Memorial Ballpark - Week 3 Highlights

Vicious and Ambitious vs. Balls N Dolls: VA was coming off an impressive win last week and BND was looking to stop their momentum. Nick Raynor got Vicious out to a hot start in the 1st with a 2 run rocket to cap off a 5 run 1st…holy smokes what a start to a game, talk about ambitious!!  BND wouldnt go down silently, as they maneurverd a run in to cut the deficit to 4. However VA answered with another run and amazing defense by Alan Paquin with a vertical leap grab that left fans in awe (check it out)!!  Courtney Hawkins saw this catch and was innnnnnnnnnspired; she pulled off the greatest double-try-on-the-ground-off-a-foot catch in the history of the game and stymied BND (you’ll get the jist…we understand there’s many errors here, the point is the catch)!  Defense wins championships, especially when the opposing offense doesn’t use Beast Mode at the end of the game!!  You thought we were done there didn’t you?  Nope.  Once again, Vicious came up huge in the 5th when Nick Raynor made an amazing diving/sliding grab to hold BND yet again from scoring…Vicious was so amazing defensively in this game even they felt bad for BND!  VA would put the petal to the metal with 3 runs in the 6th to go up by 9.  BND had one last shot, and answered with a 3-run bomb by Connor Carman, but there wasn’t going to be away to overcome VA’s defensive display this week.  Vicious and Ambitious wins, 10-4

Kick Tease vs. Aerotek Ball Busters: Both squads came ready to play in this week 3 matinee. KT would plate the 1st run and were going for another but Diane Sheldon at Short Stop for ABB made an amazing arm-out snag/catch to end the threat…nice instints Diane!!  ABB would use their fancy footwork and aggressive base running to get the run right back in the bottom of the 1st to bring the game 1-1. ABB would again score in the 2nd and started putting the pressure on the KT offense.  Steve Formalarie accepted that pressure for Kick Tease, and booted a ground rule double in right field, starting an exciting 3-run 3rd for the team. KT wouldnt stop there, and in the 4th, added another run to go up 5-2...we wondered if things were getting out of reach for ABB??  ABB answered the challenge with a big 2-run 4th which propelled them to within 1 run and duplicated the effort in the 5th with another 2 runs to take the lead!!  What a comeback by Aerotek!!  Familiar to the pressure, Steve Formalarie would bat in the 7th for KT and started the inning with a double, thus being the tieing run at 2nd and go ahead run at the plate kicking.  However, Aerotek kept Steve from scoring while recording 3 straight outs and received the ‘W’ nod!!!  Aerotek Ball Busters win, 6-5

Fresh Kicks of Ball Air vs Ballsagna:  FKBA woulda made Will Smith smile with a smooth 5 run 1st and blasting the game open early.  ANY time you start a game with 5-runs in GO Kickball you’ve increased your odds of winning dramatically!  Ballsagna wouldnt go down easy, getting on base often but struggled with flyouts and tagging up to a solid FKBA defensive team.  Ballsagna would halt FKBA in the 2nd with a finger tip grab at the plate by John Chapman to end the threat...it’s always the little things, like finger tips that make the difference…nice snag John!!  Ballsagna Adam Hills made a spectacular play in the 2nd, with another double play at 2nd after a fly out to center field. FKBA would go back on the offensive with a massive 4 runs to go up 9 runs early on. Ballsagna would get bases loaded with 2 out in the 3rd, but the FKBA defense held their runners at bay. FKBA would tack on another run in the 4th to go up double digits. Ballsagna would get on base early with 2 runners with no outs, but that would be all the farther Ballsagna would get but would get stonewalled. Both defenses finished the game perfect, with no more runs being scored by either squad. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air wins, 10-0

Pitches Be Crazy 2 vs Tuckin With Jenner: These two squads came into this week looking to get a massive win early on. PBC2 would get on the board early and often with a 4 run 1st. Mike Mattorano would show his defensive prowess with a snag down the 3rd base line to TWJ down for the inning. PBC2 wouldn't be denied on offense again, scoring one but thatd be all they could muster. Brian Peterson would break the shutout up thanks to a ridiculous slide at home and was safe. Top 3, and Zach Adame would make another reaching catch to keep TWJs hopes alive. Mike Mattorano would make a ridiculous guard rail grab in the 3rd for an enormous end to the 3rd inning. Bottom 4, and Mattorano would do it all again, showing defensive MVP moments all game and capping it with a solo double play to end the TWJ threats.  TWJ wouldnt get a lot of chances to convert any offense, and PBC2 put the game away with lock down defense the rest of the way. Pitches Be Crazy 2 wins, 5-1.

