Gold Ballerz (gold) vs. Bazinga (red):
Bazinga
had a chance to break this game open in the 1st inning, loading the
bases with 2 outs after back to back walks, but Gold Ballerz’ pitcher Vinny
Nocito was able to get Tim Menditto to swing at a curveball and pop it up for
the 3rd out. It didn’t take long for Bazinga to get their offense
rolling though; after Shane Jahnke led off the 3rd inning with a
textbook bunt single, Nate Kischer brought him home with a single himself and
Matt Howes followed up with an RBI triple. Down 4-0 in the 6th, Gold
Ballerz was able to pull together some consecutive hits for the first time all
game. Qadry Jenkins nailed a 1-out single followed by a Meghan Mannering
single. The mighty Curtis Owens was able to advance Qadry home on a well placed
grounder for a fielder’s choice, putting Gold Ballerz on the board. Bazinga had
the answer (and some) in the bottom half of the 6th however, after a
string of extra base kicks by Nate and Matt, Keith Hausam and Tim Menditto
followed with some RBI singles to bring their run total to 7 and secure the
win.
Final Score: Bazinga
7, Gold Ballerz 1
All My Pitches Love Me
(sapphire blue) vs. Gold Ballerz (gold):
After
struggling in the first game to get any offense going against the stingy
Bazinga defense, Gold Ballerz got on the board quickly against All My Pitches
Love Me. Ryan McDaniel led off the bottom of the 1st with a triple
and scored on a Vinny Nocito sac fly. In the 3rd, Gold Ballerz’
Brandon Wilson nailed another deep triple to right field, followed by an RBI
single by Tommy Lovato. Down 2-0 in the 4th, AMPLM got their offense
going with the top of their lineup pulling together five consecutive kicks to
get on base, highlighted by a booming 2-RBI triple over the right fielder’s
head by Beau Kelly and an RBI double by Sarah Treese. Up 3-2 in the 6th,
Eric Hopfenbeck led off the inning for AMPLM with a solo home run to give them
a two run lead. After giving up another run in the 7th, Gold Ballerz
found themselves in a three run deficit. Chris Maloney was able to score Vinny
Nocito on a single through the infield, but their rally ended on a fly-out to
give AMPLM their first win of the season.
Final Score: All My
Pitches Love Me 5, Gold Ballerz 3
Fresh Kicks of Ball
Air (black) vs. Booze on First (royal blue):
After
giving up a quick run to FKOBA in the top of the 1st, Booze on First
tied it up in the 3rd after back to back singles by Dylan Stoll and
Mike Fann and an RBI grounder/fielder’s choice by Katie Strevey. Booze on
First’s pitcher Marc O’Meara was wheeling and dealing some seriously wicked
pitches that caught FKOBA off guard for the first five innings. In the 6th
inning, FKOBA broke through for a huge inning to take a commanding lead. Ryan
Piper and Rachel Gonzales both got RBI doubles, and every member of their team
kicked during the inning to score five more runs. Booze on First made a last
ditch effort in the 7th; trying to put together a 2-out rally, Mark
O’Meara got on base and Jason Sanders knocked him in with an RBI triple. FKOBA’s
Ryan Piper sealed the game with a controversial call by dropping a catch at
first base, but the ball deflected and still hit Laura Locke before she reached
first base for the final out of the game.
Final Score: Fresh
Kicks of Ball Air 7, Booze on First 2
