Sunday Funday - Cuernavaca Park - Week 5 Highlights

Kevin Bacon vs. Star Spangled Hammered

Kevin Bacon jumped out to an early lead with one run in the top of the 1st inning. Bacon also had some pretty stellar 'D' that kept Hammered off the board until the 5th inning. While Bacon was playing that good defense they were able to build their lead with one run in the top of the 4th inning and three runs in the top of the 5th inning. Down 5-0, Hammered scored their first run in the bottom of the 5th inning to break up the shutout. Hammered was able to play some tight defense and give themselves a chance in the bottom of the 7th inning. That is when they made this game real interesting. Hammered scored three runs but that wasn't quite enough. Kevin Bacon wins, 5-4.

Dice vs. My Balls Just Dropped

This was all Dice. They scored nine runs in the top of the 1st, six in the top of the 2nd, three in the 3rd, and four in the 4th. That's a total of 22 runs over the first four innings. Dice also played great defense and only allowed one run over those same four innings. Dice wins, 22-1.

After School Special vs. Shinobi Dragon Ninja

Special started this game off with a bang! Cutter blasted a 3 run HR in the top of the 1st inning. Ninja was not scared scored six runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st inning. This was highlighted by Jesse Irvin's 3 run HR. Special took a break in the 2nd inning but in the 3rd inning they got back to their scoring ways. Special scored five runs in the 3rd, three runs in the 4th, and five more in the 5th. Ninja had to take two innings off before they  got on the board again. They would score one run in the 4th, three runs in the 5th, and five runs in the 7th. Blair Withington accounted for three of the runs in the 7th with a HR. After all the scoring was finished, this was a close game. After School Special wins, 16-15.

Hose Draggers vs. Roshambo

Roshambo took the early lead with one run in the bottom of the 1st inning. Hose Draggers would answer with two runs of their own in the top of the 2nd inning. Trailing by one run, Roshambo's Mike Reed walked to the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning. He booted a solo HR and tied this game at 2 a piece. Both teams would score one run in the 3rd inning to keep this game tied. Hose Draggers got some good defense along way from catcher Lee Gullickson. He made a pretty spectacular throw to get the runner on their way to first base. Roshambo would break the tie in the bottom of the 5th inning with two RBIs from Kevin Dough. Hose Draggers could only muster one run in the top of the 6th inning to make the game 5-4 in favor of Roshambo. With the score remaining the same this game entered the final inning. Hose Draggers went to the plate and manufactured two runs to take a one run lead. They would then take the field and play some tight defense to lock up the victory. Hose Draggers win, 6-5.

Ballsagna vs. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air

What a great game!! Kicks got on the board first with a RBI single from Steve B. in the bottom of the 1st. Ballsagna scored their first runs in the top of the 2nd inning off a Derek Freeman two run HR. Then in the bottom of the 2nd inning Ballsagna played some great defense. They were able to relay a throw all the way to the plate and get a run saving out. Kicks were able to get one in the inning to tie this game at 2. Then in the top of 5th inning, Ballsagna's Derek Freeman scored on a fluke play. He was on first when the ball lightly kicked on the ground. The ball was over thrown at first base and went into the outfield. Freeman was on his horse and scored all the way from first base on the play. Kicks got a break of their own in the bottom of the 6th inning. Ballsagna dropped a routine fly ball and allowed Kicks to score the game tying run. In all we would play three extra innings and still couldn't get a winner. No matter what team did, the other team would match it. Game called in a tie, 5-5.

Untouchaballs vs. Booze on 1st

It was a little intimidating reffing this game. With George Washington, 2 Abraham Lincolns, and the Statue of Liberty playing there was a lot of pressure to get things right. The Untouchaballs were not the least bit intimidated and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning. Both of these runs came off a double by George McGuirk. Booze would answer with one run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to keep this game real close.  In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Untouchaballs got some pretty awesome defense from their third baseman Ryan Zelanka. He fielded a ground ball and came up firing. His throw was little awry but still hit home. The ball struck the runner in the foot. Combine that with the wet grass and the runner went down. I doubt he could do it again but it was a great play! With all those great historic leaders on their side and I'm sure a few inspirational speeches were given, Booze was able to mount a come back. They scored one run in the bottom of the 4th inning off a Lauren Zoeller single. Then they scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Both teams played good defense and kept this game scoreless over the last two innings. Booze on 1st win, 3-2.
