City Park - Week 7

City Park Field 1 (6pm)

Lunchbox Violators (Daisy Yellow) vs. High Rollers (Gold): Sometimes it’s the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Sometimes it’s the top of the 3rd inning. The game started ominously for the Lunchbox Violators in the bottom of the 1st inning when their scoring threat was subdued by a heads up reflex catch at home plate by the High Roller’s catcher Colter “Shoot First” Schutte. Then came the top of the 4th inning when High Rollers really violated the defense of the Lunchbox Violators by scoring a whopping 7 runs!!! The Lunchbox Violators never gave up though—a stretch play for an out in the top of the 6th by Brian “Let’s Go Streaking” Strock and the solid catches by Erin “The Robber” Rossiter kept things from getting worse. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done.  High Rollers win 10-1.

City Park Field 2 (6pm)

Girls Love Big Kicks (Red) vs. Real Housewives of Greely (Maroon): This game was tight through the early innings, with the Real Housewives of Greely keeping a slight edge. James Thompson from Girls Love Big Kicks snagged a liner for an out as the catcher, meanwhile Mike LeClaire, also from Girls Love Big Kicks, made the play of the game with an impressive, over-the-should-catch Jackie Robinson-style. The Real Housewives of Greely put up another four runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to give themselves some breathing room, then exhaled deeply through the final inning for the victory. Real Housewives of Greely win 7-2.

City Park Field 3 (6pm)

Purple Cobras (Violet) vs. Kicktease (Old Gold): What an explosive offensive display! The Purple Cobras scored in all but one of the innings, thereby finishing in double digits for the night. On the defensive side, the Purple Cobras also excelled as starting pitcher and game MVP Cedric Laputz only gave up two earned runs. When asked about his secret to success, Laputz explained, “I carefully scout out the other team before I pitch, going over hours of game film and dissecting the other teams offensive strategies. No one is more prepared than me!” Purple Cobras win 10-2.

City Park Field 4 (6pm)

Oilers SLTI (Irish Green) vs. My Kick Gets it Done (Orange): Never a dull moment in this contest! From My Kick Gets It Done, Brian Caffee had an amazing throw from 30 feet away for an out, and Taylor Smith had a double play to end the 4th inning. By the end of the game, My Kick Gets it Done had completed three double plays! However, in terms of the scoreboard, the Oilers SLTI immediately put up five runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and never looked back. Sam LaRue even made an impressive catch for an out as he jumped over an opponent. The Oilers SLTI wouldn’t score again after the 1st inning though, which made one-hit wonder and super-kickball fan Sir Mixalot explain, “I can really relate with the Oilers SLTI’s performance tonight. They exploded onto the scene, but then didn’t produce much. You can’t expect to do that in the playoffs and win. Or in the music industry for that matter.” Oilers SLTI win 5-2.

City Park Field 1 (7pm)

Ballz N’ Dollz (Light Pink) vs. Balls Deep (Blue): In a last ditch effort at a playoff birth, Balls Deep knew they would have to go even deeper than usual to win this contest. Luckily, their captain, Dillon Flint, from Balls Deep came to the rescue on both offense and defense. In the bottom of the 3rd, Flint fielded a bunt and hit the runner in the back for a difficult but important out. Then Flint crushed a two-run home run in the top of the 4th inning to increase his team’s lead. After the game, Flint was an easy choice for game MVP. Flint commented, “I would trade in this award in a second for our team to have a chance in the winner’s bracket this post-season…” Maybe next year! Balls Deep wins 8-5.

City Park Field 2 (7pm)

The Ballin Bison (Cardinal Red) vs. New Kicks on the Block (Kiwi Green): What a clash of titans! These two top teams really gave everyone a taste of what the post-season could look like in this contest. New Kicks on the Block jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning and held it through the 5th inning until the Ballin Bison were finally able to tie it up 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th inning!!! And so they went into extra innings, where New Kicks on the Block was able to break the tie and score a run in the top of the 8th inning after some tactical hitting and strategic base-running. After their undefeated regular-season, New Kicks on the Block will have the number one seed going into the playoffs just one season after only scraping together one win in total. What amazing turnaround! New Kicks on the Block wins 3-2.

City Park Field 3 (7pm)

Suck My Kick (Lime) vs. Kickaholics (Charcoal): Suck My Kick went into this game never having tasted the lead this season—that was until the top of the 1st inning when they took a commanding 1-0 lead! However, this margin was quickly reversed as Avondine Hill’s two-run triple for the Kickaholics gave them a 2-1 lead after the bottom of the 1st inning. That was until Suck My Kick came back to take the lead again 7-6 going into the bottom of the 8th inning! Then came Tim Arneson’s walk-off two run home run for the Kickaholics that sent the spectators into a frenzy!!! There ended My Kick’s chance at a regular season win this time around But at least they had the lead for a brief moment—baby steps. And there’s always the playoffs… Kickaholics win 8-7.

City Park Field 4 (7pm)

Too Legit to Kick (White) vs. Where My Pitches At (Heliconia): After a rocky start to the season, Too Legit to Kick still had a shot to make the playoffs, and their new found Party in the USA outfits were definitely helping… Leah “Skywalker” Gulbranson’s diving catch in left field didn’t hurt either, alongside a three-run top of the 4th inning that gave Too Legit to Kick a 4-1 lead. Where My Pitches At, never one to go down without a fight, really impressed with some sparkling plays, including Spencer “Hell-raiser” Hellwig’s one-handed catch in the outfield. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to beat A-MUR-ICA! Too Legit to Kick wins 6-2.
