Sunday Funday - Week 4 - Highlights

Cuernavaca Field 1 (11:00AM)

Gone Rogue (Royal Blue) VS. Booze on First (Cardinal Red):
Good morning and welcome to week 4 of Sunday Funday, we are officially half way through the season and teams are shaping up. For our first game of the morning we had a very competitive game and a real fun one to watch. Gone started off the scoring in the top of the 1st and it was none other than Team Captain Gary Spetseris who booted a Homer with one on base for their first 2 scores of the game. Booze answered right back in the bottom of the inning with a Homer of their own to keep it close. After shutting down Gone in the top of the 2nd Booze came back up in the bottom and tied it up 2-2. In the top of third Gone was at it again and broke the tie with another coming home and in the bottom Booze tied it back up with a Homer from Cayman Hood. Once again in the top of the 4th Gone took back the lead and scored another and then it was Gary time on the mound. Gary had some great pitching in the bottom of the 4th and 5th innings which helped Gone hold off Booze and keep them from scoring. In the 5th and 6th Gone added a couple more runs to extend their lead and that was all she wrote for Booze after a great defensive hold from Gone. Gone Rogue Wins 8-3.

Cuernavaca Field 2 (11:00AM)

Hose Draggers (Red) VS. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Neon Orange):
For our second game of the morning we had a lot of fun, Fresh was down players and wanted to play cup in hand and Hose was on a timeline so it was not a serious game at all. Fresh came up to bat first and Joe started us off with a double with a bum ankle and a beer in his hand. Brad Calloway came up next and boomed a homer over everyone’s head and brought Joe in from 2nd. In the bottom of the 1st Hose’s Dewayne Keaton match Brad by kicking a 2 run homer as well, and then Josh Turner came up a little later in the inning and out did everyone with a 3 run homer to take the lead. In the top of the second Fresh scored again to try and keep this game close but Hose wasn’t having it and in the bottom of the inning Dan Martinez added to Hose’s lead with a Home Run. The 3rd inning belong to the ladies and in the top of the inning Tori Leafblad had a perfectly placed RBI double which was 1 of three runs on Fresh’s valiant effort to stay in this game, but in the bottom of the inning Hose’s Stefanie Hayes out did Tori and Homered. After Hose shut down Fresh in the top of the 4th it was time for the Keaton brother Dewayne and Derrick to go to work and they both kicked Booming Home runs. Going into the 7th Fresh was down 12-6 and needed some help to pull this off and Tori was back at it again when she kicked a Homer to shallow right field and just kept running until she got home. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for Fresh and that was the only run of the inning so it was time for them to get serious about drinking in the park and having a real Sunday Funday. Hose Draggers Wins 12-7.

Wednesday Cuernavaca - Week 3 - Highlights

Cuernavaca Field 1 6PM

Punani Patrol (Neon Pink) VS. Put it in the Bunt (Neon Yellow):
Well folks we are in week 3 and almost half way through the season and teams are starting to shape up and show their true colors. For our 1st game of the night we had 2 veteran teams in a head to head battle and it was a real close game. It was a close game through the first inning and a half until Jeff Cornetet the Team Captain of the Patrol came up to bat and blasted a 3 run Homer in the bottom of the second to take the lead 6-2. In the top of the third the Patrol held Bunt scoreless and when they came back up to bat Jeff did it again with a 2 run triple to extend the lead 9-3. In the top of the 4th Bunt was able to bring in another run and the Patrol matched them in the bottom of the inning and made the score 10-3. It looked all but lost for the Bunt but they were able to hold the Patrol to just 1 run in their last 3 at bats and in the top of the 6th Bunt made a valiant run at the Patrol by scoring another 5 runs to come within 2, but ultimately, Bunt came up short and Punani was victorious. Punani Patrol Wins 10-8.

