Sunday Funday - Week 1 & Week 2 - Highlights

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (11am)

Hose Draggers (Red) VS. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Neon Orange): Welcome back to Sunday Funday in the Park and we are looking forward to a fun and eventful season. For our first game of the season we had a really close game and both teams showed up in full force to start off their season right. Both teams turned up the D in the first couple innings and both teams went scoreless. It wasn’t until the Top of the 3rd did we see our first run and it came from Sabrina Hayes on Hose with a perfectly placed RBI. Hose kept up the defense in the bottom of the 3rd and held Fresh scoreless once again, when Hose came back up to bat they did it again. There was another RBI from Hose and this came from a Hayes again but this time it was Stefanie who claimed the glory and increased their lead 2-0. In the bottom of the 6th Fresh finally brought home their first with the help of the legendary catcher TACK and then they proceeded to add another in the inning tying it up 2-2. Both teams were wiped out after this epically close battle and couldn’t score the winning run in the 7th so this game was headed into extra innings. In the top of the 8th Hose had a runner on base and needed to score and none other than the infamous Stefanie Hayes who tricked fresh with a bunt to bring in her second RBI of the day! Fresh had one last chance in the bottom of the 8th but Chad Kasper strikes out to finish the win for Hose. Hose Wins 3-2.

Gone Rogue(Royal Blue) VS. Booze on First(Cardinal Red):
For our second game of the season we would like to give a shout out to Gone for coming in 2nd place at our spring 5280 only losing to Dice which is virtually a win! Both teams needed a little time to get warmed up and didn’t get into rhythm until the 2nd inning when Gary Spetseris pitched a 3 up 3 down in the top of the inning and Gone put their first 2 on the board in the bottom of the inning. Both teams defense started clicking for the next couple innings and we didn’t see a run until the top of the 5th when Dorian Wilson on Booze slammed a Homer to put their first on the board. In the bottom of the inning Gone responded with another 2 RBI’s and one of them came from the famed Cutter Kane to increase their lead 4-1. In the top of the 6th Booze needed to put in some work and guess who showed back up, yep Mr.  Wilson slammed home another RBI to give Booze a chance and make it 4-2. Coming into the top of the 7th Booze was down by 2 and needed a miracle, it never came and that was all she wrote folks. Gone Rogue Wins 4-2.

Hose Draggers (Red) vs. Gone Rogue (Blue):
Captain, Gary Spetseris, started the scoring in this one with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning.  Spetseris would later score, and Gone Rogue took an early 2-0 lead.  Hose Draggers answered right back in the top of the 2nd inning with a 2-RBI SAC fly from Chad Kasper...Hose executed the double score with perfection...it was probably the best double score on a SAC we'd ever seen!  Kudo's to the Hose team for their aggressive base running!  Both teams re-grouped and proceeded in typical lockdown defense fashion for the next two innings.  In the bottom of the 4th inning, Gone Rogue's Nick Aberle, kicked a 1-out SAC fly & Rogue regained the lead.  However, it was a case of deja vu & Hose answered right back to tie it up with an infield RBI single by Angie "the sub!"  Going into the 7th inning we were tied 3-3, and the crowd was anxious with anticipation.  Gone Rogue quietly and methodically showed us all they are still the team to beat, and answered when the game was on the line. Both Gary Spetseris & Ryan Leahey smacked RBI singles in the top of the 7th to take a 5-3 lead.     Spetseris closed out the bottom of the 7th & finished the game with 2 K's...not a bad day at the park for el capitan!  Gone Rogue wins 5-3.

Booze on First (Cardinal Red) vs. Hose Draggers (Red):
It was a battle of the red!  Booze got a board 1st, scoring behind a thrown out runner at the plate as the ball rolled away!  What is there a theme here?  Anyone think aggressive base running is the way to GO??!!  After the early score from Booze, Hose Draggers answered when Chad Kasper scored on an errant throw to finally get this game tied up.  Mid-innings were spent tied 1-1 and the heat was starting to smolder.  Hose had a chance to SAC-score on a Derrick Keeton babablast to right center, however the runner on 2nd left too early & was called out on the contest at 2nd base.  The ticky-tac call, the heat, competitive-behavior, and the tie score was building the intensity of the game. It was "Mr. Clutch," Daniel Martinez, who put Hose Draggers at ease with an RBI single and a 2-1 lead, and suddenly it felt 10 degrees cooler!  However, what made everyone relax, was when the game had the exact same scenario, Derrick Keeton up to kick, same runner on 2nd that left early before, and the same chance to SAC him in.  Keeton took a moment to recognize our opportunity of a "web redemption," and like an episode on Tosh.O it happened.  Keeton babablasted a shot to right center, the runner left on time from 2nd base, AND scored for the "web redemption!"  It was pandemonium, the runner hugged the ref, sprinklers turned on and started spraying everyone like champagne, doves were suddenly flying, and it turned into a party!  Ok, maybe not...Hose Draggers win 3-1.
