Sunday Funday - Week 7 - Highlights

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (11am)

Roshambo (Lime) VS. Untouchaballs (Dark Heather):
Welcome to our final Sunday Funday of the spring season and our first game of the day. Both of these teams needed a win today to improve their standings for the 5280 cup and they sure did put on a show for us! Roshambo came out strong in the beginning of the game with some serious “D” and shut down Untouched in the first 3 innings. BO also came out of the gate swinging and scored the majority of their runs in the first with 6 of them coming across the plate in the bottom of the inning. They increased their lead with a run in the second and again in the 4th after Untouched finally got on the board in the top of the 4th and brought 2 runs home ending their shut out game. Both teams went silent in the 5th and then both scored again in the 6th with Untouched adding another 2 runs and Bo not being able to match and scored just 1 in the bottom. But it was enough for BO and we would like to give a special shout out to our game MVP Olivia Van Slyke from Roshambo who had 2 RBI’s today and 3 consecutive out in the final inning. Roshambo Wins 9-4.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (11am)

Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Navy) VS. Hose Draggers (Tennessee Orange): Our second game of our final Sunday Funday was crucial for these teams to solidify their rankings for the Cup. These teams really showed their defensive skills today as this should have been a much higher scoring game. Hose shut down Fresh in the top of the first and came up to bat determined to get some runs early and that is just what they did with 3 RBI’s to take the lead. After that Fresh figured out their flaws and held Hose scoreless for the next few innings, but Hose kept up their strong “D” and did the same to Fresh so no one scored again until the 5th. Hose even had 2 very impressive laser throws from 3rd to first in the top of the 4th to not allow Fresh to even get on base. Hose finally broke the silence in the bottom of the 5th with another RBI and kept up the impressive “D” in the top of the 5th after a nice ricochet of the pitcher to first for the out. But Fresh had some impressive defensive skills of their own and in the bottom of the 6th a line drive was kicked right back to the pitcher and the baserunner on first didn’t think he was going to catch it and took off but he was wrong and the ball was thrown to first before he could get back for the double play. Unfortunately for Fresh they went into the top of the 7th down 4-0 and needed a miracle to pull off a win but Hose kept up their “D” skills all the way to the end and once again shut them down for the win. Hose Wins 4-0.

Cuernavaca Park Field 3 (11am)

Gone Rogue (Royal Blue) VS. Ballsagna (Neon Orange):
For our final game of the hour and our third game of Sunday Funday we had our undefeated Gone Rogue against great team in Ballsagna and they sure went at it. Gone came out slugging and with 2 players on base Jeremy Burke came up to bat and slammed a homer to take the lead right away in the first 3-0. Gone held Balls scoreless in the bottom of the first and came back to play in the top of the second. To extend the lead in the top of the second Gary Spetseris team capt. For Gone slammed in a RBI and then Jeremy Burke was back at it again and followed suite with another RBI. It wasn’t until the 3rd that Balls finally scored but Gone wasn’t going to let them have much and only held them to 1 run in the inning. Balls finally figured out their “D” and turned it up in the next couple of innings and there was a shimmer of hope for them in the bottom of the 5th when Josh Utter-Leyton had an RBI to bring their second run across the plate. But that was all she wrote for the scoring in this game and the undefeated Gone Rogue kept their record untarnished. Gone Rogue Wins 6-2.

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (12pm)

Balls and Dolls (Red) VS. Booze on First (Cardinal Red):
Our first game of the 12 o’clock hour was a real nail bitter for both teams and 1 team definitely improved their rankings for the Cup. In the top of the 1st Booze came out swinging and wanted to set a precedent that they were here to play. They brought their first 2 runs of the game home in the top and then shut down the Dolls in the bottom of the inning. Both teams turned up the “D” for the next couple of innings not wanting the game to get away from them. Booze scored another RBI in the top of the third and continued to shut out the Dolls in the bottom. The Dolls also showed off some serious “D” in the top of the 5th when Mark Grimaldi caught all 3 outs to stop the bleeding and end the inning. Unfortunately for the Dolls they just could not get in sync on offense and were not able to overcome the impressive “D” that Booze was laying down today. We would also like to give a special shout out to Booze for some impressive pitching and fielding today and being able to improve their standings going into the Cup with a shut out game. Booze on First Wins 3-0.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (12pm)

Ballin (Purple) VS. Pink Pussycats (Neon Pink):
Pink Pussycats Wins 3-0.
