Memorial Ballpark - Week 4 Highlights

We’ve Got the runs vs Pitches Be Crazy 2: PBC2 and WGTR were both coming into this midseason matchup looking to get ahead in the divisional race. Zack Kennedy got the show started for WGTR with a deep bomb to center field, resulting in an RBI double to go up 1-0 in the top of the 1st. PBC2 would make it an interesting game early, with Hunter Saltzgiver sliding home and safe at the plate in the bottom of the 1st to get up in the game, 2-1. Bottom of the 2nd, and WGTR would show insane defensive team work with an incredible double catch by Paul Emerick and Robert Rocha would end the PBC2 threat. Not to be outdone by WGTR, PBC2 would pull a pop out double play at 1st in the top of the 3rd to end WGTR from getting a run across. Top 4, still a 2-1 contest, when WGTR would make the long ball their friend, but Josh Rodney would go bananas with a deflecting catch in left field to end the inning with only 1 run scoring, to tie the game again at 2 a piece. Paul Emerick would be an all star on this day with 2 critical catches in the bottom of the 4th to keep the game knotted up. PBC2 would load the bases in the bottom of the 5th, but the WGTR defense stood tall and would not allow a run home. Top 7, Mike Mattorano with a diving catch to preserve the tie for PBC2 and stay very alive in the divisional race. Game ends in a 2-2 tie.

Bazinga vs Pandora’s Box: Bazinga was looking ever so hungry for another win, as PB was looking to make an ultimate statement to the league. Bazinga would get on the board early, with big help thanks to an Erik Blessman 2 run bomb over the rightfielders head to cap a 4 run 1st for Bazinga. The pitching combo of Matt Howes and Keith Hausam would kepp all PB batters off the base paths, as they had a combined no hitter through 3 innings of work. Bazinga would use bloop singles in the bottom of the 3rd to go up by 5. PB would break the hitless game in the top of the 4th with 2 singles to shallow centerfield, however they wouldn’t be able to convert any runs. Khloe Keeler would give Bazinga a larger lead with a 2 run single to go up 7-0. Top 5, and a line drive catch by Nate Kischer at 3rd base would keep PB off the board after a bloop single RBI breaks up the scoreless game. Rochelle Lira would make a beautiful diving catch for PB to end the bottom of the 5th, after surrendering 2 runs. Bazinga would ice trhe game in the 6th after scoring 1 more run. Andrew Ciccolini would make 2 massive diving catches at the mound to stop the Bazinga offense in the 6th. PB had one more shot in the 7th to get back in the game, but 1-2-3 popout cycle would end the game. Bazinga wins, 10-1.

Hashtag Balls vs Tuckin With Jenner: # and TWJ came into the game looking to one up each other to get ahead in the playoff picture. # would get on the board early thanks to a 2 run blast by Joey McFly to go up 2-0 in the 1st. TWJ would get on the board with a sac fly in the bottom of the 2nd to get within 1. Te defenses came to play in the 3rd, as both teams were set up and down 1-2-3. # would strike again in the top of the 4th with a single run to go back up by 2 late in the game, after an off target throw home taking down the ref. Top of the 6th, and # would add what seemed like an insurance run, but a ridiculous catch by Jared Reid at the mound would keep # from scoring anymore. Reid would try to be the comeback hero, with an RBI single in the bottom of the 6th, but the # lead was too much to overcome. #Balls wins, 4-2.

Aerotek Ball Busters vs Vicious and Ambitious: ABB and VA were looking to get another win on their resume as we turn to the final stretch of the season. Kate Woolwire would get ABB on the board early in the top of the 1st with an RBI single to put ABB up 1-0. VA would not go away silently into the night, as they would strike back with 2 of their own in the bottom of the 1st to go up 2-1 thanks to the 2 run bomb by Daniel Urquidi. Top of the 3rd, and ABB would use a fielding error by VA to barrel home another run, knotting up the game at 2 a piece. Bottom of the 4th, and with 2 outs, Mike Didion would put VA back ahead with a massive rocket to right for a round tripper. ABB would put kickers on 1st and 2nd in the 5th, the VA defense put on the shift and converted a double play at 2nd base to kill the ABB offense. VA would add another run in the bottom half of the 5th to go up by 2. ABB would continue to put runners on base, but wouldn’t be able to score in the 6th or 7th, ending the game on offense to build on. Vicious and Ambitious wins, 4-2.

