Denver - Sunday Funday - Week 6 Highlights

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (10:00AM)

Hose Draggers (Red) vs. Mile High Club (Light Yellow): Mile High came fresh out of the gate with some amazing defense! Even though she didn't have to, Kay Kamienski proved it with a double play that left Hose Draggers scoreless in the top of the first. Mile High iced the first inning cake by showing off their offensive skillz, bringing in 4 runs. Hose Draggers came back with 4 runs of their own in the top of the second, but Mile High was not down and out. They answered with 1 run in the bottom to end the second with a score of 5-4.  Then, it was time. Hose Draggers put on the hurt and scored 8 in the top of the third with a nice HR from Dalia. Chad Ferrier brought the "D" in the bottom pitching 3-up-3-down. Hose Draggers scored another 3 in the fourth and once again shut down Mile High, holding them scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth, Mile High temporarily stopped the bleeding by holding Hose Draggers scoreless, but then Hose Draggers returned the favor by doing the same in the bottom with another 3-up-3-down. Both teams scored another in the sixth and Nick Hunt made an impressive high jump to stay safe on second for Mile High, closing out the inning 16-6. Ultimately, heat and fatigue were the true opponents for Mile High, and they just couldn't overcome them. Hose Draggers wins, 17-6.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (10:00AM)

Gone Rogue (Blue) vs. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Green) : This game was a true defensive showdown, with both teams going scoreless in the first. In the second, it took a SAC fly for Fresh Kicks to put up their first points of the game, but Gone Rogue continued to keep their heads up. The "D" for both teams then got back in action and held each other scoreless for the next 2 innings. It wasn't till Brad Callaway from Fresh Kicks had a 2-run homer in the fifth that we finally saw a break in the defense from either team. Julie Lam from Gone Rogue brought in their only score of the game with an RBI in the top on the sixth, followed by an amazing diving catch by Kyle McChesney in the bottom of the sixth. Coming into the top of the seventh, Gone Rogue needed 3 to tie but they were held scoreless by Fresh Kicks. If the ref would have had a ref shirt on, this game's outcome may have been different. We've banned this ref from calling any future Gone Rogue games so Noodles will feel the calls are "equally shitty" going forward. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air wins, 4-1.

Cuernavaca Park Field 3 (10:00AM)

Ballsagna (Aqua Blue) vs. Banzai Lightning (Electric Yellow): This game was a bit unmatched, with Banzai being short handed and a full-strength Ballsagna teams showing up. Banzai was short a girl, which meant they had to start every inning with an out - but that didn't stop Justin Spanbauer from coming out of the gate with a perfect double play to end the first inning. The scoring didn't start until the third for Ballsagna and Matt Peterson had a high flying 2-run HR to show off his warrior-like leg strength. Then in the fourth, Ballsagna's "tall guy in the grey hat" had a booming HR to beef up their lead. Ballsagna closed out Banzai again in the bottom of the inning, still leaving them scoreless. Banzai was simply out-manned and out-gunned on this one. Ballsagna wins, 11-0.

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (11:00AM)

Mile High Club (Light Yellow) vs. Gone Rogue (Blue): With both teams coming off of hard losses in the first round of play, most of our ballers were tired, hot, and needing to turn their Sunday Funday around. Gone Rogue came out swinging and put up 6 runs in the first. Mile High couldn't muster an answer just yet, and the first inning ended 6-0. Neither teams scored in the second and Gone Rogue almost scored in the third when Zack Haynes kicked a single that turned into a triple after 2 errors from Mile High. Amber Kirchner had a great catch in foul territory to close out the top of the inning which successfully kept Zack from advancing home from third. In the bottom of the inning, Mile High finally put up their first point thanks to Phil Nekleton with a RBI single. Both teams turned up the "D" in the fourth and held the score at 6-1, but the fifth brought a different story and a burst of energy. Gone Rogue put up another in the top of the inning and Mile High responded with 3, closing out the inning 7-4. Both teams scored another in the sixth, but that was the end of the scoring for this game. Gone Rogue Wins 8-5.

