New Kicks on the Block (Sapphire Blue) vs. Odd Balls (Purple): What
a test of endurance! If you thought running a marathon was hard, then you have
never played a 10+ inning game of Kickball—now that’s an achievement! The offenses
started off promising for both teams, with New Kicks on the Block scoring a run
in the top of the 2nd inning and the Odd Balls tying things up in
the bottom of the 3rd inning on some great base running by Sarah
“Super bad” Sadler. However, both squads brought the defense too, as evidenced
by New Kicks on the Block’s three-up-three-down bottom of the 2nd
inning initiated by pitcher Jackie “The Fire Thrower” Berezoski. From there on
out, the scoring dried up… And unfortunately it never came back. Can’t wait for
a rematch to really settle things!!! New
Kicks on the Block and Odd Balls tie 1-1.

Wombat Mermaids (Kiwi Green) vs. There’s Always Next Year (Tennessee
Orange): Everyone loves a come-from-behind victory (except for the person
in front of course)… Which is why it sucks when you come up just short. After
taking a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning, it looked like
the Wombat Mermaids were going to hold on for a fairly easy victory. But then
the veteran squad of There’s Always Next Year was able to tie the game in the
top of the 6th inning to really make things interesting. However,
the newcomers on the Wombat Mermaids were able to respond in the bottom of the
6th inning with two more runs, and then wrap up the game in the 7th.
Lauren Melius, Captain of the Wombat Mermaids, said after the game: “There’s
Always Next Year really tested us tonight. We were able to survive despite an
injury to a key player. Dalton—we hope you get better soon! I think they made
us become a better team. Our pitching could still use some work though, so hopefully
our two-a-day practices this week should really help in that department!!” Okay, Okay…. we’ve been known to
fabricate. Wombat Mermaids win 5-4.

Kicktease (Forest
Green) vs. Social License to
Intoxicate (Orange): What a game!!! If this was a post-season contest, it
would undoubtedly be considered an instant classic. It all started with Social
License to Intoxicate loading the bases in the 1st inning, but not
being able to score after a great catch by Kicktease’ pitcher Brian Caffee.
Kicktease held them again in the 2nd inning after Social License to
Intoxicate loaded the bases yet again… Then, with the game tied 2-2 in the
bottom of the 7th inning, the third baseman for Social License to
Intoxicate Tyler Ambrosino caught one ball for an out and then hit a second
player on a throw to end the inning and send it to extras! Finally, up stepped
early season MVP candidate Blake Garrett for Social License to Intoxicate… With
his child in one arm, he was still able to kick the ball out of the park for a
walk off solo home run in the bottom of the 8th inning to end
things!!! Kicktease though should be commended for their sportsmanship during
and after the game—what a class act, despite the soul-crushing loss. Social License to Intoxicate wins 3-2.

Lunchbox Violators
(Daisy Yellow) vs. Left Sharks (Carolina Blue): The Lunchbox Violators came
into this game with an interesting strategy: Lull the Left Sharks into a false
sense of security, then pounce when they least expect it! The Left Sharks had been ahead the whole game
until the top of the 6th inning when the Lunchbox Violators scored
three runs to take the lead… Fans and sports analysts in attendance noticed
that the Left Sharks looked a little sluggish towards the latter innings.
Fitness expert Billy Blanks, of Tae Bo Fitness, noted, “The Left Sharks looked
a little over-hydrated to me. It seems like they need to eat a hardier meal on
game days so that they can maintain their energy level and concentration
throughout the contest. All that liquid isn’t always the best for your system
while exercising.” Lunchbox Violators
win 4-2.
