Fort Collins - Week 4 - Highlights

City Park Field 1 (6pm)

Kick Balls and Kick Grass (Tennessee Orange) vs. Really Really RiKICKulously Good Looking (Carolina Blue):
Really Really RiKICKulously Good Looking thought they had this one all wrapped up after leading virtually the entire game, then came the bottom of the 7th inning… Bum bum bum! Kick Balls and Kick Grass finally ended up kicking more balls then grass and was able to score two runs, but alas, it wasn’t enough… Maka Kalal, Captain of Really Really RiKICKulously Good Looking, commented after the game, “With this win, we are now tied for first! All that hard work in the offseason is finally paying off… Of course, it would be better for my blood pressure to win by more than just one run, but a win is a win!!” Really Really RiKICKulously Good Looking wins 3-2.

City Park Field 2 (6pm)

Kickass Data Nerds (Charcoal) vs. Florida Mike and the Free Ballers (Texas Orange):
Florida Mike and the Free Ballers came out guns blazing in this one, as they scored three runs in the 2nd inning and five in the 4th. However, the real highlight of the game was Vince Rogers’ one-handed catch for the Kickass Data Nerds… See the video replay here! Unfortunately for the Kickass Data Nerds, Florida Mike and the Free Ballers lead was insurmountable. Florida Mike and the Free Ballers win 9-1.

City Park Field 3 (6pm)

Kicktease (Neon Yellow) vs. Ballz N Dollz (Tropical Blue):
Now this was a classic pitcher’s duel! Bri “Big Balla” Beans for Ballz N Dollz and Adam “The Swiss Army Knife” Eccher from Kicktease were neck-and-neck the whole game, but they were also helped out by solid defensive efforts from their teammates. For Ballz N Dollz, “The Dustinator” Clay dominated at catcher with over-the-shoulder catches and double plays to stop several runs from scoring. Meanwhile, Jeremy “Showtime” Schongar from Kicktease also stepped up his game as catcher with several key outs to keep his team in it. Ultimately, Ballz N Dollz was able to squeak a few runs past “The Swiss Army Knife” and come out on top. Ballz N Dollz wins 3-1.

City Park Field 4 (6pm)

A Swift Kick in the Grass (Irish Green) vs. Balls Deep (Navy):
A Swift Kick in the Grass wins by forfeit 3-0.

City Park Field 1 (7pm)

Oilers (Violet) vs. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Sport Grey):
Got to love these rivalry games! After many years of intense contests, we had another exciting battle on our hands. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers let 4-3 after the top of the 5th, but that’s when the Oilers kicked it into high gear (literally). They scored four runs in the bottom of the 5th to take the lead for good. Paul Schwarz, captain of the Oilers, said after the game, “We are taking this season very seriously. After a couple slipups the last few seasons, we really want that first place ranking going into the post-season. Now we just have to keep it rolling!” Oilers win 8-4.

City Park Field 2 (7pm)

Kick It To the Limit (White) vs. Saved By The Balls (Lime):
With Kick It to the Limit desperate for a win, they pulled out all the stops in this one! In particular, perennial MVP candidate Matt Kelly truly stepped up his game, despite some lingering injuries that kept him off the field last week. It came down to the last inning, with Kick It to the Limit nursing a one-run advantage… Then Kelly proceeded to strike out the kicker, before making a double play on the next sequence to end the game. You could hear the crowd go crazy all the way from Old Town!!! Kick It to the Limit wins 2-1.

City Park Field 3 (7pm)

Kickin Grass and Takin Names  (Purple) vs. Merican Made (Red):
After an undefeated regular season in the Spring, Merican Made has struggled to come through in the clutch this season. So it was about time for them to rise to the occasion… Kickin Grass and Takin Names, didn’t make it easy for them though, especially with Josh “The Diviner” Devine’s impressive pitching performance. Finally, it was Billy “The Kid” Colavito’s walkoff single in the bottom of the 7th inning that finally gave Merian Made their first win of the season! However, the true MVP was “Big Ben” Burnham, who pitched a shutout contest with no runners from Kickin Grass and Takin Names even advancing to 3rd base. Talk about rising to the occasion! Merican Made wins 1-0.

City Park Field 4 (7pm)

high rollers (Ash Grey) vs. Where My Pitches At (Neon Orange):
Another pitcher’s duel! That’s like the fourth one this week!!! Pitchers were great, blah blah blah… But everyone was just waiting for Where My Pitches to come apart at the seams again. Instead, they scored the go-ahead run in 4th inning, then held on until Spencer Hellwig made the key game-clinching catch in the 7th that finally gave a loss to the defending champion high rollers!!! See the clutch catch here.  Where My Pitches At wins 1-0.
