Sunday Funday - Week 3 - Highlights

Cuernavaca Field 1 (10:00AM)

Gone Rogue (Royal Blue) VS. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Neon Orange): Welcome back to Sunday Funday and what a matchup we had for our first game of the morning! Gone was up to bat first and they came out swinging. The first run of the game was from Calvin Laue with a perfectly placed RBI for Gone and we were off to the races. Gone put up a total of 2 runs in the top of the first and Fresh Kicks answered back in the bottom of the inning with 3 of their own from one Brad Calloway who had a 3 run homer to take the lead. In the top of the next inning Fresh put their foot down and held Gone scoreless and when it was their turn back up to bat they left it to Brad again who had another 2 RBI’s to extend the lead! In the top  of the 3rd gone got back to rockin’ and scored another with the help of Nick Aberly who had a RBI of his own and then they proceeded to shut down Fresh in the bottom of the inning. It was time for Gone to take the lead and in the 4th they slammed home 4 to make it 7-5. In the bottom of the inning Tony Domenico from Fresh got himself a nice RBI to close the gap on this game. Both teams needed to turn up the “D” to keep this game close and that’s just what they did for the next few innings and both teams went run-less until the 7th. Gone was up 7-6 going into the 7th and wanted to extend their lead to be more comfortable and Calvin helped them out again but this time with a Homer to extend it to 8-6. It all came down to the bottom of the inning for Fresh and they needed some magic to pull this off and they got it in the form of some very unlikely errors on Gone’s part and were able to score 1 and then another and then another to pull off one of the best comebacks ever seen! Fresh Kicks of Ball Air Wins 9-8.

Cuernavaca Field 2 (10:00AM)

Hose Draggers (Red) VS. Booze on First (Cardinal Red):
Our second game of the morning was a real fun game to watch and was a homerun derby type of game! Hose was up first and was able to come out of the gate strong with 2 RBI’s to set them up for success. In the bottom of the inning Booze was able to respond with 2 of their own runs and one of them was our first homerun of this derby and it came from Cayman Hood. In the top of the 2nd Hose was back at it again with another 3 runs and when Booze came back up Hose held them to just 1 run to end the inning 5-3. Hose’s next at bat came with even a little more excitement. They had another 2 homeruns with one from Josh Turner to extend their lead once again. Hose was able to hold off Booze until the bottom of the 5th when they had a 3-run homer to close the gap but Booze was not able to hold off Hose who continued to boot blast after blast. Hose Draggers Wins 15-6.

Booze on First (Cardinal Red) VS. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Neon Orange):
For our first game of the second hour in this double header weekend we had a real defensive game on our hands. Fresh Kicks just coming off a win wanted to keep their streak going and Booze just coming off a loss wanted to turn things around and win one for the day. With both teams turning up the “D” in the first inning and holding each other scoreless things didn’t start getting hot until the bottom of the second when Fresh came up to bat. The first run of the game was an RBI from Joe on Fresh who had a bum ankle in a brace and placed one into shallow right field bringing in a player from third. That was only 1 of 2 runs scored that inning for Fresh and the next one came from Team Captain Brandon Frawley who took the SAC fly to extend their lead 2-0. The defense was back on for Fresh in the top of the 3rd and they shut out Booze once again and when they came back up to bat they scored another 3 to widen the gap to 5-0. No teams scored in the 4th and it wasn’t until the top of the 5th that Booze brought in their first run with the help of Mike Mazzone who had a perfectly placed RBI. The “D” showed up again for both teams and no one could get anything going after that and both teams went scoreless for the rest of the game. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air Wins 5-1.

Cuernavaca Field 2 (11:00AM)

Gone Rogue (Royal Blue) VS. Hose Draggers (Red):
Our final game of this double header was an interesting one with Gone Rogue coming off a disappointing loss in the first hour and wanted to bounce back and Hose Draggers coming off an exciting win in the first hour and really wanted to win out for the day, these teams were going to battle it out. Gone was first up to bat but Hose wanted to set a precedent that they were not going to go down easily and shut them down and held them scoreless. In the bottom of the inning Gone wanted to return the favor but Derrick Keaton had other plans and slammed in their first homerun of the game for Hose and brought another in from off base. Hose then held Gone again in the top of the second and when it was Hose’s turn to bat again in the bottom of the inning there was another Keaton brother who had something to say and this time it was Dewayne who matched his brother with a homerun of his own. Both teams turned up the “D” in the 3rd and no one scored, it wasn’t until the bottom of the 4th did we see any more fireworks and it was Hose again who brought 2 across the plate. We must give a shout out to some great pitching from Hose’s Chad Kasper this game and in the top of the 5th he went 3 up 3 down on Gone to keep them scoreless. In the bottom of the 5th Hose once again extended their lead with the help of Josh Turner who had 2 RBI’s and brought the score to 7-0 and it seemed that this game was getting out of reach for the defending 5280 cup champions. The 6th only brought more heart ache for Gone after once again not being able to score in the top of the inning and once again not being able to hold Hose in the bottom of the inning who scored another 2 runs. Going into the top of the 7th Gone was down 9-0 and needed a miracle to pull off a win.  With their rally caps on, GR started a comeback scoring 3 runs, but it wasn't enough. Hose Draggers win 9-3.
