Lunchbox Violators (Daisy Yellow) vs. Wombat Mermaids (Kiwi Green): The
Wombat Mermaids must have been afraid of getting violated if you know what I
mean… Lunchbox Violators win by forfeit
3-0.
City Park Field 2 (6pm)
Left Sharks (Carolina Blue) vs. Kicktease (Forest Green): In a consolation matchup of veteran squads,
one thing stood out—pitching. Or as we call it in kickball parlance: “rolling”.
It all started off with a three-up, three-down inning in the top of the 1st
inning by CY Young winner and Left Sharks starting pitcher Colton Cuny. Word on
the street is that Cuny is hanging up that big red ball after this season, but
we wouldn’t count him out for long… You can take the person out of kickball,
but you can’t take the kickball out of the person. Cuny did get in a “parting
shot” though when one of his foul balls ricocheted back and hit the umpire in a place that God only meant to be treated nicely. With little scoring to be had on either side, the Left Sharks simply
grabbed the lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning and held on
throughout. Left Sharks win 3-1.

Social License to Intoxicate (Orange) vs. There’s Always Next Year
(Tennessee Orange): Championship time!!!!! In a rematch of the very first
game of the season that ended in a tie, it was time to settle the score once
and for all. Bum bum bum!!! Both teams brought the intensity early, with
There’s Always Next Year scoring one run in the top of the 1st
inning and Social License to Intoxicate scoring three runs in the bottom of the
1st. Throughout the contest, Social License to Intoxicate played
small ball on offense and was always opportunistic when scoring runs, like when
There’s Always Next Year dropped a two-out catch and Social License would go on
to score a run from second base. Their offensive effort was buoyed by the
lights-out pitching of Adam “The Horse” Morse who notched a strikeout in the
top of the 6th inning and would go on to pitch the whole game. Both
teams deserve a sportsmanship award though for stopping mid-game to look for a
lost piece of jewelry by one of the Social License to Intoxicate players. What
a group! Another shout out goes to Paul “The Mouth” Schwarz for winning season
MVP honors for Social License to Intoxicate. Congrats Paul! Schwarz spearheaded
Social License to Intoxicate’s small ball game strategy by having a .999
on-base percentage. Social License to Intoxicate would go on to hold their
early lead and win their second straight Horsetooth Cup! The silver lining
though for the second place team—there’s always next year, right? Social License to Intoxicate wins 6-3.
City Park Field 4 (6pm)
New Kicks on the Block (Sapphire Blue) vs. Odd Balls (Purple): Another
instant classic in the toilet bowl!!! New Kicks on the Block jumped out to an
early lead in the top of the 1st inning by scoring two runs, which
was then followed by a solo home run by Matt “The Reaper” Fisher in the top of
the 3rd. But the Odd Balls would scratch and claw their way back to
tie up the game in the bottom of the 6th. Excellent catching on by
both teams helped keep the score low. Kickball purist Roger Federer commented
afterwards that he really liked the “Sick D” from both squads. Once it went to
extra innings though, the fresher legs of New Kicks on the Block prevailed over
the veteran experience of the Odd Balls. New
Kicks on the Block wins 4-3.