Bazinga vs Beauties and Balls: Both teams came ready to rock and roll in this midseason match. BEBA would stop the Bazinga offense ice cold in the 1st with a pop out followed by a double play to end the top of the 1st. Bazinga would pull a deja vu and do the same right back to BEBA, showing the game had a lot of potential. Gina Esposito would get the Bazinga offense back to speed, thanks to a 2 run single to cap a 3 run 2nd for Bazinga. Top 3, still a 3-0 game, and a ridiculous one hand grab of a rocket by Katie Fransioli for BEBA canceled Bazingas plans to score. Top 4, and the Matt and Max connection worked to perfection from right field to first for another inning ending double play to keep the game within reach for BEBA. Bazinga would get on the board again in the 5th to go up 4 runs late in the game. Jason Miller would keep hope alive in the 6th with a 2 run rocket to right center making the game show for a fantastic finish bringing BEBA within 2. Bazinga would score 2 thanks to a near impossible was it fair or foul ball down the left field line and effectively put an end to the game. Bazinga wins, 6-2

HeadShots Should Count vs Weve Got The Runs: Neither team wanted to give an inch early this season and this game would show theyre forces to be recognized. Neither team would score in the 1st in back to back 1-2-3 outs. James Paterson would make a name for himself at 2nd base as hed post all 3 outs for WGTR in the 2nd inning. TJ Skeens would go for broke in this game on the mound, as nothing would stop him from destiny, as he allowed no runs through 3 innings. Jaren Maynard would go tit for tat as both pitchers wouldnt allow a single runner through 4 to score. Caleb O Leary would pull a rabbit out of his hat and blast home 2 runs on a single to right to break up the scoreless tie en route to a 3 run inning. TJ Skeens retained a shutout through 6 as WGTR had no answers for the HSSC defense. Jaren Maynard would make a diving stop at the mound to keep HSSC away from the scoreboard. TJ would stay on the mound for the 7th and it proved to be brilliant, as he got the first solo pitcher shutout of the season. HeadShots Should Count wins, 3-0

Win or Lose We still Booze vs Pandoras Box: Both teams were still new to the GKB circuit, but made a heck of a game in week 3. Tim Hayes for WLWSB and Andrew Ciccolini for PB would be on the mound for their respective teams and were pitching absolutely lights out as neither team would get a run through the first 3 innings. Bottom 4, and PB would get batters on 3rd and 2nd with an out and Andrew Ciccolini would break up Tim Hayes' shutout with a 2 run single to put PB up 2-0. Ciccolini became the star of the game as time went on as he pulled a double play at the mound to 1st base to end the WLWB threat. Bottom 6, and PB got another 2 runs off another single by a fellow named Andrew Ciccolini, and he would hang on for the shut out, showing he was the force of the game. Pandoras Box wins, 4-0

Hashtag Balls vs Blue Balls: In a rematch from last summers title game, both teams came with fresh looks and stronger teams. Kenny Hearn would take a step forward for # and blasted home 2 runs off a double to left center to go up 2-0. Chris Green would hit a double to right and come home in the bottom of the 1st to bring BB within a run early. Joey McElvy and Wes Wilhelm would have a brutal pitching matchup as neither pitcher would allow another run through 3. Chris Green was back up in the 4th and blasted an RBI single to right to bring Wes home and tie the game. Top 5, and Doug Burris would prove to be the hero # needed with a critical RBI single up the gap to put # up 3-2. # would put up the games final run in the 6th and shut down the BB offense, getting a statement win. Hashtag Balls wins, 4-2
