Fort Collins - Week 3 - Highlights

Edora Park Field 1 (6pm)

RiKICKulous (Irish Green) vs. Florida Mike and the Free Ballers (Lime):

Florida Mike and the Free Ballers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in this one, but RiKICKulous wasn’t going down easy. RiKICKulous’ pitcher, Jason Greene, had an amazing line drive catch, but the real hero was Dan Winnega and his home run in the bottom of the 5th inning. By the time the inning was over, RiKICKulous had turned the tables and were now winning 8-4!!! Winnega, having secured the game MVP trophy, had this to say, “We practiced ridiculously hard this week, especially when it comes to the art of kicking. Don’t count us out for a playoff run yet!” RiKICKulous wins 8-6.

Edora Park Field 2 (6pm)

Bobs Your Uncle (Violet) vs. Kicktease (Red):

The veteran experience for Kicktease became evident in this one early on as Jason “Ballman” Paulman completed a triple off of a bunt in the bottom of the 1st inning. Then Kicktease’s Eric “Double R” Caprarola had a two-run home run to cap off a four-run bottom of the 3rd. Bobs Your Uncle never gave up though—they were finally able to get on the scoreboard after a speedy RBI single by Michael “The Flash(er)” Gallagher in the top of the 6th inning. Unfortunately, it was too little too late. Kicktease wins 7-2.

Edora Park Field 3 (6pm)

Check Out My Big Kick (Maroon) vs. Grassholes (Carolina Blue):

What a battle! Dan Couwlier, the pitcher for Check Out My Big Kick, put in an all-star effort as he tried to contain the offensive firepower of the Grassholes.  He recorded one strikeout and several near misses.  However, the starting pitcher and captain of the Grassholes, Scott Eaton, also recorded a solid game on the mound and in the kicker’s box. Eaton’s two-run home run in the top of the 5th inning seemed to put the game out of reach at 5-1. At this point though, Check out My Big Kick refocused and starting taking advantages of the real holes in the Grasshole’s defense. With some questionable calls by the officials along the way, Check Out My Big Kick was able to come back for the win in extra innings!  Check Out My Big Kick wins 6-5.

Edora Park Field 4 (6pm)

Just Kickin It (Old Gold) vs. New Kicks on the Block (White):

This game could have been close… But the “Bash Brothers” on New Kicks on the Block made sure that it wouldn’t be. Bash Bro #1 Matt Kelly had a bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the 4th inning, and then Bash Bro #2 Brian Jackson had a home run in the bottom of the 5th inning to really put the game away. See the highlight here.  Once the dust settled, New Kicks on the Block wins 7-3.

Edora Park Field 1 (7pm)

Lunchbox Violators (Royal Blue) vs. Where My Pitches At (Purple):

Another close one between these experience kickball squads! Where My Pitches led most of the game, and they even took a 3-0 lead into the top of the 6th inning. Would it be enough???!!! In one word, no. The Lunchbox Violators would go on to score three runs in that inning to tie things up. Then their defense would seal the deal, as Brett Rivers’ diving catch in the 5th and Lindsay Kocsis’s consistency would stave off any more scoring threats by Where My Pitches At. In fact, Kocsis would take home the game MVP award for catching all of the 8+ balls that came her way. Way to go Kocsis! Lunchbox Violators win 4-3.

Edora Park Field 2 (7pm)

Oilers SLTI (Daisy Yellow) vs. Ballz N Dollz (Heliconia):

Ballz N Dollz may not have been on top of the scoreboard in this game, but they were much more likely to find themselves on the ESPN Top 10 play list with all their web gems in this one! John Maznio started things off with an impressive over-the-shoulder catch in the top of the 1st inning for Ballz N Dollz. Then their pitcher, Jeremy Glanzer, struck out a batter in the top of the 5th inning with an 0-4 count. Finally, Dave Wolford for sure made the ESPN Top 10 with two diving catches in the top of the 7th inning. Unfortunately, the scoreboard told a different story—Kickball analyst Deion Sanders said after the game, “Having a little bit of flash, or showtime, is all good and well. But sometimes it’s hard to put that style together with a win on the scoreboard. Unless you are me of course, and you have Emmett Smith and Troy Aikman on your team.” Oilers SLTI win 9-0.

Edora Park Field 3 (7pm)

Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Light Pink) vs. American Made (Sport Grey):

With an 0-2 record, Little Lebowski Urban Achievers were looking to turn their season around with a key victory against undefeated American Made. Amanda Miner and Ben Schisler set the tone early for Little Lebowskit Urban Achievers with a diving catch and an over-the-shoulder snag in the bottom of the 1st inning for two key outs. Miner would later go on to win the sportsmanship award for letting one of her opponents borrow her shoes so that American Made could keep playing. Great job Amanda! Sean Blair from Little Lebowski Urban Achievers would then go on to close the door on any comeback with an RBI in the top of the 6th. Chad Cheshire, captain of Little Lebowski Urban Achievers, had this to say after the game: “I am proud of our team tonight for finally finding our focus this season. We have a high standard to reach if we hope to be equal to our namesakes…” Little Lebowski Urban Achievers win 5-2.

Edora Park Field 4 (7pm)

High Rollers (Charcoal) vs. A Night at the Roxbury (Black):

A high-powered offense like the High Rollers requires an equally tough defense for the game to be close… And A Night at the Roxbury came so close… To having a decent-enough defense to stay in the game. David “I-wish-I-was-the-AI-program-from-the-Avengers” Jarvis started things off for a Night at the Roxbury with a spectacular Willie Mays-esque catch. But ultimately it was the defense of the High Rollers that kept them on top. Their double play in the top of the 6th inning by Kevin “ I-could-be-related-to-Kevin Durant” Gallant and Monica “I-really-hate-Selena” Gomez destroyed all of A Nigh at the Roxbury’s momentum. High Rollers win 6-3.
