Schweddy Balls (White)
vs. Bazinga (Red):
These two former and current title holders came prepared,
knowing each other very well on both sides of the ball. Bazinga got off to a
good start with a ground rule double by Caleb Van Wingerden would score a run
early in the 1st. Top 2, and more offense from Bazinga came by way
of a Nate Kischer and Matt Howes combo scores 2 to put Bazinga up 3-0. Wes
Wilhelm for Schweddy Balls was not going to allow Bazinga to run away so easily,
as he scores all the way from 1st on a line drive up the middle to
get SB back within 2 runs. Bottom 3, and it was Schweddy Balls turn to score,
and Ethan Eaton gladly obliged by annihilating a ball over the wall in left for
a 2 run home run to knot the game at 3 after 3. Bazinga wasn’t happy that SB
was messing with their vibe and Erik Blessman did something about it with a
bases clearing 3 run double to right field would give Bazinga another 3 run
lead. Bottom 4 and Chris Green was seeing green, like on the other side of the
fence green as he bombs one to center for a solo shot to get SB back within 2
runs. Top 5, Craig Duncan leads by example for his cohorts on Bazinga, nailing
a line drive off the left field wall and scoring 2 runs to give his Bazinga squad
an 8-4 lead. Top 7, more of the same from Bazinga as speed killed Sb as Nate
Kischer started the inning with a stand up triple and Erin Blessman hits a
solid RBI double up the middle to cap a 2 run 7th. Wes Wilhelm
wasn’t about to give up on SB and would book it all the way around for an
inside the park home run in the bottom of the 7th, but it wasn’t
enough on this night. Bazinga wins 10-5.

Bad News Brews (Daisy
Yellow) vs. Pandora’s Box (Royal Blue):
Both BNB and PB came into this week ready to make an in
division rivalry game. We start in the 2nd inning (yes, the 2nd)
and Jesse Boyungs for the Bad News Brews shoots an RBI single up the middle to
break the scoreless tie. Pandora’s Box came possessed to make some offense
happen, but the Brews came ready to play defense and shut out Pandora’s Box in
the 2nd and 3rd. Bottom of the 5th, and BNB is
still preserving the shutout, and PB looked reared and ready to score, but the
web gem of a shoestring catch set by Matt Sayar for the Brews kept Pandora’s
box at bay. Top of the 6th, and Erin Moroney proved to be all the
offense that the Brews needed, as she sac fly's to left to bring home a pivotal
2nd run in this low scoring game. Top 7, and the Brews put batters
on 1st and 2nd, but a line drive to 3rd,
turned to 2nd and turned to 1st for an ultra-rare triple
play by Pandora’s Box!!! Pandora’s Box had one inning to make things right, but
simply could not capitalize and were shut out. Bad News Brews win 2-0.

Hashtag Balls (Forest
Green) vs. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Black):
Both teams came out ready to exchange blows, whether it be
on offense or defense. Both teams would score 1 in the 1st (makes
sense right?) to keep the game at a stalemate. Neither squad was willing to
give an inch in the 2nd, as they were set down in order in the top
and bottom of the inning. Bottom of the 3rd, still a 1 all game, and
Lindsay Martin creates a little buzz and drives home 2 runs on a double off the
outfielder’s hands to put FBKA up 3-1. Once again in the 4th, no one
could get on base, keeping a 3-1 score into the 5th. Then the tides
changed, as Hashtag would get on the board thanks in large part to a 2 run
double by Doug Burris knotted the game back up at 3. Tony Case proved to throw
a giant haymaker for FBKA as he deposits a ball into the grandstands for a 3
run home run to cap a 4 run bottom of the 5th for FBKA. Bottom of
the 6th, and a collective series of hits put Hashtag down late,
scoring 6 runs over 11 kickers before being put out. Hashtag tried to muster
some offense, and a solid triple by Ishan Ajmani would spark a little offense,
and he would come home to score, but alas, it was too little too late. Fresh Kicks of Ball
Air win, 13-4.