Cuernavaca Field 2 6PM

Isotopes (Maroon) VS. Kickin Uglies (Sapphire Blue):
Our second game of the night was 2 new teams to our camp and they seem to be adjusting nicely. Both teams came out hot and in the top of the first Team Captain for Isotopes started us off with a Homer and then Greg Verzosa followed suite with a 3 run homer of his own to extend the lead 5-0. In the bottom of the inning Kickin’s Team Captain Joe Wykowski answered back with a RBI double and then team mate Cory Bassing followed suite with a 2 RBI single to keep the game close. Top of 2 Isotopes scored another 2 runs and then held off Kickin in the bottom and ended the inning 7-3. In the top of the 3rd the Isotopes once again extended their lead and this time it was Colleen McGrath who had a SAC fly and Patrick Obryan who kicked a 2 run homer. In the top of the 4th Kickin held the Isotopes to just 1 run and it was from Cameron Cox who kicked a single but just kept running and with 3 overthrows ran himself all the way home. The next runs came in the 6th from Greg Verzosa again for Isotopes who had a 2 RBI double for the only scores of the inning. With some amazing “D” the Isotopes held Kickin to the only 3 runs they had in the first and were just a little too much for the Kickin to handle today. Isotopes Wins 19-3.

Cuernavaca Field 3 6PM

Step Parents (Royal Blue) VS. No Rubber Lovers (Tropical Blue):
Our final game of the night was a fun filled RBI game and a couple other run sprinkled in. The Parents started us off with some nice action and it was Nathaniel Perkowski who struck first with a 2 RBI double to left field. Tommy Welsh continued the scoring for the Parents with a SAC fly RBI to right field. The scoring wasn’t done yet for the Parents and Melisa McCullough was in the mix with a RBI single to finish out the runs for the top of the first. The bottom of the 1st gave the Lovers a chance to answer back and that’s just what they did when Tyler Williams put their first on the board with a solo homer to center. In the 2nd we went for more RBI and the first came from the Parent’s Sarah Satrom in the top of the inning and the second came from the Rubber’s Stephen Knight in the bottom of the inning. Nathaniel Perkowski was back at it again in the top of the 3rd and who is “shocked” that it was another RBI in this game actually it was a “2for” to be exact and would have been a 3 run homer if he wasn’t thrown out at home at the last second. Top of the 4th can anyone guess what happened, yep you got it another RBI and this one was Melissa McCullough’s second of the night to extend their lead 9-2. We saw some more fireworks from the Parents in the 6th and it started off with something other than a RBI, it was a Grand Slam from none other than Mr. RBI Nathaniel Perkowski. We would also like to give a shout out to Dominique Hubert who has the fastest legs on the field and not only stole home in the top of the inning but also had an amazing catch in the outfield running virtually the whole out field to barely get there in time in the bottom of the inning. Coming into the 7th the Lovers were down 14-2 and needed some magic to happen to pull this off. First they held the Parent’s scoreless in the top of the inning which was a good start and then in the bottom of the inning they started the scoring run. The first run came from Trey Fisher who had RBI and then Keith Vales had a 2 RBI single and things were looking hopeful. But the Parents weren’t going to let them win and held the Lovers to just the 3 runs. Step Parents Wins 14-5.

Colorado Springs - Week 3 - Highlights

The Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (black) vs. HeadShots (white):
Both teams came ready to show their defense prowess early, as both teams were unable to get any runs in the first two innings. HeadShots broke the ice in the 3rd inning after a leadoff double by Chris Van Wingerden, who then trotted home on a silky smooth single through the infield by Luke Northam. FKOBA wouldn’t trail for long, retaliating in the 4th when Alan Paquin would also lead off with a double, followed by a single by Wilfred Vincent. Erik Martin and Adam Hills later drove them in with a pair of singles to make it a 2-1 lead for FKOBA. In the 6th, FKOBA’s Erik Martin and Jody May got on base with back-to-back singles. Adam Hills and Miles Andrews would later plate them to pad their lead to 4-1. HeadShots just couldn’t muster up any more offense against the stingy pitching of Alan Paquin, leaving FKOBA with their second win of the season to stay in second place in the standings.
Final Score: The Fresh Kicks of Ball Air 4, HeadShots 1

