Memorial Ball Park - Week 2 Highlights

Bazinga vs Blue Balls V: In an early season matchup, both seasoned teams looked to prove once again who the crème de la crème was. Bazinga got an early start in the 1st, as Keith Hausam goes yard on the BBV defense to start a 2 run inning. Not to be outdone, Wes Wilhelm struck back with a standing triple in the bottom of the 1st and was able to get home on a sac fly. The game was a defensive battle for a short time after, as neither team was able to score in the 2nd. Bazinga went on the offensive in the 3rd scoring 1 on a throwing error from the outfield. BBV was searching for offense, but every pop fly that went deep was met by Bazinga’s defense. Bazinga would tally another run in the 4th as it was looking more that runs would be at a premium. That was until Craig Duncan, in the top of the 5th, obliterated a 3 run blast to put Bazinga up by 6 runs. BBV had one last shot to score in the bottom of the 6th, but were stopped cold in their quest. Bazinga wins, 7-1

Pitches Be Crazy vs KickBallers: PBC looked to get back to basics, while KB was looking to get the offense rolling. Neither team wanted to give up early runs, as both teams pulled inning ending double plays in the 1st. KB was able to scratch across 2 in the bottom of the 1st before grounding into the double play. PBC wasn’t too thrilled that they were trailing, and responded in a big way in the 3rd, blasting home 3 to take a 3-2 lead. KB, not to be outdone, retaliated with a run of their own to tie the game up at 3. KB was lighting up the bases in the bottom of the 4th, as Tony Case crushes a 2 run double off the wall in left capping a 5 run inning, putting KB up 8-3. Every offensive strategy PBC used, KB had a better defensive answer, as PBC was unable to score again the rest of the way. KickBallers win, 8-3

Jiminy Kick It vs Brews on First: JKI was poised to make a game out of BOF this week, and both teams came ready to run. Paul Ballweber was on the mound for JKI and he was bringing it to BOF, shutting them down in order in the 1st. JKI used Paul’s energy to their advantage, as they broke the scoreless tie in the 1st. BOF had an answer in the 2nd, as they bashed home a run to tie the game at 1. Both teams were able to score 1 in the 3rd, showing that neither team was ready to give in. Top 4, and Paul does it all as he put away BOF on a sensational diving catch to end the top of the 4th. BOF wouldn’t let JKI score either as both teams went into the 6th tied. JKI had seen enough of BOF that they were ready to put BOF down, and they slam home 2 critical runs in the bottom of the 6th. BOF had one more shot to try to tie the game again, but it was not to be. Jiminy Kick It wins, 4-2

I’ll Cut a Pitch vs Hashtag Balls: In a rematch of a classic title game last year, #Balls and ICP knew each other extremely well and were ready for another classic. #Balls went up to bat against Demetrius Harris, and that wasn’t their idea of fun, as they were shut down 1-2-3 in the 1st. Just to rub it in, Harris goes deep on #Balls for a 2 run home run to go up 2-0. #Balls wasn’t going to go down easy, as they were able to get runners on 2nd and 1st, but the ICP defense caught them off guard for an inning ending double play. ICP looked to bolster their lead, and did so on a sac fly in the bottom of the 3rd to go up 3. #Balls seemingly had no answer, as once again, they were shut out, all the way to the 6th inning. ICP noticed #Balls was getting on base and needed to put the game out of reach, and did so in the bottom of the 6th, with a base clearing double into right field by Wayne Buessing put ICP up 6-0. #Balls had one more opportune moment to get on the board, but a diving catch in foul territory ended the game. I’ll Cut a Pitch wins, 6-0

Basic Pitches vs Left Shark: In the night cap game, we were treated to the 2 highest scoring offenses of the season so far. This week, it was a complete reversal, as neither team was able to put up any offense through 2 innings. BP had a solid defense set up, as anywhere LS struck the ball, BP’s defense were already catching it. Still scoreless through 3, and BP’s defense let LS rest, for maybe sixty seconds, as they got LS to pop out 1-2-3, on 3 pitches. BP was poised to make a run at breaking a scoreless tie, and with 2 out in the 4th, they literally inched out a run beating the throw home by less than a blink of an eye. Left Shark tried everything, and were able to get runners on often, but the tying run eluded them. Top 7, still a 1-0 game, and Left Shark had runners at the ready, but BP rocked them with 2 strikeouts and a pop fly to end this defensive battle. Basic Pitches win, 1-0
