Denver - Wednesday Highlights - Week 2

Ciancio Park Field 1 (6pm)

Step Parents (royal blue) vs. Dice (purple):

Does Dice have the best 1st/opening kicking lineup in Colorado?  We say it over and over, the team that starts out scoring 1st, wins over 75% of the time.  We probably wouldn't make this statement if they didn't start out scoring, so it will come as no surprise it was 3-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd inning in this one.  All this being said, Jeremy Wagner for Step Parents, continues to impress & is the front runner for catcher of the year for GO Kickball.  Teams think twice when bunting against Jeremy & when they do, we can only appreciate the highlight reel that follows!  Step Parents' new-comer, Zach Haynes, continued Wagner's efforts when getting to pitch an inning for the club.  He came in and pitched against, "back-from-injury-former-MVP-catcher" Joe Robertson, & got him to foul out & retired the side!!  Now that is TUFF to do, and our hat's are off to you Mr. Haynes!!  We're excited to see Zach playing GKB, but hear he has another team - Gone Rogue - who's this guy playing for in The 5280 Cup??  Oct 18th, we shall see!!  Dices pitching duo, Jon Graffam & Brett Stanilka, combined for a shutout against Step Parents & through 2 games have 1 run scored against them.  Dices 2nd baseman, Ben Hedrick, smacked an RBI single in the 6th and Jon Graffam SAC'ed in 2-runs in the 7th to secure the victory.  Glad to see Joe Robertson back out on the field - #gamechanger.  Dice wins 6-0.

Ciancio Park Field 2 (6pm)

Don’t Stop Ballieving (white) vs. Punani Patrol (pink):

DSB was short handed in this one & PP capitalized.  Did we mention something about scoring 1st above?  Andrew Rohr started his night in the 1st inning with a 3-run home run to right field that just seemed to roll forever - he may have been able to score twice.  Punani had 6 in the bag in the 1st inning and were looking to score more, but Mike Huelskamp made an amazing grab at 3rd base for DSB to end the scoring onslaught.  We'll give Mike the nominee for defensive play of the night on that snag - that ball was screaming!  DSB answered in the bottom of the 2nd inning, thanks to PP's over-throw-madness, and going into the 3rd inning it was a 6-1 ball game.  At this point, DSB, inserted Mike "the referee" at catcher, and DSB went on lockdown defense!  Only PP's Klein brothers could break the "Steve Perry Curtain" defense with a RBI single & a SAC - DSB, maybe it's time to recruit that catcher!!  To finish the night off, DSB's Dan Berlau (pronounced like merlot), went yard & everyone finished the night with happy thoughts!  Punani Patrol wins 8-3.

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (6pm)

Ball So Hard (irish green) vs. The Simpletons (black):

Last week, you'd turn on ESPN and all you would hear about was Philip Powers, this week you turn it on and it's all about Dave Borowski!!  Hey, when you're new to GKB and you start out on fire offensively, you're going to be recognized, QUICK!!  We wonder who they'll be covering after this week??!!  BSH turned it on quick in this one and Dave Borowski capped off the 3rd inning to go up 5-0 with a 2-run double...ah, no big deal.  The Simpletons were looking to rebound and had runners in scoring position but Ross Castillo made a great catch to keep Simple from scoring in the bottom of the 3rd...nice snag Ross. Then, in the top of the 5th, Dave Borowski came up again & saaaamashed a grand slam to give Ball So Hard a 10-0 lead.  Remember this moment & time, when you first heard the name - Dave Borowski - is he a future hall of famer?  Only time will tell & we're excited to be a part of it!  Very notably, The Simpletons had a late 7th inning surge and scored 3 runs but they needed 3 more of those innings to stand a chance against the hot BSH.  Ball So Hard wins 10-3.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (6pm)

Balls and Dolls (lime) vs. Saved By The Balls (red):

This was the game of the night!!  Both teams won their 1st week match-ups in commanding fashion and this brought a lot of draw to the game...it did not disappoint!  SBTB came out in the 1st with aggressive base running, great ball placement, and perfect personalities!!  This managed them to score 1 in the 1st inning of play & a lot of points with ladies/guys!!  Their scoring opportunities were quickly ended in the 1st when Tamara Lischer caught a liner and threw out a non-tagging SBTB'er to complete a double play...nice work Tamara!  In similar fashion, Patrick Flischel caught the last 2 outs to close the 2nd for Balls and Dolls and keep the score 1-0. Saved By The Balls snuck in 1-run before the bell rung in 3rd period and they took what looked to be a commanding lead 2-0.  In the 5th inning, BnD had runners in scoring position & Matt Smith (SBTB) made a double play to close the 5th & still keep BnD scoreless...clutch play Matt!  BnD had enough of the shutout and scored 1 in the 6th inning and Michael Padilla's perfectly placed ball resulted in the tying RBI crossing the plate in the 7th.  We had ourselves a tie ballgame!!  In the bottom of the 7th, Saved By The Balls' David Zimmerman made the play of the night with an infield home run to win the game - now that's %^&$%ing aggressive base running, great ball placement, and one fantastic personality!! After the game, ESPN's Tim Kurkjian asked SBTHes Matt Smith about his double play & then asked him about the game winning, infield shenanigans by David Zimmerman and he said, "not only was it the most daring play I've seen someone attempt probably ever, David is really a great guy!"  What is it with Saved By The Balls, it's like they're made for TV!!  Saved By The Balls win 3-2.