Colorado Springs - Week 6 - Highlights

Memorial Park #3, Field 1, 6pm:

Kicks N Giggles (Light Blue) vs Schweddy Balls (White):

As we approach the end of the 2015 regular season, both squads came looking to produce another signature win in hopes to create some momentum for the Pikes Peak Cup. KNG really got things rolling early, as in the top of the 1st inning, we get to see a rare back to back home run occurrence, coming off the cleats of Alex Moorhead and Connor Carman, creating 3 runs on the board and a lot of happy customers. Schweddy Balls wouldn’t lay down for KNG, with the first three batters all getting on base with no outs, giving Wes Wilhelm all the motive he needed to jack a ball high and deep to right, all the way to the fence for a GRAND SLAM!!!! KNG would look for answers in the 2nd, as they were having to deal with Wes on the mound as well, but there was no offense to be seen in the inning. Schweddy Balls would go on to score another run in the 2nd to increase their lead to 5-3. Top of the 3rd, and no lead was safe tonight, as Connor Carman, with 2 runners on, boots a ball to right and the right fielder for SB drops the catch, and turns an out into a 3 run home run to give KNG the 6-5 lead. Bottom of the 3rd, and Schweddy was looking to score quickly, but were stonewalled in their efforts with a tip drill catch from Alan Paquin and Alex Moorhead to create a double play and end SB’s threat. KNG would get a big insurance run in the 4th, as Alan Paquin would sac fly to left to give KNG a 7-5 lead. It seemed as though neither team was wanting to give an inch, as there was zero offense in the 5th and 6th innings. Top 7, and KNG would load up the bases with 1 out for Alan Paquin, and he’d get a boot on the ball, but Wes Wilhelm saves the day with a diving stop at the mound and the out at 3rd for an unassisted double play, keeping his team well in it. Bottom 7, and SB needed to score and score quick, and Chris Green would happily oblige, as be blasts an RBI single and on a ridiculous series of throws, comes home himself to tie the game at 7.  Game ends in a tie, 7-7.

Memorial Park #3, Field 2 6pm:

Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Black) vs Pandora’s Box (Royal Blue):

In one of the last interdivisional games this year, we got the pleasure of 2 very different styled teams going at it. FBKA got out to a hot start right out of the gates, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st. PB would get shut down as fast as they were coming up, a 1-2-3 inning for FBKA. FBKA would layer on the runs in the 2nd, as a 2 run double from Tony Case would cap a 3 run inning to put FBKA up 5-0 early. PB needed to score in the worst way, but early in this game was not their time as they were shut down, stranding 2. Moving ahead to the top of the 4th, same score, and Ryan Longan did Ryan Longan things and boots an absolute firecracker to right center for a lead off solo jack to put FBKA up 6. PB was searching for answers on offense, but another pivotal 1-2-3 inning by the FBKA defense kept the shut out alive. Top 5, and FBKA went right back to work on the PB defense, bringing 2 around the bases to bolster their lead to 7. Bottom of the 5th, and the shutout is over, as a 2 run sacrifice at 1st would get PB on the board late, sparking a little momentum, 8-2. Top 7, and FBKA was still not happy they blew the shutout, and they made the PB defense pay, as FBKA would string together 5 runs in the inning to go up 13-2. PB had the top of the order up, and a series of slow rolls from FBKA proved costly as PB would scrape home 1 more run before the final whistle blew.  Fresh Kicks of Ball Air wins, 13-3.

Memorial Park #3, Field 1 7pm:

Bad News Brews (Daisy Yellow) vs Bazinga (Red):

In a game that on paper seemed like a 1st round playoff game, this game proved that anything is possible. Top of the 1st, and BNB got out early and often, putting up 2 runs in the 1st, putting Bazinga in a very unfamiliar spot. Craig Boyungs would attempt to make it 3-0, but a bang bang play at the plate said he was out. Bazinga would settle down and get back to what they knew, as Nate Kischer would high hurdle a ball to avoid the out and score to spark a 2 run inning for Bazinga. 2nd inning, both teams were stonewalls on defense, as both squads were shut down 1-2-3. Bottom of the 3rd, Bazinga looked ready to score, and score they would as they’d bring home the entire heart of their offense, putting 4 on the scoreboard and going up 6-3. Top of the 5th, same score, and BNB would get runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Nate Kischer had other plans, as he’d create all 3 outs, the last being most impressive with a diving stop down the 3rd base line to keep the 4 run Bazinga lead intact. Bottom of the 5th, and it was the Nate Kischer show this week, as he would bomb a 2 run jack to deep right field to give Bazinga an 8-2 lead late. Top of the 7th,  and again BNB would get runners in scoring position, but back to back put outs at 1st base would end the night for BNB.
Bazinga wins, 8-2.

