Denver - Sunday Funday Highlights - Week 3

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (10am)

Gone Rogue (Blue) vs. Mile High Club (Gold):

In the first inning, Gone Rogue shut down Mile High with a scoreless top half and came back in the bottom with 2 runs to set the tone on Sunday Funday.  Joe Robertson helped stop the bleeding with an amazing over the head catch for Mile High in the bottom of the inning - Joe is back!!  The 2nd inning was an exact repeat of the 1st inning & Gone Rogue had the early 4-0 lead.  In the 3rd, Nathan "Noodles" Newell, from Gone kicked a perfectly placed triple in the third but couldn't get home as MHC went on lockdown defensively.  In fact, both teams were on lockdown "D" for the next couple of innings, but nothing out did Jeremy Burke's unball-ievable diving-lay-out catch in the 4th for Rogue & the out...nice catch Jeremy!!  "Noodles" came close to matching him in the top of the 5th with his own diving-rolling catch in left field...very Noodlesque!!  Then, MHC's Shannon Kossick capped the defensive highlights with her legs, yup, she was too bored to catch the ball with her hands and used her legs instead!!  The scoring started back up for Rogue in the 6th inning when they put up another 4 to go up 8-0.  Going into the 7th MHC needed to put up 8 to tie and 9 to win, and they made a valiant effort scoring 4 runs but it wasn't enough. Gone Rogue wins 8-4.

Banzai Lightning (Yellow) vs. Ballsagna (Light Blue): This was a nitty-gritty game from the start with both teams wanting the win so bad after losses last week. Ballsagna struck first by plating 1 run and shutting out Banzai in the 1st. In the 2nd inning, Banzai went on fire and it was all started by Keely Garcia's RBI single to drive in the 1st run of 4 in the inning!  Ballsagna answered with 3-runs of their own & we were tied up 4-4 going in to the 3rd. In the 3rd, both teams brought another run in and after that, it went quiet for scoring.  Banzai brought in another in the 5th to take the lead and Ballsagna couldn't keep up.  Keely was back at it again in the 7th and brought in the last and final run for Banzai making the score 7-5.  Banzai Lightning wins 7-5.

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (11am)

Banzai Lightning (Yellow) vs. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Green): Today was a double header day and 90 plus degrees out, which equaled being beat up and tired. Brandon Frawley had woken up from his B-Day hangover and Fresh finally had enough players to play a game!  Banzai had just come off a win in the first round of games, so we wondered if Fresh had the energy to match Banzai.  In the first inning, Banzai was all bizzness, got the bases loaded & Chris Crary cleared them with a grand slam!! How bout that for a start off to a game??  Nice boot Chris!  Banzai put up another in the second and would have had more if not for Brandon Frawley throwing a heater to home for the 3rd out!!  Even hung over, the Frawley rocket arm is top-notch...his bodies muscle memory is automatic after playing Sunday Funday for 5 years now.  Fresh didn't score until the 3rd when Tack (he only has 1 name like Prince) had himself a joyous RBI and Fresh had officially avoided the shut out. Chris Crary had a leg of steel on this hot summer day; he had himself another home run in the 5th for Banzai and they ran away with this one. Banzai Lightning wins 13-2.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (11am)

Gone Rogue (Blue) vs. Hose Draggers (Red):

Game 2 for these teams was a lot more compelling than the first meeting as Hose dominated game 1.  Gone Rogue started out firing putting up 3 in the 1st inning with Zach Haynes contributing a 2-run homer.  The next time points were put on the board was in the 3rd when GR's Gary Spetseris made a acrobatic play at 3rd while still managing to touch 3rd base and ran home for the score...very impressive Gary! GR put up 3 in the inning making the score 6-0. In the 4th, Hose got going with a Derrick Keeton smash all the way to the stairs - by rule only got a ground rule double but would eventually score.  Nathan "Noodles" Newell added one more run for GR by kicking a single and then just kept running the bases as Hose continued to miss the magic man.  Hose proceeded to bring in 1-run in the 5th and then 2 more in the 6th bringing the score 7-4 and this game was a lot closer than the score.  It seemed that Hose had all the momentum but ran out of innings as Gone closed them out in the 7th.  Gone Rogue wins 7-4.

Ballsagna (Light Blue) vs. Mile High Club (Gold):

We saved our best game for last as this one was a high scoring, back & forth nail biter! Ballsagna hasn't had a call go their way all season and were determined to get the win, however MHC had just lost their first matchup & we're just as hungry! Both teams came out banging and put up points in the first inning, Ballsagna put up 2-runs and MHC answered with 4.  Maggie Lubanko drove in another run for Ballsagna in the 2nd inning, held MHC scoreless and we had ourselves a 1-run game going into the 3rd innning!  MHC returned the favor and held Ballsagna scoreless in the 3rd and widened the gap by putting up 3 runs of their own...6-3 ballgame.  In the 4th, MHC went scoreless & Ballsagna's Jarrod Sumpter, had a HUGE SAC that scored 2 and brought the game back to a 1-run game...6-5 in favor of MHC.  In the 5th inning, Derek Freeman sa-mashed and 3-run BOMB to give Ballsagna the lead 8-6...nice kick Derek!  MHC's Allie McCoy was the games late determining factor. Defensively she made an amazing throw to 3rd to get the final out of the 5th & keep Ballsagna from scoring, and offensively she drove in the go ahead run in a miraculous comeback inning...scoring a total of 4 runs and bringing the score 10-8!!  Ballsagna had the 7th to work their magic (2 to tie, 3 for the lead), but were only able to plate 1. Either way, this was a great game, and these teams are forces to fear!  Mile High Club wins 10-9.