HeadShots Should
Count (Sport Grey) vs. Hot Ice (Dark Heather):
In this divisional matchup, no one really knew what to
expect as both teams were remodeled over the past 2 seasons. Hot Ice would get
this show on the road in the bottom of the 1st, with mad assistance
from a 2 run single by Beau Kelly, followed up by an RBI single by Charlie
Andrews to cap off a 3 run inning to go ahead of HSSC 3-0. Bottom of the 2nd,
and it was more of the same from Hot Ice, this time coming from a beast known as
Sam Albert booming a 2 run single to give Hot Ice the 5-0 lead. Christian Watts
and Company were not too thrilled to see themselves still down after 3 innings,
and decided to do something about it in the 4th, as back to back RBI
singles by Baylor Finch and Joel Van Wingerden put HSSC right back into the
thick of the game 5-2. Bottom of the 5th, and Hot Ice needed a hero
to step up and put the game away, and Joe Karlik stood tall as that hero,
blasting a 2 run double up the gut to put Hot Ice ahead by 5. Beau Kelly would
take the mound for Hot Ice and set HSSC down in order in the 6th and
7th, effectively putting HSSC out of the game for this night. Hot Ice wins 7-2.

Sons of Pitches (Ash
Grey) vs Ballsagna (Charcoal):
Both teams came in kicked back and relaxed this week, as
both squads were coming off of wins in week 1. Week 2 started off with a bang
as a 3 run triple by Vinny Nocito and a 2 run single by Katie Strevey capped a
5 run ticking time bomb of a 1st inning for SOP. Ballsagna was
looking for answers, but the man known as Brian Peterson was on the mound for
SOP and set them down in order 1-2-3. SOP has the newest big bat in the league
in Chris Maloney, as what to mere men would be a pop out, he shreds down the
right field line to the wall for an RBI double to put SOP up 6. Brian Peterson
was wheeling and dealing for SOP as he kept Ballsagna hitless through the 2nd
and 3rd innings. The Mogge sisters, Nancy and Jessica, came through
for SOP in the top of the 4th inning as they provided the 2 runs of
support that they were looking for to focus solely on stopping Ballsagna. Ross
Schumaker would be SOP’s kryptonite as he bombs a ball to deep right field for
a stand up triple to lead off the 4th, showing life for Ballsagna.
SOP would not deter from their mission and kept Schumaker off the base path
towards home, keeping their shutout alive. Top 6, and Katie Strevey would blast
a ball to right center field, thinking to herself she’s got a triple
guaranteed. Well lone behold, there was a man that was roaming out there by the
name of Bryan Loucks, and he rifles Strevey down as she slides into 3rd
for the incredible out. Justin Collado was not impressed, and made Loucks and
Ballsagna pay by depositing a ball over the fence for a GRAND SLAM!!!! to put
SOP up 12-0. Ballsagna would get 2 runners on base, but a crucial base running
error allowed Vinny Nocito to turn an unassisted double play at 2nd
bas e to end the 6th and keep Ballsagna gasping for runs. SOP would
put the icing on the game with 3 more runs in the 7th to accrue an
astonishing 15 runs this night. Ballsagna would load the bases, looking to get
some offense fast, but 3 straight pop outs to Katie Strevey at 3rd
base would end Ballsagna’s night. Sons of Pitches rolls
on, 15-0.

Kicks and Giggles (Light
Blue) vs. Pitches Be Crazy (Carolina Blue):
This game had everything you would want in a nightcap game
and more. Alex Moorhead would get the show started in the top of the 1st
for K&G with an RBI double into the left field corner to give his team a
1-0 lead. PBC2 was not a fan of what Moorhead did to them in the top of the
inning, and struck back hard against the K&G defense with a 2 run single by
Michael Shaw to cap what would in turn be a 3 run inning for PBC2. Neither team
was wanting to give an inch in the 2nd, as there were no kickers
able to reach base. Top 3, and K&G found the soft spot in a much bludgeoned
PBC defense as back to back RBI singles by Alex Jorge and Michael Terry would
start a 3 run 3rd and give themselves the lead again. The defenses
on both teams put on defensive adjustments and it proved worthwhile as neither
team was able to drive a run home in the 4th or 5th
inning, giving the showing of an ultimate showdown. Alex Moorhead for K&G
would come up as captain clutch as he would blast another RBI double, this time
to right, to give K&G a 2 run lead late. PBC2 had one more go round in the
7th, but K&G miffed the PBC2 offense and secured a very
impressive early season win. Kicks & Giggles
win, 5-3.
