Fort Collins - Week 4 - Highlights

City Park Field 1 (5:50pm)

Fortlandia Fartknockers (Heliconia) vs. Where My Pitches At (Neon Green):
This game was all about defensive battles!!! It started when the Fartknocker’s pitcher David Atwood made a spectacular play on a bunt to get the batter out at first. Furthermore, Atwood helped complete a rare three-pitch inning, which is always fun to see on the kickball diamond! On the other side, Aria “Sand Spider” Khosravi showed incredible effort when he laid out and made a sliding catch in the outfield. But the big difference in this game was when game MVP, Spencer Hellwig, blasted a three-run homerun in the first inning, which was ultimately too much for the Fortlandie Farknockers to overcome… Where My Pitches At wins 5-1.

City Park Field 2 (5:50pm)

Kick Pitches Get Money (Sapphire Blue) vs. Kicks From The Bong (Forest Green):
Game MVP and standout pitcher Abe Rodarmel was a difference maker on both on offense and defense!!! It started when he got Kicks From the Bong on the scoreboard after belting a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first! Then he soared high like Michael Jordan to grab a line drive for the third out in the inning (See Here). And lastly, he was able to shutout Kick Pitches Get Money on offense. Kick Pitches Get Money had some back-to-back highlights as well—in two consecutive innings they were able to make three catches in a row to retire the side. Kicks From The Bong wins 8-0.

City Park Field 3 (5:50pm)

Lunchbox Violators (Carolina Blue) vs. New Kicks on the Block (Texas Orange):
This one was a tight one with an exhilarating ending that could have gone either way!!! To begin, we have to give a shout out to Eli “Rumbling” Roth’s balancing skills when he stepped on the ball and managed to stay upright! Later in the game, Paul Baldwin of New Kicks helped thwart a dangerous inning by making a once in a lifetime grab over by first base!!! Despite being behind 3-0, the Lunchbox Violators came storming back in the 7th and final inning, but New Kicks on the Block was able to hold them off. New Kicks on the Block wins 3-2.

City Park Field 4 (5:50pm)

High Rollers (White) vs. Madwire (Tennessee Orange):
RUNS, RUNS, RUNS were all the High Rollers could think about this week starting with them blasting a grand slam that made it look like David Beckham was out there!!! (See Here) The High Rollers were also making plays on defense as well--Michael Hallczuk relied on the help of a teammate when they both caught a towering flyball (my favorite play in kickball)!!! And lastly, even with a busted arm, Monica was out there helping her team out… High Rollers win 20-4.

City Park Field 5 (5:50pm)

Balls Deep (Tropical Blue) vs. Ballz N Dollz (Irish Green):
We had another great game on field 5 this week that came down to the wire. The excitement started early when we had a PICKLE (See Here)!!! While the runs were plenty, it really came down to pitchers--Mr. Curveball James Hartsig and Phillip Alvarado. They both kept their teams in the game, with catcher Bri “Burn ‘em” Beans calling a great game behind the plate! In the end, neither team was able to get ahead. Balls Deep tie Ballz N Dollz 8-8.

City Park Field 6 (5:50pm)

Florida Mike and the Freeballers (Neon Orange) vs. Lewis For Mayor (Dark Heather):
This week was absolutely filled with close battles. Both captains, Renee Vandermause and Niki Weesner, were filling their team with fiery energy! This one was truly a back and forth game--every time Lewis For Mayor would take a lead, the Freeballers were right behind them tying the game back up and even taking a lead in the bottom of the 5th. But a little small ball came into play in the top of the 7th when Lewis For Major did what they had to do to get a run across and clinch the win! Lewis for Mayor wins 4-3.

