Flint Tropics (Tropical Blue) vs. RiKickulous (Neon Yellow):
Talk about down to the wire! With RiKickulous
once again understaffed, they were still able to jump out to an early lead on
Kevin “Ball Busting” Baumgartner’s two run triple in the bottom of the 1st
inning. They were able to stay in the lead through 4th inning, but
then Curtis “Ball Bowling” Burrows jumping catch as the pitcher for the Flint
Tropics in the bottom of the 5th signaled that they were ready to
get things rolling. The Flint Tropics would even take the lead in the top of
the 7th, but RiKickulous would have the last say after Paul “Hitman”
Hueber’s game winning-RBI in the bottom of the 7th! What a game! RiKickulous wins 7-6.

Merican
Made (Texas Orange) vs. Oilers (Violet):
In
a matchup of last season’s championship game, Merican Made wanted to prove they
have what it takes to win this time around. They came out firing and hustling,
even losing some pants along the way. The Oilers hung tough though, and it
looked like they were going match Merican Made’s fire power until a double play
ended the Oilers’ chances in the bottom of the 1st inning. Then came
some real strategic kicking by the Merican Made that allowed them to score five
runs in the top of the 3rd inning, but it was their defense that let
them stay on top. In particular, Jocelyn McGriff’s juggling catches at second
base kept things interesting. (See the highlights here!) The Oilers will have to get healthy and
refocused if they want to stay on top this season! Merican Made wins 12-1.

Benny THE JET Rodriguezes (Navy) vs.
Ballz n Dollz (Lime): Consistent
offense and hard fought defense won the day for Benny THE JET Rodriguezes!
Stephen Poquette’s impressive bunt double in the top of the 6th
inning would seal the deal for his team, but Tasha Brewer’s bullet catch at first
base for Ballz N Dollz was the real highlight of the game. Trent Darrough,
Captain of Benny THE JET Rodriguezes, said afterwards, “Despite our rookie
status, we are ready to make a run for the championship—can’t wait for the
Horsetooth Cup Playoffs so we can really show people what we are made of!” Benny THE JET Rodriguezes wins 4-0.

Lunchbox Violators (Neon Orange) vs.
Kicktease (Neon Orange):
Now those
are some highlights! Corey Bernhardt started things off for the Lunchbox
Violators with a three-run homer in the top of the 2nd that gave his
team the lead. But then Brian Jackson from Kicktease would answer with his own
three run home run in the bottom of the 3rd inning to reclaim the
leaderboard. Eli Roth, the pitcher for Lunchbox Violators, tried his best to
keep things within reach and his four-pitch bottom of the 6th inning
definitely helped. But game MVP honors went to Jackson from Kicktease whose
offense and defensive playmaking won the day! Kicktease wins 9-6.

Where My Pitches At (Cardinal Red) vs. Kickin
Grass and Takin Names (Carolina Blue):
Electricity
was in the air at the outset of this game! The intensity was palpable—it really
felt like the playoffs! Kickin Grass and Takin Names would take the early lead,
meanwhile the defense as led by Rachel McKinney’s diving catches helped stifle
the offensive effort by Where My Pitches At. Then Brady Andersen’s smart
baserunning in the bottom of the 5th inning for Kickin Grass and
Takin Names once again gave his squad the lead. However, the top of the 6th
inning was where this game was really won… First, “Kickball Corey” Palencia
suicide squeeze and slide tied things up, then Spencer Hellwig’s three-run
homer crushed the hopes of Kickin Grass and Takin Names. Hellwig commented
after the game, “Despite some questionable officiating, we really came together
as a team tonight. Now that’s what you call good kickball!” Where My Pitches At wins 6-4.

Freeballers (Purple) vs. Ballz n
Dollz (Lime):
In this contest, we had
a classic pitchers duel. After a sacrifice groundout in the bottom of the first
inning by Tom Torres that scored John Maznio, there wasn’t a lot of offense to
be had. Once again, the pitching combination of Bri Beans and Phil Alvarado for
Ballz N Dollz proved lethal. (See the highlight here—or wait, there isn’t a highlight
really since it was all pitching. Oh well.) Ballz N Dollz wins 1-0.
