Ballz N’ Dollz (Light Pink) vs. Kickaholics
(Charcoal): Now this game had it all—some solid highlights, stellar
individual plays, and a come from behind victory! Ballz N’ Dollz jumped out to
an early 4-0 lead through the top of the 3rd inning after Dustin
“Wheels with No Meals” survived a suicide squeeze bunt and scored a run. That’s
when the Kickaholics took up their defense a few notches, as evidenced by
Rachel “No Look Required” Bondy’s catch on a tip ball that she didn’t even see
coming! By the start of the bottom of the 6th inning, the
Kickaholics were within one run of Ballz N’ Dollz at 5-4. But after Amanda “See
the Ball” Daul tagged up to score on a pop fly, the Kickaholics were now on top
6-5. Ballz N’ Dollz couldn’t answer in the 7th inning, and so ended
their bid for an undefeated season. So close! ;) Kickaholics win 6-5.
City Park Field 2 (6pm)
New Kicks on the Block (Kiwi Green) vs. Where My Pitches At (Heliconia): In another evenly matched contest, it was
anyone’s game… Luke Ballou from Where my Pitches at made an early case for game
MVP as he crushed a two-run homer in the bottom of the 1st inning,
and then made a great catch at the start of 2nd inning. However, Ashley
Jessen from New Kicks on the Block (or was it Ashley Hilderbrand?) attempted to
show up Ballou with two daring head first slides. It wasn’t until the top of
the 6th inning though that New Kicks on the Block finally took the
lead 3-2. Then came an amazing double play by New Kicks on the Block to end the
game in the bottom of the 7th! (See the highlight here!). New Kicks on the Block wins 4-2.
City Park Field 3 (6pm)
Suck My Kick (Lime) vs. The Ballin Bison (Cardinal Red): The Ballin
Bison really put their offense on display in this game, as they scored in
barrages of four, three, and five runs, all in different innings. However, Joel
Sundeen from the Ballin Bison really impressed on the defensive side of the
plate as well. Not only did he complete a tricky double play with assistance
from Matt Berg, he also had an amazing diving catch at first base. Suck My Kick
never gave up though, and let’s face it—everyone was awestruck by Jenny Rosen’s
double play… In the end though, The Ballin Bison’s teamwork and Sundeen’s MVP
effort sealed the deal. Sundeen said after the game, “No one on this team is
afraid to step up when the moment arises. And even more importantly, no one is
afraid of the ball either. That’s the key.” The Ballin Bison win 13-1.
City Park Field 4 (6pm)
Too Legit to Kick (White) vs. Balls Deep
(Blue): What a way to end it!!! No one saw this coming… In a slow-paced
contest, Balls Deep found themselves on top 3-0 for most of the game until the
bottom of the 4th inning—that’s when the flood gates finally opened
for Too Legit to Kick as they scored six runs to take a 6-3 lead! Balls Deep
answered in the next inning with three more runs to tie it up and so it looked
like we might run out of time to crown a victor in this one… That’s when the
legs of Too Legit to Kick started to get serious. First, Captain Allen Stefanik
made sure they got out of the 6th inning by kicking the ball at the
base runner for a key out. Then in the bottom of the 6th inning Cody
Wells kicked in the go-ahead home run! Too Legit to Kick kept up the late-game
scoring onslaught until the game had run out of time. It was absolute
pandemonium!!! Too Legit to Kick wins
10-6.
City Park Field 1 (7pm)
Lunchbox Violators (Daisy Yellow) vs. Purple Cobras
(Violet): Are you ready for some defense???!!! That was the mindset of the
Purple Cobras going into this game, and boy, did they deliver. The third string
pitcher for the Purple Cobras, Ario Pannell, turned in one hell of a
performance by only giving up one run in the top of the 2nd inning for
the whole game. Would it be enough though? With plays like a fingertip tip
catch by Billy Wilson from the Lunchbox Violators in the bottom of the 3rd
inning, it was definitely close. But just like venom spurting out of a cobra’s
fanged-mouth, the Purple Cobras had a couple scoring spurts that gave them the
game. Sydney Engelhard, captain for the Lunchbox Violators, said afterwards,
“It’s hard to truly violate a cobra. They are so scary!” Purple Cobras win 4-1.
City Park Field 2 (7pm)
Girls Love Big Kicks (Red) vs. My Kick Gets it Done (Orange): Even though this game only went 7 innings,
the final time clocked in at well over an hour… Yikes! The slow-paced nature of
this contest could largely be attributed to the experience on both sides,
especially on the defensive end of the field. Brian Caffee from My Kicks Get it
Done actually caught a line drive with his face. And on the flip side, Brady
Anderson from Girls Love Big Kicks had an amazing diving catch in left field.
The game remained tied at 4-4 from the 4th-7th innings,
and so it would end. Sometimes ties do happen… Girls Love
Big Kicks and My Kicks Gets it Done tie 4-4.
City Park Field 3 (7pm)
Kicktease (Old Gold) vs.
Real Housewives of Greely
(Maroon): With impressive pitching on both sides, everyone knew this game
would be a pitcher’s duel. Christoph Schindler, the starting pitcher from the
Real Housewives of Greely, took home the game MVP award after his shut out
performance! GO Kickball pitching expert Roger Clemens and former MLB All-Star
was extremely impressed with Christoph’s technique. “Unlike me,” Clemens said,
“Schindler is so good that he doesn’t need to take performance enhancing drugs
like I did. More importantly though, I was shocked to see how closely he
resembles my physical appearance. We could be brothers!” Real Housewives of Greely win 1-0.
City Park Field 4 (7pm)
High Rollers (Gold) vs. Oilers SLTI (Irish Green): Tensions were
high going into this one as both teams were trying to assert their kickball
dominance. The High Rollers wanted the Oilers SLTI, two-time Horsetooth Cup winners,
to know that they are back and ready to challenge the champs. The High Rollers
knew the key to this game would be negating the Oiler’s speed in the short-game,
and they did a pretty bang up job. Spencer “All Or Nothing” Allnut from the
High Rollers made an impressive diving catch in the top of the 1st
and Monica “Selena Who?” Gomez had several impressive snags as catcher in the
top of the 2nd inning. For the Oilers SLTI, pitcher Adam “The Iron
Horse” Morse put in a solid effort, but few slip-ups in the bottom of the 4th
inning ultimately cost his team. There’s always next time though! High Rollers win 3-1.
