in the next two innings, HeadShots was able to get runners on base, but just couldn’t bring anyone else home. Meanwhile Bazinga’s offense got rolling in the 3rd after a flurry of bunts and singles to go up 6-3. Nate Kischer put the finishing touches on the route in the 4th after an RBI triple and later came home on Tim Menditto’s double.
Final Score: Bazinga 9, HeadShots 3

Hashtag Balls (forest green) vs. Bazinga (red):
In a rematch of last week’s opening game, Bazinga would break the game open in the 2nd inning when the whole lineup would get an opportunity at the plate. Nate Kischer booted a 2-run home run, and Keith Hausam knocked out a bases loaded triple to make it an 8-2 game. Hashtag Balls answered with a rally in the 3rd, after Baby Simpson (Maggie McCullough) and Big Hurt (Adam Huerta) scored on a clutch 2-out double by Horny (Camden Nahorniak). Farmer Brown (Jon McDonald) brought Camden home on the next play with an RBI single to bring the deficit to 3 runs. However, Bazinga stretched out the lead in the final two innings with RBI singles by Erin Heberlein, Todd Brewer, and Keith Hausam to give Bazinga the 6-run win.
Final Score: Bazinga 12, Hashtag Balls 6

The Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (black) vs. The Freeballers (lime):
After going MIA the first week, The Fresh Kicks of Ball Air made a strong debut against their would-have-been opponents from week 1. Alan Paquin started the attack for FKOBA with a bunt single, later coming around to score with Sarah Murphy on Erik Martin’s single-turned-triple after several costly overthrows by The Freeballers defense. The Freeballer’s offense was stymied by the seemingly over-bouncy pitching of Alan Paquin. The FKOBA offense didn’t stop churning out the runs though, adding to their 7-0 lead in the 5th after back-to-back singles by Erik Martin and Wilfred Vincent, scoring 2 more to make it 9-0. In the 6th inning FKOBA would attempt to make another rally, but after a line drive was caught by The Freeballers’ 2nd baseman, FKOBA’s Shane Martin was caught not tagging up and was emphatically pegged out for the double play as he attempted to slide headfirst back to 1st base. The Freeballers made one last attempt to score in the bottom of the 7th, after Sean McWethy was able to get on base with a leadoff single. After advancing to 3rd base and with 2 outs, Sean was pegged out as he leapt for home plate on a grounder by Natasha Trozzolo to end the game.
Final Score: Fresh Kicks of Ball Air 10, The Freeballers 0