Hashtag Balls (forest green) vs. HeadShots (white):
Hashtag Balls was in full force and ready to ball this week, putting up a 4-spot in the 1st inning against Baylor Finch and the HeadShots’ defense. Big Hurt (Adam Huerta) got things started with a double, followed by a series of singles by Farmer Brown (Jon McDonald), Wicked (Weston Martin) and Dan Z (Jacob Busch), who would all come around to score during the inning. HeadShots’ offense was absolutely shut down by Hashtag Balls’ defense, thanks to some gutsy pitching and defense by rookie baller Dan Z. In the 4th, Hashtag Balls added to their lead after Dan Z booted a double to outfield, scoring Baby Simpson (Maggie McCullough) and Farmer Brown on the play. In the 5th, HeadShots’ Jared Dumont got a leadoff single, advanced to third base after Liz Watts’ single, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Baylor Finch to make it 6-1. The MVP for this game has to go to Dan Z, who went 3-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored and also held his ground on the mound for his kickball pitching debut.
Final Score: Hashtag Balls 8, HeadShots 1

The Freeballers (lime) vs. Bazinga (red):
Bazinga busted the doors open fast, showing no mercy for the new-to-regular-league Freeballers. The top 4 kickers for Bazinga’s lineup stayed true to their game plan by getting on base, advancing, and scoring on deep shots to the outfield. Matt Howes knocked in Nate Kischer and Tim Menditto with a double, and Keith Hausam drove in Matt and Bri Tammaro with a deep sacrifice fly to the outfield to take a 4-0 lead. The Freeballers were retired 1-2-3 by the veteran Bazinga defense for the first three innings of the game. In the 4th, Bazinga’s Matt Howes struck again, this time with a monster triple. Keith would plate him on the next play with another sac fly. Matt Howes was also dealing some wicked pitches, and the Bazinga defense would only allow two runners to advance as far as 2nd base for the entire game.
Final Score: Bazinga 7, The Freeballers 0

Fort Collins - Week 3 - Highlights

City Park Field 1 (6pm)

Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Sport Grey) vs. Kick It To the Limit (White): With both teams looking to bounce back from losses last week, only one team could come out on top! The scoring came early and often through two innings, but then free agent pick up Shane Ishmael and Little Lebowski really turned up the defense. In particular, Ishmael’s awesome diving catch on a popfly in the top of the 4th inning really motivated his team to rise to his level. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers’ captain, Chad Cheshire, commented after the game, “We really focused on our mental fortitude this past week in practice. Not only just offense and defense, but those long meditation sessions definitely helped us concentrate on our ultimate goal—winning the game.” Little Lebowski Urban Achievers wins 9-4.

City Park Field 2 (6pm)

Saved By The Balls (Lime) vs. vs. Kickin Grass and Takin Names (Purple):
We had a one heck of a back and forth game this week on Field 2. It started when Kickin Grass and Takin Names stole a run in the top of the 2nd to give them an early 1-0 lead. They were threatening again in the 3rd but Zach “Catch ‘em All” Koch made a diving catch at the hot corner, that is so aptly named!!! Following this defensive gem, Saved By The Balls cashed in a run of their own in the bottom of the 3rd only for their opponents to answer with a 2 run 4th! Things couldn’t have been any tighter. In the end, it came down to the bottom of the 7th. With Saved By The Balls down 3-2, their legs were working as they stormed back scoring 2 runs in the last inning and ending with a walk off base hit! Captain Jonathon Beening said after the game, “A little inspiration can go a long way in this sport. We got some runners on and made them count!” Saved By The Balls wins 4-3.

City Park Field 3 (6pm)

Merican Made (Red) vs. high rollers (Ash Grey):
Our game of the week featuring the defending champions did not disappoint! The ever dangerous High Rollers’ pitcher Matt “opposite of night” Dea was not only getting it done on the mound, but also with his defensive prowess and diving efforts on the field! In a close battle, Merican Made had ducks on the pond in the bottom of the 4th when a ball was booted sky high and sure to score some runs when center fielder, Tiddy “the titan” Hottovy comes flying in to make a saving catch to get the rollers out of a jam!!! After Merican Made scored in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game at 2, Merican Made first baseman Allen Stefanik showed us his ability to perform a split and catch the ball that got everyone excited for the upcoming Olympics! (See Here) Following a scoreless 7th, this one was going into EXTRA INNINGS!!! The High Rollers jumped on the board for 2 in the top of the 8th, but it was the game saving throw from the outfield by Mike Hallczuk to keep Merican Made from scoring and ending the game! High Rollers win 4-2.

