Everlasting Balls (carolina blue) vs. Our Captain Swallowed a Kickball (black):
Final Score: Our
Captain Swallowed a Kickball wins by forfeit
Booze on First (indigo
blue) vs. Head sHot (cardinal red):
The
Caddyshack crew (Booze on First) started the damage in the 1st inning when
greenskeeper Carl (Marc O’Meara) led off with a single and came around to score
on an RBI double by Laura Locke. Head sHot got their offense rolling in the 1st
as well, thanks to lead-off singles by the Watts duo, Christian and Liz. Baylor
Finch would bring Christian home with his big club foot via a sacrifice
fly-out. Both defenses tightened things up after the opening inning, until
things broke open in the 5th. Booze would end up bringing 11 people up to the
plate, scoring 6. Caddy Danny Noonan (Jared Locke) came through with the
biggest kick of the game by scorching a 2-RBI triple (also avoiding the
groundhog hole) helping to give Booze an 8-1 lead heading to the bottom of the
5th. Head sHot would attempt to answer in the bottom half, when Baylor Finch
and Jordan Van Wingerden got lead-off singles, but only Baylor would be able to
score after a series of infield fly-outs would leave Jordan stranded on base.
Booze shut down Head sHot 1-2-3 in the final inning to seal the victory.
Final Score: Booze on
First 8, Head sHot 2
Hashtag Balls (forest
green) vs. Bundt Cakes (tropical blue):
Both
teams came out hot in the 1st inning, as it seems to be the theme for teams
this season: catching defenses off guard early. Hashtag’s Donatello (Joey
McElvy) led the game off with a single, and would score after the next 4
kickers would follow his lead by getting singles of their own, plating 2 total
runs in the inning. Bundt Cakes would fire back against the turtle power, batting
around in the bottom half of the 1st thanks in part to a monster 2-RBI double
by Kyle Pierson. Hashtag’s sensei & pitcher, Splinter (Scott Holewinski)
almost pulled himself from the game, but the turtles channeled their inner
mutant power to help him regain his focus and determination to continue
battling on the mound. The TMNT crew (Hashtag Balls) would claw their way back
into the game, getting 3 more in the 2nd after Casey Jones (Jon McDonald) would
bring home Donatello on an RBI single. Hashtag’s Splinter scored the tying run
in the top of the final inning, but Bundt Cakes got the last laugh in this
battle when Aaron Kennedy blasted a RBI double, scoring Mark Mizell for the
walk-off win.
Final Score: Bundt
Cakes 9, Hashtag Balls 8
Bazinga (red) vs. Kickelob Ultra (royal blue):
Bazinga
struck early and often in this game, and Kickelob ultra got a taste of the
nasty pitching of Matt Howes. In the 1st, Matt did his damage on the offensive
side by getting a 2-RBI double with the bases loaded. Bazinga added to a 7-0
lead in the 4th, after Tim Cornelius and Laurel Smith scored on a 2-RBI single
by Joshua Smith. Erik Blessman capped off the mustache-fueled attack in the 6th
with a solo shot to the fences in deep left field. Kickelob would manage to get
a runner on base each inning, but couldn’t find a way to bring anyone home
until the final inning. Rob Cooper got on base with a walk, advanced to third
on a pair of singles, and finally scored after a sneaky 2-out single by Kaitlin
Piosa. Bazinga closed the door on any more hope of a rally after that though,
getting the next kicker to ground-out to end the game.
Final Score: Bazinga
12, Kickelob Ultra 1
Balls to the wall
(purple) vs. Brews on First (navy):
Brews
on First flexed their huge leg muscles for almost the entire game, getting a
run in all but one inning, while Balls to the wall was left wondering what hit
them. In the top of the 1st, Andrew Mcpherson got Brews on the board first with
a killer 3-run home run. Flash forward to the 6th, with a 10-0 lead, Kyle
Pilipovich knocked another one over the outfield for a 2-run home run. Brayden
Quarry got a solo homer to deep right in the 7th to pad his stats for the
season. Home runs were the theme for Brews on First in this game, as they got
half of their runs from the long ball. Balls to the wall attempted to rally in
the bottom of the 7th, but their base runner was caught not tagging up on an
infield fly-out ending the game with the double play.
Final Score: Brews on
First 14, Balls to the wall 0