City Park Field 1 (6:50pm)

Girls Love Big Kicks (Cardinal Red) vs. Team America (Navy):
Captain Brady Anderson and Girls Love Big Kicks came in poised to try and knock off the undefeated Team America and boy was it a good game. The defensive glory began in the top of 2nd when the angel in the outfield, Derek Anderson, went all out making a diving catch!!! Next, Team America broke things open when Tony “two stepping” Martin belted a three run triple! It was really the pitching from Big Ben Burnham that helped Team America secure the victory by shutting out the dangerous Girls Love Big Kicks. Aside from kickball, we would all like to thank Kyle Oldham for his spectacular dance moves out in the field that helped us all stay entertained on this very chilly Spring evening, thereby earning him game MVP!!! Team America wins 5-0.

City Park Field 2 (6:50pm)

Kicktease (Charcoal) vs. High Socks High Motivation (Gold):
What a spectacular display of grace and finesse under pressure for both teams! The game started out on a high note for Kicktease as Greg Kern turned an extremely rare triple play to end the bottom of the 1st inning. By the top of the 4th inning, Kicktease had amassed a 4-0 lead… But High Socks High Motivation bounced back in the bottom of the 4th to almost even up the score at 3-4! Nick Bernhardt from Kicktease made a great catch in the bottom of the 5th inning to keep things close, but soon it was the 7th inning with the game tied up 4-4… Adam Eccher from Kicktease put his team ahead 5-4 going into the bottom of the 7th, but then High Socks High Motivation rallied to win on a walk-off RBI single!!! The High Socks High Motivation Captain, Kelsey Johnson, commented after the game, “We are finally starting to put it together. After a slow start, we plan on finishing strong. Reading the kickball rules definitely helped.” High Socks High Motivation wins 6-5.

City Park Field 3 (6:50pm)

Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Neon Yellow) vs. The Edukators (Neon Pink):
Talk about some zany highlights for the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers! Liz “Tree-Hugger” Wolf started things off by trying to use the trees to her advantage with some carefully placed kicks. Then Jimmy “Slip N Slide” Hebbein had an impressive diving score in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Meanwhile Chad “The Cat” Cheshire and Laura “Christina” Aguirres both had deep, deep, deep catches on the defensive side of the plate. Once again, Little Lebowski Urban Achievers’ crazy antics led them to another victory. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers win 23-3.

City Park Field 4 (6:50pm)

Multiple Scoregasms (Royal Blue) vs. Just Kickin It (Sport Grey): Multiple Scoregasms really came to play tonight… They jumped out early in the top of the 1st inning to take a 2-0 lead, and from there Rob McClellan took over. McClellan hit a home run and two triples during the game, thereby claiming MVP honors on the night! McClellan explained after the game, “I have been really working on my offensive skills in the off-season. 1000 kicks a day. I am just glad it’s finally paying dividends.” Multiple Scoregasms wins 7-4.

City Park Field 5 (6:50pm)

Oilers SLTI (Red) vs. Ace Strong (Indigo Blue)
Once again, the Oilers SLTI were out to prove that they are on a mission to win back the coveted Horsetooth Cup. The game quickly got away from Ace Strong as Sam LaRue from the Oilers SLTI knocked in a solo home run to start the top of the 2nd inning, which ended with a 9-0 lead for the Oilers SLTI. But the real highlight of the night was the tag team catch by husband/wife combo Veronica and Russell Ehlinger from the Oilers SLTI. See the highlight here. Ace Strong never gave up though, especially Susan Hill on the mound… Maybe next time! Oilers SLTI wins 16-1.

City Park Field 6 (6:50pm)

New Kicks on the Block (Texas Orange) vs. Saved By The Balls (Purple): Speaking of contenders, New Kicks on the Block is also making a strong case for the title. They scored in all but one of the innings tonight, and they didn’t give up a run until the 6th inning. Offensive production + Defensive stinginess = a winning formula. Kickball aficionado Drew Barrymore said after the game, “I really feel like New Kicks on the Block could go the distance this season… Going the Distance… Now that sounds like a good name for a movie.” New Kicks on the Block wins 12-2.
