Denver - Wednesday Highlights - Week 4

Ciancio Park Field 1 (6pm)

Punani Patrol vs. Balls and Dolls:

Please welcome Mr. Ryan Barno to the playing field!  Barno has come aboard the Punani Patrol crew for the 1st time and is already making his mark!  Ryan has been a major factor in his role at pitcher & at 1st base for the PP crew.  In the top of the 1st inning, we all got to see his POWER, as he booted a 3-run bomb to straight center…nice shot Ryan!!  When your initials are RB, and you smack-a-boot like that, we’ll give you the ‘I’ (RBI)!!  Punani Patrol started the 1st inning firing on all cylinders, scoring 8-runs, and nearly batting through the lineup…now that’s street cred!  Balls and Dolls’ Lead off kicker & new-comer to THE GO Kickball world, Zach Ransom, was impressed with Punani’s display in the 1st inning stating, “I didn’t know this existed?  I mean, I knew kickball existed, but I didn’t know it did at this level!”  Well, he must have re-worked his brain, turned on his own personal “beast mode,” and added in a little “Ricky Henderson” as he led off the bottom of the 1st inning with a home run…welcome aboard Zach!!  In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Patrick Flischel smacked an RBI single & team Balls and Dolls kicked their way to a 3-run inning to bring the game 8-4.  Balls and Dolls were looking to score more with a deep kick to right center that sent Devra Reiman spinning to her right, then to her left and at the last second, looking back over the other shoulder making the snag for the 3rd out!!  Holy Smokes, what an adjustment AND catch Devra…that’s definitely our catch of the night!  Punani’s mojo was sparked for the 5th inning and Eric Mortensen was feeling it!  Eric lined a 2-run homer through the gap that didn’t stop rolling and the team added another run to complete a 3-run inning and taking a commanding 11-4 lead.  While the game lacked sideline calls from referee Tony Lusk, for some reason the game seemed to be clearly called with many explanations!  Lockdown ‘D’ finished this game out.  Punani Patrol wins 11-4.

Ciancio Park Field 2 (6pm)

Dice vs. Saved by The Balls:

The highlight of this game was Dan Linn’s “elf-like” leap to avoid a ball from getting him out at 3rd base…actually, that was a portion of the highlight!  The bigger highlight (to GKB) was that the referee described it as an “elf-like” leap, what is that…we guessed something like this!!??   Amazingly, Dan has a lot more than base running skills…based off the highlights of the game, he batted about twice per inning and had 15 home runs!  No Mike Trout for SBTB this week and that was the difference maker.  Dice wins 1–0.

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (6pm)

The Simpletons vs. Don’t Stop Ballieving:

Jake Holsteen started this Simple group off with a smash, smacking a 2-run single & The Simpletons had the early 2-0 lead…. nice start Jake!!  DSB answered right back in this back-to-back-not-typical-matchup-scenario with back-to-back-4-run-innings!!  Thanks in part to a Shane McBride RBI triple in the 1st & a Dan Berlau home run in the 2nd!!  The Simpletons answered in the top of the 3rd with excellent ball placement and fancy footwork on the bases getting the score within in 2-runs 8-6.  DSB answered in the bottom of the 4th inning with yet another 4-run inning and Dan Berlau was part of the magic again…jeez Dan, teach us how you do it!!  DSB had too much firepower in this one, however Synthia Hernandez and Addison Riley for TS had all the great play magic for the game.  Both of them were great play nominees for the night for their great catch brilliance – you can check them out here!  Don’t Stop Ballieving wins 14-6.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (6pm)

Ball So Hard vs. Step Parents:

Ball So Hard was playing perfect ‘D’ to start this one out, holding Step Parents scoreless for 2 innings due to both Scott’s (V & S – standing for very special) who made diving catches that definitely saved runs from scoring!  In the bottom of the 3rd inning, SP’s Jeremy Wagner decided to make sure the ball was kicked past the Scotts, in fact past everyone!  Jeremy put the 1st points of the game on the board with a 2-run homerun and that ended up being the only runs needed for the game.  Step Parents’ defense was perfect for the game and closed the game out with a shutout.  Tommy Welsh closed the bottom of the 6th inning out with a 2-run homerun which completed a 4-run inning.  Step Parents win 6-0.