Memorial Park #3, Field 2 7pm:

Sons of Pitches (Ash Grey) vs Hashtag Balls (Forest Green):

This game would have everything we’d expect in a run n’ gun shootout, with 2 high powered offense going at each other this week. But alas, Hashtag Balls was unable to field a full unit to play due to some other circumstances, and would not be able to compete.  Sons of Pitches wins, 3-0

Memorial Park #3, Field 1 8pm:

Hot Ice (Dark Heather) vs Pitches Be Crazy To (Carolina Blue):

In a matchup of 2 heavyweight teams that have made the championship games in the past, this game put everything on the table to get a big playoff push late. PBCT got the show on the road in the top of the 1st with a 2 run single with 2 outs up the gap to give PBCT a 2-0 lead. Hot Ice would look to counter but were unsuccessful in driving the 2 batters they got on base home. Top of the 2nd, and PBCT had a hero in Sara Fields, who would look for a leadoff home run, but would get pegged between 3rd base and home by Alex Koehler and that’s the only offense PBCT had this inning. Troy Martinez for PBCT was on the mound, and he was absolutely filthy with his pitches, forcing a 1-2-3 inning on Hot Ice in the 2nd. Top 3, and PBCT would strike again, as Josh Rodney and Kathryn Close would boom back to back RBI hits to double their lead to 4. That lead would be short lived as a sac fly by Alex Koehler and an RBI single by Caitlyn Beans would draw the game back within 2 runs. In the 4th and 5th, Hot Ice turned white hot, putting down PBCT 1-2-3 in consecutive innings. Bottom of the 5th, and Hot Ice would knot the game up, with a series of singles and RBI strikes from Alex Koehler and Jake Meyer would knot this game up 4. We go to the top of the 7th now, still a 4 all game, and PBCT would turn on the jets and the power and clobber home 4 runs, a 2 run shot by Josh Rodney and RBI blasts by Sara Fields and Marci Conder would blow the doors open to 8-4. Hot Ice would get a batter on early, but Martinez for PBCT would do the dirty work, and shut down 3 straight batters, sealing the win.  Pitches Be Crazy To wins, 8-4

Memorial Park #3, Field 2 8pm:

HeadShots Should Count (Sport Grey) vs Ballsagna (Charcoal):

In the nightcap for week 6, we had 2 teams looking to add just a little more to their resumes for the playoffs. HSSC would get out to an early lead, as Luke Northam got this show going with a 2 run RBI double down the line to put HSSC up 2-0. Ballsagna would look to counter, but Christian Watts was on his game and silenced them 1-2-3. Top 2, and HSSC went absolutely bananas with hits falling all over the field but Ballsagna’s arms, they’d score 5 runs in the inning to go up 7. No matter what Ballsagna would do, HSSC had an answer, as Ballsagna was able to get 2 runners on, but no body home. Top of the 4th, same score, and now it was Braxton Finch’s turn to light the offense, as his 2 run double would spark an explosion, 6 runs coming around to go up a baker’s dozen, 13-0. Ballsagna would get batters on 1st and 2nd, but a pop out and throw back to 2nd for a double play by Christian Watts would spell doom for Ballsagna. HSSC would slow down on offense and Ballsagna’s defense bolstered up, as Ballsagna would only allow 1 run in the 5th and 6th innings. Ballsagna would get a bases loaded opportunity in the 6th to get on the board late, but a bomb by Ross Schumaker would end in the arms of Klint Kane, ending the threat. HSSC would put the icing on the game with one more run in the 7th, and Christian Watts would get 3 straight popouts in the bottom of the 7th to preserve the shutout win.  HeadShots Should Count wins, 16-0

Denver - Wednesday Highlights - Week 6

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (6pm)

Punani Patrol (pink) vs. Saved by the Balls (red):

With the sea of pink and red on the field, one might think this was an early Valentines Day party. But, this kickball game was no love-fest. Punani Patrol didn't hesitate to get across the plate, scoring 1 run in the first and another in the second. Nick Fields from Saved by the Balls slammed a 1-run homer in the second to give his team some hope of being able to hang with Punani. But after watching Punani Patrol run those bases time and time again in the innings to follow, all hope was lost. Saved by the Balls didn't score again, while Punani just kept on bringing it home, even scoring 4 runs in the seventh. Sources tell us that Saved by the Balls is in recruitment talks with all-star athlete A.C. Slater, pending approval from his wrestling coach. Punani Patrol wins, 9-1.

Balls and Dolls (green) vs. Simpletons (black):

This was the game of the night!  The Simpletons got on board first in the bottom of the 1st inning scoring 2-runs on simple-aggressive-base running!!  In the top of the 3rd inning, BnD's unknown booter - Joshua (or we can't read the referee's handwriting), put one in right field for 2RBI's & then came in to score to take the lead. The Simpletons answered right back in the bottom of the 3rd when Misty Gillespie kept the inning alive and Tim drove her home & we had ourselves a tie ball game!!  In the bottom of the 4th inning, Simpletons loaded the bases on a controversial call & then scored the go-ahead run.  BnD answered in the top of the 6th inning to tie the game, then our unknown Joshua was back at it in the 7th to kick the game winning run for BnD!  Nice work Joshua!  Balls and Dolls wins, 5-4