Beauties and Balls vs Ballsagna: Beba and Ballsagna would be looking to add on a statement win onto their resume for the playoff push. Brian Pemberton was on the mound for Ballsagna and would shutout the Beba offense in the top of the 1st, while also being the offensive hero with a 2 run RBI single to put Ballsagna ahead 2-0. Beba would come back and strike hard against Pemberton, as with the bases loaded, Beba’s own Mark Knoll would unload the bases and touch them all with a boot to right field that may have well landed in the parking lot to go up 4-2. Ballsagna would begin mounting a comeback in the 3rd, scoring a run to bring the game back within a single run. Neither team was able to score in the 4th, both teams making defensive statements. Mark Knoll would crush the Ballsagna defense again, with another home run to left field, his 2nd on the night, to put Beba up 5-3. Ballsagna would try to score against the Beba defense, but the rest of the game was Beba’s defense stopping kick cold. Beauties and Balls win, 5-3

Blue Balls vs. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air: BB and FKBA were coming off weeks where offense was prime and defense was spectacular. BB would kick 1st, and in 4 batters, they were set down without scoring. FBKA would score in the bottom of the 1st thanks to a masterful display of base running by Lindie Sailor to go up 1-0. BB would get runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the 2nd, however a spectacular catch at 3rd would end the BB threat. Wes Wilhelm would become a defensive mastermind on the mound for BB with a line drive catch to end the 2nd inning. Bottom 3, and FBKA had scored again to go up 2-0, and Lindie Sailor got greedy on the basepaths coming home, and Wes Wilhelm belted her at the plate for the 3rd out to preserve the 2-0 game. Bottom 5th, still a 2-0 game, and Erica Wright kept it that way for BB with a ridiculous catch in center and turning a double play at 2nd to keep the game manageable. Bottom 6th, and Lindie Sailor strikes again against the BB defense with a sacrifice fly to right to bring home another run to cap a 2 run 6th for FKBA. BB had their backs against the wall in the 7th, and it came to no avail on offense, as they were unable to tally a run in the final frame. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air wins, 4-0

HeadShots Should Count vs Balls and Dolls: Both teams came into the week pressing the issue of wanting to be the number 1 contender for the title. Caleb O’Leary got the offensive fireworks started for HSSC with a slide at the plate called safe to spark what would be a 3 run 1st inning. BAD would score in the bottom to keep the game within 2 runs. Bottom 2, still a 3-1 game, and Peter Francik sends a rocket to center for a stand up double and drives a crucial run home to bring the game to a 3-2 score. Kevin Bartlett was on the mound for BAD and set down the HSSC line with 3 straight strikeouts using a soon to be patented curveball. BAD would convert on a golden opportunity in the 4th, catching the HSSC defense sleeping and scoring to tie the game up at 3. Bottom 5th, still knotted up at 3, and Chris Vanwingerden makes a sensational catch along the foul line to keep the BAD offense at bay for the time being. Bottom of the 6th, and this time it’s Joel Vanwingerden’s turn to shine with a running catch while slamming into the foul territory barricade on the 3rd base side, showing that he wanted this win that he’d risk it all. Top 7th, and HSSC was on the hunt, where BAD made a critical throwing error at the plate, allowing Caleb O’Leary and Layla Wojkowski to score and seal BAD’s fate. HeadShots Should Count wins, 5-3

Kick Tease vs Win or Lose, We Still Booze: Both squads came looking for an offensive fight, and one tea would be left standing. KT was up to bat 1st but were unsuccessful in driving home any runs. WLWB channeled their inner team USA offense and blasted home 2 runs in the 1st for a very early 2-0 lead. KT wouldn’t go away silently, as they were able to put runners on the corners with 2 outs, however the WLWB defense stood firm and denied any scoring. Dave Simpson would come to the plate looking like a man possessed and answered with a 3-run blast out to Pikes Peak Avenue to cap a 4 run 2nd for WLWB. Bottom of the 3rd, and Etahn Eaton would attempt to follow in Dave’s footsteps with a 2-run round tripper to cap another 4 run inning to go up 10-0. Neither team would convert on offense, with KT showing life on offense being able to load up the bases in the 4th. Bottom of the 5th, still a 10-0 game, and Kyle Lambert for WLWB would motor around for a stand up triple. Mike Garnett would become the big ticket for WLWB as he converts on a 2 run double to cap off what would be a 3 run inning for WLWB. KT had one more shot to score and score often, but tonight was not the night as WLWB conserves the shutout. Win or Lose, We Still Booze wins, 13-0
