Kickin Grass and Takin Names (Carolina
Blue) vs. Freeballers (Purple):
Extra innings were
needed to decide the winners of this veteran-matchup! It was duel of competing
MVP candidates—Luke Birky from the Freeballers and Cavin Shepard from Kickin
Grass and Taking Names. Birky made his case early with an astonishing diving catch
at third base in the top of the 1st inning. But Shepard drew first
blood with an RBI triple to put his team in the lead after the top of the 2nd!
Shepard would then make an impressive catch in foul territory in the bottom of
the 2nd as well. However, Luke Birky could not be denied as his solo
homer tied up the game in the bottom of the 4th! So to extra innings
we went, and it wasn’t until the 9th inning that Kickin Grass and
Takin Names was finally able to best Birky and the Freeballer’s defense. Therefore,
Shepard would go home with game MVP honors and more importantly, victory for
his squad! Kickin Grass and Takin Names wins 4-1.

Kicktease (Neon Orange) vs. Ballz n
Dollz (Lime):
You know the saying “it
takes two…”? Well in this game, it only took one inning to end any hopes of
victory for Ballz N Dollz… To be more specific, it was the 3rd
inning . After Manny Alvarez’s one-handed catch as the pitcher to end a Ballz N
Dollz scoring threat in the bottom of the 2nd, Kicktease came in
fired up for the top of the 3rd. They would go on to score 11 runs
in one inning, which was highlighted by Brian Caffee’s monster three run homer.
Yikes! To quote famed dodgeball and kickball coach, Patches
O’Hoolihan—“Sometimes there is just too much knuckle and not enough ball…” Well
said Patches. Kicktease wins 12-1.

Where My Pitches At (Cardinal Red) vs. Lunchbox
Violators (Neon Orange):
With Where
My Pitches At desperately looking to bounce back from a couple early season
losses, it was going to take a full team effort to dig themselves out of their
rut… And that’s just what they did! It started with an unintentional team catch
in right field by Zach “Da Man” Manns early on in the contest. Then “Kickball
Corey” Palencia got the offense brewing in the bottom of the 5th
inning with a three run homer for Where My Pitches At. Finally, “Oh Captain My
Captain” Jenn Shaw came through with an inside the park home run in the top of
the 7th to seal the deal! Where
My Pitches At wins 7-3.

Benny THE JET Rodriguezes (Navy) vs.
Oilers (Violet):
This one started off promising for Benny THE JET
Rodriguezes with Kellie Ash using her multitasking skills to eat a sandwich and
make the play for an out in the top of the 1st!(We don’t recommend
you try that at home, kids.) But then the Oilers took over, especially on the
defensive side as Adam “The Iron Horse” Morse would only give up one run the
whole game. Paul Schwarz for the Oilers was once again key, as his three run
home run in the top of the 3rd inning really opened up the game for
his team. From there on out, the Oilers signature small ball style as led by
Morse’s highly tuned bunting technique called “The Knox” helped lead his team
to victory. Oilers win 7-1.

Merican
Made (Texas Orange) vs RiKickulous (Neon Yellow):
What a wild and crazy game! With RiKickulous significantly
understaffed, they knew that they would need to really hustle if they wanted to
have a chance… One key component of RiKickulous’ strategy that Merican Made
didn’t see coming was RiKickulous’ cannons for arms—just when it looked like
Merican Made had a clear path to score, then BAM—they would get hit with the
ball for an out (especially Nick O’Connell). Unfortunately, the experienced
legs of Merican Made eventually found the holes in RiKickulous’ defensive
front. In particular, West Busha’s two run homer in the bottom of the 5th
really put things out of reach for RiKickulous. Unfortunately, Tony Martin—who
is used to things being out of reach—had the games lowlight when he injured his
own leg while kicking. We hope you make a speedy recovery Tony! Merican Made wins 8-0.

Flint Tropics (Tropical Blue) vs. Lunchbox
Violators (Neon Orange): After a
well-fought matchup last week, these two teams were back at it again! Pitcher
Eli Roth for the Lunchbox Violators was able to keep the Flint Tropics off the
board early with his patented catch-and-peg technique for a double play in the
bottom of the 2nd inning. But in the 3rd, the Flint
Tropics were finally able to get on the scoreboard with a head first slide for
a home run in the top of the 7th inning by Austin Cole. (See the highlight here.) Then
Meghan Wilson from the Flint Tropics helped keep the Lunchbox Violators at bay
with a team-effort catch in the top of the 7th inning. Maybe the
third time will be the charm for the Lunchbox Violators! Flint Tropics win 1-0.