Dice (purple) vs. Step Parents (blue):

It appears that these two teams made a deal: Dice would do the scoring in the first half of the game, and then Step Parents would do the scoring in the second half of the game. Dice jumped right on it and scored 3 in the first inning, while Step Parents honored their word and stayed off the board. With one run scored in the second, and another 6 scored in the fourth, Dice had a pretty solid lead when they handed the reins over to Step Parents. Step Parents revved up their engines to get 1 run in, but that would be the only time their team would cross home plate.  Our advice to Step Parents - no more deals with the devil. (Kidding! We love you Dice! Just wanted to make sure you were still reading.) Dice wins, 10-1.

Fort Collins - Week 6 - Highlights

Edora Park Field 1 (6pm)

Lunchbox Violators (Royal Blue) vs. vs. American Made (Sport Grey): Too bad style doesn’t always translate into runs… American Made had some stellar plays, including several impressive catches by Cody Wells in addition to a jaw-dropping over-the-shoulder snag in the top of the 2nd. The play of the evening though came when Joslyn McGriff from American Made somersaulted through first base. (See the highlight here.) Unfortunately for American Made, you don’t get bonus points for somersaults L Lunchbox Violators win 3-1.

Edora Park Field 2 (6pm)

High Rollers (Charcoal) vs. Ballz N Dollz (Heliconia): After a couple tough games, the High Rollers were looking to bounce back, and boy did they bounce high in this one. Matt Dea sealed the deal for the High Rollers in the bottom of the 5th with a bases loaded triple, and from there on out his team could coast to victory. Kickball analyst Jay Bilas said after the game, “I am picking the High Rollers as one of my dark horses in this year’s bracket. They know how to win, now they just need to put the pieces together.” High Rollers win 9-0.

Edora Park Field 3 (6pm)

A Night at the Roxbury (Black) vs. Where My Pitches At (Purple): What a game! A Night at the Roxbury stormed out to an early 3-0 lead after the top of the 1st inning on a three run home run by Davis Jarvis. (The sun might have given him an assist on that one…) But would it be enough??? Where My Pitches At would finally tie up the game in the bottom of the 5th inning on a score by Ryan Williams... However the MVP of the game this time was Spencer Hellwig from Where My Pitches At—his walk-off run in the bottom of the 7th ensured his team’s comeback victory!  Hellwig commented after the game, “I think our team is really poised to make some noise in the playoffs because we BELIEVE in each other. Pitches stick together!” Where My Pitches At wins 4-3.

Edora Park Field 4 (6pm)

Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Light Pink) vs. Oilers SLTI (Daisy Yellow): Another nailbiter! The Oilers SLTI jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Little Lebowski Urban Achievers were determined to keep things close with plays such as Troy “Sure-armed” Armstead’s diving catch as the pitcher in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Then Little Lebowski Urban Achievers brought the thunder with Trevor “The Ball Slinger” Kurzinger’s base-clearing inside-the-park home run in the top of the 5th inning that gave his team the lead 6-5! Finally the MVP from Fall 2014, Adam “The Iron Horse” Morse from the Oilers SLTI, took over. Morse had a key strikeout as pitcher in the top of the 7th inning, and then a walkoff RBI in the bottom of the 7th!!! Let’s hope for another rematch in the finals… Oilers SLTI wins 7-6.

Edora Park Field 1 (7pm)

Florida Mike and the Free Ballers (Lime) vs. Check Out My Big Kick (Maroon): More close games!!! Despite Florida Mike and the Free Ballers being undermanned, they were able to keep things tight while up against the veterans on Check Out My Big Kick. Brady Andersen’s diving catch in center field in the top of the 4th inning for Check Out My Big Kick kept Florida Mike and the Free Ballers at bay for awhile, but those Free Ballers would eventually tie up the game in the top of the 7th inning. Right afterwards though, Jordan Thompson from Check Out My Big Kick rose to the occasion with a walk-off run following a key bunt (and some helpful errors along the way). See the superbly executed play here! Check Out My Big Kick wins 4-3.

Edora Park Field 2 (7pm)

Just Kickin It (Old Gold) vs. Kicktease (Red): Kicktease wins by forfeit 3-0.

Edora Park Field 3 (7pm)

New Kicks on the Block (White) vs. RiKICKulous (Irish Green): There was an offensive and defensive MVP in this game… But what would win out—offense or defense? Brian Jackson secured offensive MVP honors for New Kicks on the Block with a three-run home run in the top of the 1st inning and a two-run home run in the top of 7th inning. From the other dugout, Franchesca Lata was clearly the defensive MVP for RiKICKulous as she made multiple catches at short stop for outs—jumping catches, catches on line drives, pop flies, you name it. Unlike with championships though, offense won on this day. New Kicks on the Block wins 8-3.