City Park Field 4 (6pm)

Oilers (Violet) vs. Where My Pitches At (Neon Orange):
The Oilers were back in action this week, led by the ever-dangerous Captain Paul Schwarz. The Oilers did not shy away from putting runs on the board. After scoring 4 in the first inning, the Oilers managed to score an additional 12 more throughout the game!!! But they made it count on the defensive side and some standout pitching by not allowing a single run to be scored on them! Oilers win 16-0.

City Park Field 1 (7pm)

Florida Mike and the Free Ballers (Texas Orange) vs. Kick Balls and Kick Grass (Tennessee Orange): This game was a tight one!! Florida Mike and the Free Ballers jumped out to the lead in the top of the 1st inning, then held on for dear life through 6thin innings… Vince Leone (another free agent pick up) had a thrilling diving catch in the bottom of the 4th inning to ensure that Kick Balls and Kick Grass stayed off the scoreboard (See the highlight here!). However, finally in the bottom of the 6th, Kick Balls and Kick Grass was able to tie it up 2-2! Then Florida Mike and the Free Ballers rose to the occasion and scored three runs in the top of the 7th to keep the game out of reach… Florida Mike and the Free Ballers win 5-3.

City Park Field 2 (7pm)

Kickass Data Nerds (Charcoal) vs. Kicktease (Neon Yellow): In a match up of veterans versus newbies, who would come out on top???!!! The newbies on Kickass Data Nerds started things off right with a three run top of the 1st inning. But then Kicktease turned up the defense with Matthew “Keepin it Clutch” Cetuk getting all three outs on his own in the bottom of the 2nd, including a diving double play. Chad “The Ball Cleaver” Cox from Kickass Data Nerds couldn’t be contained though, and in the bottom of the 3rd inning he would notch another home run, thereby giving his team a 5-0 lead. Those Kickass Data Nerds must be onto something with those pinwheel hats… Kickass Data Nerds win 7-2.

City Park Field 3 (7pm)

Ballz N Dollz (Tropical Blue) vs. A Swift Kick in the Grass (Irish Green):
This matchup had a lot of runs in the early going of the game. The Swift Kickers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but it was matched by Ballz N Dollz in the bottom half of the 1st. Ballz N Dollz could have had an even bigger inning were it not for a spectacular diving catch deep in left field by Gold Glove winner John Glaser!!! Swift Kickers’ Kelly “big kick” Boyd showed her defensive abilities in the bottom of the 4th when she made all 3 catches for outs to end the side! In the end, it was Ballz N Dollz that got an early lead and kept it behind the great pitching by Bri Beans! Ballz N Dollz win 7-4.

City Park Field 4 (7pm)

Balls Deep (Navy) vs. Really Really RiKICKulously Good Looking (Carolina Blue): Balls Deep has been so close, yet so far, this season from the winner’s circle… Could they pull through in this contest of equally matched foes?!!? A triple play in the bottom of the 4th inning by Balls Deep certainly helped their cause. (See the highlight here!) But seven innings came and went, and there still wasn’t a winner with the game tied at 6-6, so to extra innings we went!!! Finally, in the top of the 9th, Really Really RiKICKulously Good Looking really really crushed the spirits of Balls Deep with a six run inning… You could see the looks of devastation on the faces of the Balls Deep squad. Kickball aficionado, Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors, said after the game, “I really do feel for Balls Deep. All their games have been close this season… They have been right on the cusp of greatness, and they let it slip through their fingers, just like someone else I know… Poor Klay Thompson…” Really Really RiKICKulously Good looking wins 12-6.
