Colorado Springs - Week 3 - Highlights

The Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (black) vs. HeadShots (white):
Both teams came ready to show their defense prowess early, as both teams were unable to get any runs in the first two innings. HeadShots broke the ice in the 3rd inning after a leadoff double by Chris Van Wingerden, who then trotted home on a silky smooth single through the infield by Luke Northam. FKOBA wouldn’t trail for long, retaliating in the 4th when Alan Paquin would also lead off with a double, followed by a single by Wilfred Vincent. Erik Martin and Adam Hills later drove them in with a pair of singles to make it a 2-1 lead for FKOBA. In the 6th, FKOBA’s Erik Martin and Jody May got on base with back-to-back singles. Adam Hills and Miles Andrews would later plate them to pad their lead to 4-1. HeadShots just couldn’t muster up any more offense against the stingy pitching of Alan Paquin, leaving FKOBA with their second win of the season to stay in second place in the standings.
Final Score: The Fresh Kicks of Ball Air 4, HeadShots 1

Hashtag Balls (forest green) vs. HeadShots (white):
Hashtag Balls was in full force and ready to ball this week, putting up a 4-spot in the 1st inning against Baylor Finch and the HeadShots’ defense. Big Hurt (Adam Huerta) got things started with a double, followed by a series of singles by Farmer Brown (Jon McDonald), Wicked (Weston Martin) and Dan Z (Jacob Busch), who would all come around to score during the inning. HeadShots’ offense was absolutely shut down by Hashtag Balls’ defense, thanks to some gutsy pitching and defense by rookie baller Dan Z. In the 4th, Hashtag Balls added to their lead after Dan Z booted a double to outfield, scoring Baby Simpson (Maggie McCullough) and Farmer Brown on the play. In the 5th, HeadShots’ Jared Dumont got a leadoff single, advanced to third base after Liz Watts’ single, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Baylor Finch to make it 6-1. The MVP for this game has to go to Dan Z, who went 3-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored and also held his ground on the mound for his kickball pitching debut.
Final Score: Hashtag Balls 8, HeadShots 1

The Freeballers (lime) vs. Bazinga (red):
Bazinga busted the doors open fast, showing no mercy for the new-to-regular-league Freeballers. The top 4 kickers for Bazinga’s lineup stayed true to their game plan by getting on base, advancing, and scoring on deep shots to the outfield. Matt Howes knocked in Nate Kischer and Tim Menditto with a double, and Keith Hausam drove in Matt and Bri Tammaro with a deep sacrifice fly to the outfield to take a 4-0 lead. The Freeballers were retired 1-2-3 by the veteran Bazinga defense for the first three innings of the game. In the 4th, Bazinga’s Matt Howes struck again, this time with a monster triple. Keith would plate him on the next play with another sac fly. Matt Howes was also dealing some wicked pitches, and the Bazinga defense would only allow two runners to advance as far as 2nd base for the entire game.
Final Score: Bazinga 7, The Freeballers 0