Edora Park Field 4 (7pm)

Grassholes (Carolina Blue) vs. Bobs Your Uncle (Violet): The Grassholes were taking no prisoners in this one as they tried to add to their newly enhanced winning ways. Bobs Your Uncle fought them the whole game though, including great defense in the outfield from Ethan “All About That” Basbiere and a great RBI single by Brandi “The Wo” Mann. However, a grand slam from Matt “The Tiny One” Timmons on the Grassholes in the bottom of the 4th inning pretty much crushed any hope for Bob’s Your Uncle… So close yet so far! Grassholes win 9-4.

Denver - Sunday Funday - Week 5 Highlights

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (10:00AM)

Hose Draggers (red) vs. Ballsagna (light blue):

Sunday Funday started off with a real ball buster. Hose Draggers "literally" kicked off the scoring in the top of the first with Mr. Frank Capobianco slamming in a homer! Ballsagna answered back in the bottom of the first to match them 1-1. Both teams decided they couldn't...wouldn't... have a shootout, so they put the "D" in overdrive to slow the game down, resulting in no scoring for the second and third innings. Derek Keeton had a booming triple in the fourth to bring in a run, then Ballsagna's Matt "Balls On Ya Shirt" responded with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the inning to close it out 3-2. In the 5th, The Keeton Brothers, Derek and Dwayne, along with Mr. Capobianco, got down and dirty to end their top of the inning with 6. Ballsagna came back at them in the bottom of the inning with 2 runs, then tied it up in the sixth with another 2 runs.  Unfortunately for Ballsagna, they couldn't keep up with the deep kicks of Hose Draggers, as they pounded in another 2 runs in the top of the seventh then held Ballsagna scoreless for the remainder of the game. Hose Draggers Wins 8-6.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (10:00AM)

Banzai Lightning (yellow) vs. Gone Rogue (royal blue):

Gone Rogue really went all out for Theme Week, but it was hard to keep track of these Waldo's!!! This was a defensive game through and through. Both teams put points on the board in the first inning, but it sure did slow down after that. The first offensive highlight of the game came from Banzai's Chris Shires when he kicked a 1-run RBI in the fourth to put them ahead 3-2. Heading in to the sixth, Banzai still held the lead and was able to extend it to 5-2 (some may say this was due to a bad call by the ref - we'll defer to the experts in New York on that one.) Gone Rogue made a valiant comeback effort with an amazing catch by 3rd baseman Jeremy Burke followed by another run scored, but it wasn't enough to find a win. Banzai Lightning Wins 5-3.

Cuernavaca Park Field 3 (10:00AM)

Mile High Club (gold) vs. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (green):

Fresh Kicks is usually the team to put the "Fun" in Sunday Funday, and this week was no different. They kept it fresh and ended the first inning with a strong lead of 3-0. In the top of the second, Tack pulled the trigger and hurled the ball for an incredible 2nd out. Mile High Club responded in the bottom of the second with some hardcore defense and an out-of-this-world pitching display from Ashley Velleg, who shut down Fresh's hopes of continuing their scoring streak. In the top of the fourth, Fresh's Kim had a sweet snag at home plate to keep Mile High scoreless. It wasn't until the sixth inning that Mile High finally got to scratch one on the board, but that was their only run of the game and couldn’t compete with the intensity of Fresh Kicks. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air Wins 8-1.

Colorado Springs - Week 5 - Highlights

Memorial Park #3, Field 1 6PM:

Schweddy Balls (White) vs Fresh Kicks of Ball Air (Black):

In a theme week of pure ridiculousness, we had a diamond in the rough game between 2 very formidable teams. FKBA really got the ball flying in the bottom of the 1st inning, as the tag team of Shane Martin and Lindsay Martin sparked the beginning of a 4 run output with back to back RBI doubles, putting Schweddy Balls on their heels early. Schweddy Balls would have the meat of their order up in the top of the 2nd, and got runners on 2nd and 3rd looking to get back in the game early, but a groundout to 1st stalled the SB offense. Top of the 3rd, and Schweddy Balls would find the rhyme and reason to score 3 massive runs with a series of at one point 5 straight batters getting on base, making it a 4-3 FBKA game midway through. FBKA wasn’t too thrilled that SB had rallied back, but Wes Wilhelm for SB was wheeling and dealing as no offense would be mustered. Top of the 4th, and the Schweddy Balls comeback was complete, as the offense would come through for another single turned into a run to knot the game at 4. Bottom of the 5th, still a 4 all game, FBKA was ready to explode and they did on offense as RBI singles from Jordan Eads and Tony Case would put FBKA back ahead by 2. Oh how short lived the lead was, as Schweddy Balls in the top of the 6th inning, the mastermind known as Ricky Favilla puts a boot into the ball for a 2 run ride to tie the game back up at 6. Bottom of the 6th, and FBKA wanted nothing more than to put the game out of reach, as their prayers are answered by the deadly Martin duo of Shane and Lindsay, with Lindsay driving Shane home to give FBKA the late lead. Schweddy Balls would load the bases in the top of the 7th, looking possessed to score again, but a 3rd out pop out by Daniel Watson would end SB’s night and give FBKA the late season win.  Fresh Kicks of Ball Air wins, 7-6

