City Park Field 1 (6pm)
Purple Cobras (Violet) vs. My Kick Gets it Done (Orange): My Kick Gets it Done sure had some great defensive plays, including a hat-flipping catch by Brian Caffee and a run-saving throw by Kyle Oldham. But, ironically enough, they seemed to largely struggle with kicking the ball. Once again, the Purple Cobras defense stepped up, and they played a solid game from beginning to end by only giving up one run. Kickball fan White Goodman of Globo-gym noted, “I haven’t seen such a good defensive performance since I used some big red balls to block Peter LaFleur’s attack.” Purple Cobras win 4-1.
City Park Field 2 (6pm)
Lunchbox Violators (Daisy Yellow) vs. Real Housewives of Greely (Maroon): The game started ominously for the Lunchbox Violators when pitching ace Christoph “The List” Schindler from the Real Housewives of Greely struck out the lead off kicker. However, the Lunchbox Violators struck back in the top of the 5th inning on Johnny “Bravo” Craig’s impressive slide to take a 3-2 lead! Then came the bottom of the 7th inning… Trevor “Dinger” Kurzinger from the Real Housewives of Greely sealed the deal with a walk-off home run that made the crowd go crazy!!! It was pandemonium in the streets! Real Housewives of Greely win 4-3.
City Park Field 3 (6pm)
Oilers SLTI (Irish Green) vs. Kicktease (Old Gold): Both teams had impressive double plays, with Adam Eccher from Kicktease coming through in the 3rd inning, and Adam Morse from the Oilers SLTI doubling up the other team as the pitcher the following inning. However, the staunch defense of the Oilers SLTI combined with their small-ball offensive attack quickly gave them the lead. Michael Schwarz, Captain of the Oilers SLTI, commented, “After a rocky start to the season, I think our squad is coming together. Sometimes, when you change names, you lose your identity. But now we have found it and plan on getting that Oilers name engraved on the Horsetooth Cup this season.” Oilers SLTI win 7-1.
City Park Field 4 (6pm)
High Rollers (Gold) vs. Girls Love Big Kicks (Red): The High Rollers came into this game looking to secure a top seed in the upcoming playoffs, but Girls Love Big Kicks had other ideas… Girls Love Big Kicks set the tone early with a bomb to deep right field by Drew Nelson that helped score Taylor “The Flash” Owings in the bottom of the 1st inning. See video of Owing’s impressive base-running here. Then Captain Brady Andersen of Girls Love Big Kicks knocked in two more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning, so by the 4th inning the score stood at 6-0. The High Rollers never gave up though, and they inched back within striking distance by the top of the 7th inning. However, they couldn’t get over the hump. Girls Love Big Kicks wins 6-3.
City Park Field 1 (7pm)
Kickaholics (Charcoal) vs. Where My Pitches At (Heliconia): Sometimes the stars align, and everything ends up perfect. Where My Pitches At came so close to perfection during this game on July 22, 2015… Dayna Lewis from Where My Pitches At started things off with a great catch on a screaming line drive, but the Kickaholics held strong. Cassandra Peifer from the Kickaholics dove and snagged a line drive of her own for an out that lifted her teams’ spirits momentarily. However, Where My Pitches At only committed one error the whole game, thereby allowing the Kickaholics to get on the scoreboard in the top of 6th inning. “Perfect practice ensures perfect performance,” says Kickball guru John Wooden. So close! Where My Pitches At wins 7-1.
City Park Field 2 (7pm)
Ballin Bison (Cardinal Red) vs. vs. Ballz N’ Dollz (Light Pink): At the end of this game, there were three 1s on the scoreboard—but only one of the teams was in double digits. Daniel “Boone” Vogt from the Ballin Bison showcased some great base running to score the first run in the bottom of the 1st inning. Then Dustin “Make My Day” Clay from Ballz N’ Dollz had an impressive reflex out as catcher in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Finally, Joel “Sunshine” Sundeen had an inside the park home run in the bottom of the 5th inning for the Ballin Bison. After all the highlights though, Bison proved better than Dollz. Ballin Bison win 11-1.
City Park Field 3 (7pm)
The Too Legit to Kick (White) vs. Suck My Kick (Lime): All you need is one big inning… Before that breakthrough arrived, we got to see a diving/sliding catch from Dano Hughes and an impressive RBI by Cody Wells of Too Legit to Kick. Then came a four run barrage by Too Legit to Kick in the bottom of the 5th inning that really opened things up. However the true highlight came top of the 7th inning when Nathan Schaffer somersaulted to first, thereby scoring a run in the process. Amazing! However, Too Legit to Kick wins 5-1.
City Park Field 4 (7pm)
New Kicks on the Block (Kiwi Green) vs. Balls Deep (Blue): Now this is what I call Kickball!!! After a triple by Gareth Tabby from New Kicks on the Block in the bottom of the 2nd inning, the score showed his team up 2-1. However, Balls Deep reclaimed the lead by scoring two runs in the top of the 3rd inning, and so they held on through the bottom of the 6th … Then Carly Lewis from New Kicks on the Block stepped up to the plate and smacked home a lead changing double for her team!!! The Captain for Balls Deep, Dillon Flynn, commented after the game, “With New Kicks on the Block being the only undefeated team left in the league this summer, we were really looking to make up a name for ourselves with a win tonight. Maybe if we make our balls go even deeper next time, we will have a chance again…” New Kicks on the Block wins 4-3.
