Fort Collins - Week 6 - Highlights

Greenbriar Park Field 1 (5:45pm)

Ballz n Dollz (Neon Orange) vs. Team America (Royal Blue):
Both teams were so scared of each other, that they didn’t want to show up and face the other one! That doesn’t mean there weren’t stellar plays though! Both Isaac Wallis and Alison Ford from Ballz n Dollz had amazing bobble catches. See the video replays here and here. Unfortunately for them though, Team America had just enough players to avoid the forfeit and claim the official victory. Team America wins 3-0.

Greenbriar Park Field 2 (5:45pm)

Oilers (Heliconia) vs. Balls and Dolls (Violet): Coming off of last week’s loss, the Oilers were ready to bring the heat! “Roaring” Russell Ehlinger really heated the game up in the top of the 3rd inning with a ground rule double, which helped his team nail 4 runs that inning. “All feet” Angela Smith transitioned the momentum to the Oilers defense in the bottom of the 6th inning with a jaw-dropping kick instead of a throw to first base for a solid out! With steady runs scored almost every inning by the Oilers, and Balls and Dolls only scoring one run in the 3rd and one in the 7th, there was just not enough offensive mojo to keep them in the game. Oilers wins 14-2.

Greenbriar Park Field 1 (6:45pm)

Florida Mike and the Free Ballers (Purple) vs. Flint Tropics (Neon Yellow):  Can you smell the upset brewing??? Florida Mike and the Free Ballers sure could! The Flint Tropics jumped out to an early lead, but their offense was quickly stifled by the combined defensive efforts of Florida Mike’s Meghan King, Brooke Brown, and Niki Weesner in the top of the 2nd inning. Then came Captain Brent Behler’s league-leading 20th home run of the season in the bottom of the 2nd to take the lead for Florida Mike and the Free Ballers! Behler’s surge in home runs this season should come as no surprise after his off-season training regime with hitting coach Barry Bonds. The Flint Tropics would come back to tie the game in the 4th inning off of a suicide squeeze by two-way threat Matt Dea. But then Florida Mike and the Free Ballers would surge ahead once again in the 5th and 6th innings! Finally, it came down to the 7th and final inning, and that’s when the defending champs stepped up to the plate (literally and figuratively) with a five score inning to narrowly avoid a big upset—what a game!!! Flint Tropics win 10-8.

Greenbriar Park Field 2 (6:45pm)

2 Legit 2 Kick (Navy) vs. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Ash Grey): Field 2 was on fire tonight and this game definitely kept ref Dane moving with all-star plays all game long. The second inning was a game changer with 2 Legit 2 Kick scoring 7 runs. Then “The Koodoo” Kossoris nailed the lid on the coffin with his “Straight Out of Greenbriar” home run in the top of the 4th inning. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers tried to crack 2 Legit 2 Kick’s strong defense, but plays like “Jumping” Jordan’s diving throw for an out at first in the bottom of the 3rd proved that they were impenetrable. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers rallied in bottom of the 7th inning with 5 runs scored, but 2 Legit 2 Kick had too large of a lead. 2 Legit 2 Kick wins 19-11.

Greenbriar Park Field 3 (6:45pm)

Kickin Grass and Takin Names (Sapphire Blue) vs. Cheba Hut (Green): With only 2 players showing up this week for Cheba Hut, we are starting to wonder if they are too busy making and eating sandwiches to come out and play kickball. Kickin Grass and Takin Names still got in a good practice and are ready to dominate the last game of the season next week before the tournament! Cheba Hut – will you show your faces next week??  - xoxo a curious Ballz and Dollz team. Kickin Grass and Takin Names Wins 3-0.