Memorial Park #3, Field 2 6PM:

Kicks n Giggles (Light Blue) vs. Bad News Brews (Daisy Yellow):

If we could sum this game up in one word, that word would be chaotic, as both teams wanted nothing more than to get ahead in their division and chase down the title. KNG would get out to their traditional 1st inning lead, as Connor Carman follows up last week’s performance with another doozy, coming in hot with a 2 run RBI double to cap a 3 run top 1st. Bottom of the 1st, and BNB must’ve taken a page out of KNG’s playbook as Molly Platt does what Carman did for KNG, and booms a 2 run RBI double up th e middle to cap a 3 run 1st for BNB, tying the game. This game would prove to be an anything you can do, I can do better match as neither team allowed a run in the 2nd, almost mirroring kicks and catches. Bottom of the 3rd, and BNB would strike again as Matt Sayar would do the deed, booming a sac fly to left and bringing home a run to go up 4-3. Top 4, and that guy named Connor Carman came back to bat and blasts a solo shot to centerfield to knot the game back up. (See what we mean?) Top of the 5th, and KNG had seen enough out of BNB, and Alan Paquin would be the dagger as he motorcades home from 2nd to put KNG up 5-4 late in the game. Top of the 7th, same score, and KNG would put the game seemingly out of reach, putting 6 batters up and scoring 2 more to go up 7-4. BNB had one last shot at scoring, but 3 straight groundouts spelled defeat.  Kicks N Giggles win, 7-4

Memorial Park #2, Field 1, 8PM:

HeadShots Should Count (Sport Grey) vs. Hashtag Balls (Forest Green):

In the 1st of our 2 nightcap games, we came across 2 juggernauts playing in a game where just about anything went. Defenses were playing extremely pivotal roles in the 1st and 2nd innings, as neither team could solve the offensive puzzle. Top of the 3rd inning, and HSSC would appear ready to strike with rockets off their feet, but Alison Snatchco snatched all 3 balls on defense for Hashtag Balls and would keep HSSC at bay. Bottom of the 3rd, and Hashtag had used some of Snatchco’s momentum, as Scott Holewinsky and Adam Huerta would boom back to back RBI doubles to break up the scoreless affair, 2-0. Top 4th now, HSSC would strike back with ferociousness, as Baylor Finch scores Christian and Liz Watts to bring the game back to a stalemate at 2 a side. Bottom of the 4th, and Hashtag would look for more offense as Joey McElvy comes barreling around the bases and slide home to put Hashtag back up, 3-2. The 5th and 6th innings were quiet on offense for both sides, because the defenses were making catch after catch, too many great things to put here!!! Top of the 7th, and HSSC must have found the switch to their power transformer, as they would ignite the ballpark sky with kick after kick, surmounting in 4 massive runs to go up 6-3. Hashtag had one more tank of gas to give, and Adam Clark would score to get it within 2. Hashtag would put runners on 2nd and 3rd, but a pop out to Nate VanWingerden in center field for HSSC would hand Hashtag a late season loss.  HeadShots Should Count wins, 6-4

Memorial Park #2, Field 2 8PM:

Sons of Pitches (Ash Grey) vs. Pitches Be Crazy To (Carolina Blue):

In the final nightcap game for theme week, we got an absolute gem of both offense and defense on both sides of the field. Bottom of the 1st, no score, as SOP went to work, and Nancie and Jessica Mogge would provide the offense, each nailing an RBI single to go up 2-0 early. Neither team scored in the 2nd, as both teams were invested in getting off the field as soon as possible with 1-2-3 innings. Top of the 3rd, and PBCT knew they needed to score soon, and Josh Rodney graciously obliged with a massive 3 run home run to right field to start what would be a 4 run inning to go up 4-2. Top 4, and PBCT went right back on the offensive, scoring another run and slowly putting SOP out of the game tentatively. SOP was still trying to figure out what to do on offense, as they hadn’t been able to score since the 1st. Top 5, and Hunter Saltzgiver and Josh Rodney again proved to be a winning offensive formula as they each drove home a run to go up 7-2 late into the night. Bottom 5, and the Mogge sisters strike again for SOP as tey each score a run to bring the game within 3. Bottom of the 7th, and SOP would look to get back and win the game, and were able to plate 1 more run in the game, but they ran out oftime, and PBCT prevails.  Pitches Be Crazy To wins, 7-5

