Fort Collins - Week 6 - Highlights

City Park Field 1 (6pm)

Kick Balls and Kick Grass (Tennessee Orange) vs. A Swift Kick in the Grass (Irish Green):
Was it the Kick Balls and Kick Grass defense or just simply a lack of offense on the part of A Swift Kick in the Grass…? It’s tough to say, but what I do know is that the offense of Kick Balls and Kick Grass was clicking. Jason Miget even kicked a triple despite slipping on his way to safety. (See the blooper here.) Ultimately, the Kick Balls and Kick Grass offense was too much to overcome as they scored in the 1st, 4th, and 5th inning. Maybe next time! Kick Balls and Kick Grass wins 5-0.

City Park Field 2 (6pm)

Kicktease (Neon Yellow) vs. Balls Deep (Navy):
Another nailbiter for Balls Deep and Kicktease! These teams love to live on the edge. Kicktease thought victory was within their grasp after Matthew Cetuk’s sliding triple put them in the lead 3-1 after the top of the 4th inning. However, Balls Deep would quickly answer in the next inning to tie up the game! Balls Deep would go on to take the lead in the 5th inning and then hang on for dear life. Ryan Smith, captain for Balls Deep, commented after the game, “All these close games have been stressing me out… Good thing we get to chill with an ice cold beer after the game at Road 34 regardless of the final score ;)” Balls Deep wins 4-3.

City Park Field 3 (6pm)

Really Really RiKICKulously Good Looking (Carolina Blue) vs. Florida Mike and the Free Ballers (Texas Orange):
It is only fitting that the teams with the longest names would also go on to play one of the longest kickball matches this year! It was a defensive battle throughout, with the score tied up 1-1 through ten innings… For Really Really RIKICKulously Good Looking, Lacey “The Hands” Hamel made a spectacular catch in foul territory during the top of the 2nd inning. Meanwhile, on the Florida Mike and the Free Ballers side, Vince “Lengthy” Leone made a running snag as the catcher in the bottom of the 3rd and Bryan “The Bulldog” Hardouin saved a tipped catch in the outfield in the bottom of the 8th. It came down to the bottom of the 10th and an RBI from Ross “The Sauce” Montgomery before Really Really RiKICKulously Good Looking could claim victory—and the sellout crowd went wild!!! Really Really RiKICKulously Good Looking wins 2-1.

City Park Field 4 (6pm)

Kickass Data Nerds (Charcoal) vs. Ballz N Dollz (Tropical Blue):
In this evenly matched contest, the defense of Ballz N Dollz really stood out for most of the game. Dustin Clay, Tom Torres, and Issac Wallis all had impressive catches in the outfield, but it was the top of the 4th inning that really crushed the spirits of the Ballz N Dollz… They gave up four runs in that frame, thereby relinquishing the lead 6-5 to their opponents, the Kickass Data Nerds. Perennial MVP-candidate, Tom Torres from Ballz N Dollz then stepped up the plate in the bottom of the 7th and knocked in an RBI, but his team would leave him stranded on base and Ballz N Dollz’s hopes for a victory would be lost as well. Torres commented after the game, “We had a lot of good things going for us in this one, but that mental lapse in the 4th inning really cost us. We will be leaning on our team psychiatrist heavily this week to better mentally prepare for the next game.” Kickass Data Nerds win 7-6.

City Park Field 1 (7pm)

high rollers (Ash Grey) vs. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Sport Grey):
What a game of contenders! Little Lebowski Urban Achievers jumped out to an early lead off of Trevor “Big Swinger” Kurzinger’s double that scored a run. At the end of the 1st inning, Little Lebowski Urban Achievers was on top 3-2. However, Tyler “Cheeseburger” Hottovy for High Rollers reclaimed the lead for his team in the 5th inning by knocking in a double that scored two runs!!! Finally, Logan “Never in a Rut” Rutt made a sliding catch in the outfield for the last out of the 5th inning to stop the bleeding for for Little Lebowski Urban Achievers. Unfortunately, it was too late by that point. High Rollers win 5-3.

City Park Field 2 (7pm)

Kickin Grass and Takin Names  (Purple) vs. Where My Pitches At (Neon Orange):
For this highlight, we are going to quote the play-by-play commentary of this week’s best play: “Here we are in the bottom of the 4th inning, and Brady Andersen steps up to the plate… Meanwhile, the defense lines up ready for the kick. Here comes the fast ball—whoa it’s a hard shot between 1st and 2nd base—AND OUT OF NOWHERE there went Cory Palencia from Where My Pitches At to make the catch! Yowzer! That is definitely going to be on the ESPN Top 10.” Despite that amazing play, Kickin Grass and Takin Names did exactly as their team name suggests throughout the rest of the contest. Kickin Grass and Takin Names wins 7-1.

City Park Field 3 (7pm)

Kick It To the Limit (White) vs. Oilers (Violet):
With the Oilers looking to cruise into the post season with the number one seed, the time was ripe for Kick It To the Limit to shock the world with a huge upset victory…  Kick It To the Limit’s pitcher, Curtis Burrows, had one heck of a game—not only did he keep the Oilers hitters in check, but he also put in an overall impressive defensive effort that included a diving catch on a spinning ball in the top of the 2nd inning! Burrows easily took home the game MVP award, while his team claimed bragging rights until the post season. Kick It To the Limit wins 2-1.

City Park Field 4 (7pm)

Merican Made (Red) vs. Saved By The Balls (Lime):
For awhile, it looked like we might be headed towards a shut out as the Saved By the Balls pitcher had the hitters of Merican Made completely bewildered. Finally, interim captain Allen Stefanik came through to break up the perfect game in the bottom of the 4th inning with a base hit! Stefanik would go on to score his team’s first run of the game on a really impressive slide later in the inning. (See thehighlight here.) However, Saved By the Balls kept things close through the bottom of the 6th on a key double play, so to extra innings we went… Finally, in the bottom of the 10th inning, Nick O’Connell from Merican Made scored the winning run after an impressive dodge at second base. O’Connell’s extra effort was reportedly motivated by his kicking struggles earlier in the game… Way to step it up! Merican Made wins 3-2.
