New Kicks on the Block (Kiwi Green) vs. Where My Pitches At (Heliconia): Could we have an upset in the first round…?
The undefeated number one seed, New Kicks on the Block, has had their sights on
the Horsetooth Cup Trophy since the start of the season, but Where My Pitches
At had nothing to lose going into this contest. Cory Palenci from Where My
Pitches At set the tone early by catching three straight outs in the bottom of
the 2nd inning. Where My Pitches At would take a 2-0 lead into the 5th
inning, but that’s when the momentum began to swing the other direction. New
Kicks on the Block relayed the ball from right field to home plate for a key
out. Then came the bottom of the 5th inning when New Kicks on the
Block was finally able to get on the board and tie up the game 2-2. The number
one seed added two more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning,
thereby clinching a spot in the second round. Kickball analyst Bob Costas
noted, “I don’t know how much longer New Kicks on the Block can keep up these
come from behind wins… Talk about living on the edge!” New Kicks on the
Block wins 4-2.

The Ballin Bison (Cardinal Red) vs. Real Housewives of Greely (Maroon):
Real Housewives of Greely win by forfeit, 3-0.
City Park Field 3 (6pm)
Purple Cobras (Violet) vs. Oilers SLTI (Irish Green): The game
started off on a rough note for the Purple Cobras in the bottom of the 1st
when they walked in two runs, thereby giving the defending champions, the
Oilers SLTI, a 2-0 lead. Then Angela “American Sniper” Smith scored two runs
for on a real solid double in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Finally,
Adam “The Iron Horse” Morse finished things in the top of the 6th
inning with a jaw-dropping diving catch after throwing his patented knuckleball
pitch. Everything wasn’t peaches and cream for the Oilers SLT thoughI—Paul
“Speedy Gonzalez” Schwarz is listed as day-to-day with a rolled ankle, thereby
complicating the Oilers SLTI title run. However, in this contest the Oilers SLTI win 5-0.
City Park Field 4 (6pm)
Too Legit to Kick (White) vs. High Rollers
(Gold): Even though this game was a 2 versus 7 seed matchup, the
odds-makers in Vegas were listing it as nearly even odds. Too Legit to Kick had
some growing pains early in the season, but towards the end they had found
their stride with a three game winning streak. Meanwhile, the veteran High
Rollers squad, fresh off their theme week dominance, wanted to prove their
superiority on the field of play as well. The High Rollers led 3-1 through four
innings, but then Too Legit to Kick stormed back in 5th inning to
take a 4-3 lead!!! However, the High Rollers struck back in the bottom of the 6th
inning to claim the lead at 6-4! Too Legit to Kick tried one last time to fight
back, but they could only muster one run in the 7th inning. High Rollers win 6-5.
City Park Field 1 (7pm)
Suck My Kick (Lime) vs. Kickaholics (Charcoal): Kickaholics win by
forfeit 3-0.
City Park Field 2 (7pm)
Girls Love Big Kicks (Red) vs. Ballz N’ Dollz
(Light Pink): Girls Love Big Kicks may be a lower seed, but don’t be
fooled—many analysts are picking them as the favorite in this season’s
consolation bracket. However, Ballz N’ Dollz set out to contain the fire power
of their opponents early on with a great heads-up double play by Dustin “Make
My Day” Clay in the top of the 1st inning. After giving up two early
runs though, Girls Love Big Kicks decided to put on the defensive clamps.
Captain Brady “The Swiss Army Knife” Andersen led the charge with an amazing
reflex catch as the pitcher in the bottom of the 4th inning. Girls
Love Big Kicks fulfilled the initial predictions and will move on to the second
round. Girls Love Big Kicks wins 5-2.
City Park Field 3 (7pm)
Kicktease (Old Gold) vs. Balls Deep (Blue): Now this is what the
playoffs are for—a matchup of equals where just the slightest advantage can
translate into a win. Balls Deep immediately responded to Kicktease’s two runs
in the top of the 2nd inning with two runs of their own in the
bottom of the 2nd after Sarah Halverson’s suicide squeeze bunt got
Balls Deep on the board. Kicktease had some impressive plays too, including a
fingertip snag in right field in the bottom of the 3rd inning by
Sarah McTaggart. Unfortunately, a scoring drought from the 4-7th
innings ultimately gave Balls Deep an insurmountable advantage. Kicktease’s
captain, Adam Eccher, said after the game, “Balls Deep was a formidable
opponent tonight. They took advantage of our weaknesses, and we just simply
couldn’t get it going consistently. Next season we will be less tease, more completion.”
Balls Deep wins 9-6.
City Park Field 4 (7pm)
Lunchbox Violators (Daisy Yellow) vs. My Kick Gets it Done (Orange): My Kick Gets it Done definitely got
violated in this one, and not in a good way. However, they did have the play of
the game when Kyle Oldham completed a triple play!!!!! See the highlight here.
Lunchbox Violators win 14-3.