Denver - Wednesday Highlights - Week 5

Ciancio Park Field 1 (6pm)

Don’t Stop Ballieving (white) vs. Balls and Dolls (lime)

Matt Cucless’s SAC fly scored the first run of this game for the PAC MAN crew and DSB took a 1-0 lead.  Balls and Dolls looked to answer in the bottom of the first, getting the bases loaded with only one out, but the DSB defense stood strong and held them scoreless. In the bottom of the second, two runs were scored on a Joshua Nelson bloop ball to right field and Balls and Dolls took the lead, 2-1. Balls and Dolls added another run in the bottom of the third, with a RBI single from Chris Brandewie. DSB’s Jeff “The Blade” Lalama placed a perfect SAC fly into the open arms of Steve Perry and brought the game to 3-2. Chris Brandewie made the highlight reel again by smacking an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to keep Balls and Dolls in the lead at 4-2 – nice work Chris! In the bottom of the fifth, DSB made a great play at 2nd, but the runner at 3rd scored for Balls and Dolls, increasing their lead to 5-2. In the top of the sixth, DSB’s Shane McBride had an RBI single to pull within 2. From there, both teams went on lockdown D and that’s all she wrote, folks! Balls and Dolls win 5-3.

Ciancio Park Field 2 (6pm)

Dice (Purple) vs. Punani Patrol (Pink):

Dice started out in typical fashion, scoring 1 in the top of the first and were looking to score more…however, an over-the-head kick from Eric Mortensen to Haley Rohr for the tag-out at home made ESPN’s top ten, we’re just sure of it! Big John started a 4-run inning for Dice with a RBI single and this gave DICE a 5-0 lead. Dice added one run in the 6th and pitcher John Anderson shut out the PP crew.  Dice wins 6-0.

Cuernavaca Park Field 1 (6pm)

Saved By the Balls (Red) vs. Step Parents (Royal Blue):

Jeremy Wagner continued his quest for MVP status with a home run in the second for Step Parents. The Backhanders layed the beat down early and had an astounding 13 runs by the fourth inning...now that's just abusive...call Child Protective Services!  They would’ve scored more but Balls’ Ryan Manley had a great diving catch and put the belt back in the belt loops! Texas Chris Roberts homer’d in the sixth to put the cherry on top of this banana split. Step Parents win 15-0.

Cuernavaca Park Field 2 (6pm)

Ball So Hard (Green) vs. The Simpletons (Black):

Chad “Uncle Sam” Wells and Dani “Sassy Socks” Row made the magic happen for Ball So Hard and scored 2 in the top of the first inning to take a commanding 2-0 lead right off the bat – or should we say, foot? In the bottom of the second, The Simpletons’ Misty “Elvira” Gillespie wham-bam-thank-you-mam’d (need we say more??) to score their first run of the game. In the top of the third, “Uncle Sam” was at it again, shooting fireworks into the stands with an RBI triple to take a 3-1 lead. The Simpleton’s went on a soft-kitty scoring spree in the bottom of the fourth scoring 3 runs and taking the lead 4-3. Pretty simple, ain’t it! Ball So Hard answered in the top of the fifth with 3 runs of their own, now taking the lead back 6-4. In the bottom of the sixth, The Simpletons were down 7-4 until Jake Holsteen’s double started a 4-run streak to take the lead. The media’s attention turned from Peyton Manning’s skinny legs to The Simpleton’s comeback. Call it a comeback, kids, as this was The Simpleton’s first win of the season! The Simpletons win 8-7.

Fort Collins - Week 5 - Highlights

Edora Park Field 1 (6pm)

New Kicks on the Block (White) vs. Check Out My Big Kick (Maroon)

In this evenly matched contest, there could only be one victor! And that victor was… wait for it… New Kicks on the Block jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Check Out My Big Kick would go on to tie things up in the bottom of the 3rd inning before taking a 3-2 lead after the bottom of the 4th. Then Heather Cox from Check Out My Big Kick closed out the game with a diving catch in left field. Captain of Check Out My Big Kick, Shannon Haggerty, said after the game, “Our team had a rough season this past summer, but with a few key free agent acquisitions, we have been able to find our form. Now, we are coming for that Horsetooth Cup!!!”  Check Out My Big Kick wins 3-2.

Edora Park Field 2 (6pm)

RiKICKulous (Irish Green) vs. Kicktease (Red):

The costumed crusaders in this game made for an interesting match up—who would win in a challenge between the Colors of the Rainbow (RiKICKulous) and Halloween Stereotypes (Kicktease)? RiKICKulous stormed out to the early lead on an inside the park home run by Joe Bohn in the top of the 3rd inning. But Kicktease’s huge rally in bottom of the 3rd ultimately gave them the lead for good. Kickball Analyst and big Halloween fan Freddy Krueger commented after the game, “Those Halloween aficionados on Kicktease just barely got the best of those Rainbows from RiKICKulous—no more pot of gold for them!” Kicktease wins 7-6.

Edora Park Field 3 (6pm)

Florida Mike and the Free Ballers (Lime) vs. Grassholes (Carolina Blue):

The Grassholes, looking to bounce back from two losses in a row, weren’t going to take anything for granted in this one. However, Florida Mike and the Free Ballers weren’t going down too easy either. Mitch “Free Ballin” Murray, had a great diving catch in the top of the 3rd to keep things manageable. However, the Grassholes’ Mitch “No Ballin” Buchner’s leadoff triple in the top of the 4th inning was a bad omen for Florida Mike and the Free Ballers going forward. Then Steven “Extra Ballin” Warren from the Grassholes gunned down a runner from the outfield to save a score in a bottom of the 4th that sent a message—there would be no comebacks this time! Grassholes win 9-3.

Edora Park Field 4 (6pm)

Just Kickin It (Old Gold) vs. Bobs Your Uncle (Violet):

Talk about an MVP performance!!! Despite Just Kickin It really kicking the crap out of the ball for a total of 13 runs, the pitcher for Bobs Your Uncle, Michael Gallagher, turned in his best overall performance of the season! Gallagher completed a double play in in the first inning, a home run in the 3rd, and a golden glove play to shut down a suicide squeeze attempt in the 5th inning. Unfortunately, Just Kickin It was too powerful despite Gallagher’s all-star performance. Just Kickin It wins 13-4.

Edora Park Field 1 (7pm)

A Night at the Roxbury (Black) vs. American Made (Sport Grey):

The Troll Dolls on A Night at the Roxbury thought they had this one in the bag—they were winning all the way through the top of the 7th inning until Cameron Ayers from the American Hunters on American Made’s squad hit a sacrifice fly ball with the bases loaded to win the game!!! Maybe if troll dolls were actually made in America, they would have had a better chance to win this one… American Made’s captain, Tony Martin, only had one thing to say after the game: “Go America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” American Made wins 4-3.

Edora Park Field 2 (7pm)

Where My Pitches At (Purple) vs. Ballz N Dollz (Heliconia):

In a whacky and wild game featuring Halloween Candy (Ballz N Dollz) facing off against Harry Potter (Where My Pitches At), anything could happen! Once again, Ryan Williams from Where My Pitches At earned MVP honors as “Sexy” Harry Potter due to his sure hands and cannon for an arm. Once the Golden Snitch scored for Where My Pitches At though, the game was all but over… (See the highlight here.) Unfortunately, that still only counted for one run in kickball. Where My Pitches at wins 4-0.

Edora Park Field 3 (7pm)

Lunchbox Violators (Royal Blue) vs. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Light Pink):

Now this was a defensive battle for both teams! Eli “The Brick Wall” Roth from the Lunchbox Violators had a great stretching catch in the top of the 1st inning. Then Brian “The Shield” Strock from the Lunchbox Violators made a fingertip grab at first in the top of the 5th inning. And finally, Dane “The Iron Cane” Anderson from Little Lebowski Urban Achievers completed a double play to end the inning in the bottom of the 5th. Ironically enough, even though the Lunchbox Violators dressed up as the Harlem Globetrotters, the final score made them seem more like the Washington Generals despite the fact that they had been winning from the 1st through the 6th innings. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers win 2-1.

Edora Park Field 4 (7pm)

Oilers SLTI (Daisy Yellow) vs. High Rollers (Charcoal):

The game plan going into this one for the Oilers SLIT was to get on top early, and then cruise to victory with their defense. After scoring three runs in the top of the 1st inning, substitute starter Garret Dean from the Oilers SLTI made a diving catch for an out that set the defensive tone for the rest of the game. (See the highlight here.) For the High Rollers, they looked more like Halloween victims than Halloween killers in this contest… But don’t count them out yet—they still have a chance to come back from the dead and make a run at the Horsetooth Cup! Oilers SLTI win 6-2.
