Sunday Funday - Cuernavaca Park - Week 6 and 7 Highlights

Shinobi Dragon Ninja vs. Star Spangled Hammered

Hammered would score first in this contest with one run in the bottom of the opening inning. The next two innings would be good defense by both teams and remain 1-0. Then in the bottom of the 4th inning Hammered was at it again. They wore down the Ninja D and scored four runs. Hammered would also score one more in the bottom of the 5th inning to extend their lead to 6-0. Finally in the top of the 7th inning, the Ninja offense finally woke up. They pelted some nice kicks and mustered two runs to end the shutout and make this one respectable. Star Spangled Hammered wins, 6-2.

After School Special vs. Booze on First

The Booze were definitely on first in this one, along with the other bases as well. They scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. One of those runs was produced when Cayman Hood bombed a RBI triple. Booze would keep that offensive momentum going in the bottom of the 2nd inning and score two more runs. They would then get some stellar defense from first base woman Lauren Zoeller. She turned a sweet little double play to stop the Special's rally at one run. Booze would go one to score their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off two back to back RBI blasts. Booze on First wins, 6-1.

Untouchaballs vs. Kevin Bacon

Untouchaballs started this show with a big boot from Brian Archibald. He belted a RBI triple in the top of the 1st inning. He would later score their second run of the inning to make it 2-0. Then in the top of the 3rd inning the Balls would score two more runs. One of which came off another triple from Archibald. The Balls would score their final two runs in the top of the 4th inning off a double by Eric Chapel. It wasn't until the bottom of the 5th inning that Bacon started scoring. In that inning they got their first run off a RBI bunt by Betsy Feigher. Then they would get their second run in the bottom of the 7th inning off a RBI blast by Molly Torrance. In the end it was too much Balls. Untouchaballs win, 6-2.

Round 2

After School Special vs. Untouchaballs

Balls picked up right where they left off the first game with two RBI's from Emily Googel in the bottom of the 1st inning. They would get two more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning off a Matt Hardman two run HR. Balls finished off their scoring in the 4th inning with three runs. One of those runs was driven in off a big triple from Mike. A shot out has to go out to the Untouchaballs pitcher,Tim "Ewing" Gilchrest. Not only did he pitch a complete game shut out but he locked up a young lady with an engagement!  Nicely done Mr. Ewing.  Untouchaballs win 7-0.

Kevin Bacon vs. Shinobi Dragon Ninja

This was one of the closest games of the day. Both teams started out playing some excellent defense and as a result the first two innings were scoreless. Then in the top of the 3rd inning Bacon cracked the Ninja D and put up two runs. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Bacon's catcher Jillian Wohlfarth was responsible for two big outs and keeping the shut out intact. Bacon would keep the bottom of the 4th scoreless with two stellar outs from their pitcher Matt Urban. Finally, in the bottom of the 5th inning, the Ninjas got on the board. They got a HUGE three run home run from Nick Wolf which gave them the lead. Bacon would not go quietly into the night and mustered up three runs in the top of the 6th inning. Ninjas would try to match their offense but could only bring one run across the plate . That would be all the offense in this one. Kevin Bacon wins, 5-4.

Star Spangled Hammered vs. Booze on First

Booze scored first in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Their Mike Brown booted in an RBI to give his team a 1-0 lead. The score would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the 4th inning when Cayman pelted a solo home run. Although Hammered couldn't find their offense on this day, they did bring some BIG D. The best was in the bottom of the 4th inning when Matt Remacle made a badass, beer-in-hand catch and from there it was all snooze and booze!! Booze on First wins 2-0.

Round 3

Dice vs. Ballsagna

Dice scored first in the top of the 1st inning. Ballsagna would answer that with a single run of their own in the bottom of the 2nd inning and prolly got hosed on a run with an amazing BLAST by Mat Peterson. After a scoreless 3rd inning from both teams, Dice's offense found their grove in the 4th. They scored two runs off of two solo home runs, one from Jon Graffam and the other from Daniel Linn. That got them going because they scored one run in the 5th, two in the 6th, and three in the 7th. While they did this they continued playing tight defense and kept Ballsagna off the board. Dice wins, 9-1.

Hose Draggers vs. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air

Probably the most exciting game of the day. The name of this game was defense, defense, defense!! There was so much defense that this game would go scoreless until the 7th inning. There were all sorts of great plays by both teams. In the bottom of the third inning Hose Draggers D was so big that they sent Fresh Kicks packing quickly with a one, two, three inning. Fresh Kicks was getting some kick ass pitching from Brandon, as usual. Then in the bottom of the 5th inning, Hose Draggers defense stepped up yet again. They were able to turn a double play that consisted of getting the second out at home to keep this one scoreless. Draggers Lee Gullickon was responsible for this play. Draggers finally got on the board in the top of the 7th inning to lead 1-0. Fresh would not be out down and got two runners on base. Then Tack Hundley went to the plate and booted an amazing double. Runs were scored and in the end it was Fresh Kicks winning, 2-1.

My Balls Just Dropped vs. Roshambo

In the bottom of the 1st inning Roshambo got the scoring started. They scored their first  run from a RBI single by Lynn Clough. They would go on to score a total of three in the inning. Then in the bottom of the 2nd inning Roshambo scored again on a lady's RBI.  They owe their ladies a lot of credit. Then in the top of the 3rd Dropped got a spark off a SAC fly from Joey Gaviola. But unfortunately for Dropped, Roshambo was just getting started, well actually Chris Cock'n'balls got started. He blasted a three run HR in the 4th and a two run double in the 5th. Roshambo wins, 13-3.

Dice vs. Roshambo

Dice would score two in the first inning, one of which was off a Jon Graffam SAC fly. Then they scored one in the 2nd inning. After that, they scored three in the 3rd. Two of those runs came off a Graham Palmer double. Finally, they scored four in the 5th inning. Three of those runs came off a three run double from John Anderson. In total they put up 10 runs before Roshambo could score their only run in the bottom of the 6th inning. And that would be all the scoring. Dice wins, 10-1.

Hose Draggers vs. Ballsagna

Draggers came out with their hoses up. Derek Keaton accounted for all three runs in the top of the 1st inning with a home run. Draggers would add another run in the top of the 2nd inning. Then in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Ballsagna got a RBI double from Nicole Shoemaker. Draggers would continue to make some big kicks and score one run in the 3rd inning. Ballsagna would counter with two runs in the 3rd from from Ashley Moore. Draggers would stall out for two innings until they scored their last two runs in the top of the 6th inning. Ballsagna did some work during those innings. Derek Freeman kicked a two run HR in the bottom of the 4th inning. Ballsagna would eventually tie the game in the bottom of the 7th inning. Ballsagna wins 8-7.

Fresh Kicks of Ball Air vs. My Balls Just Dropped

Fresh got the scoring started in the top of the 2nd inning with two innings. One of those runs was generated from a Brad Calloway home run. Fresh Kicks would blow this game wide open in the top of the 3rd inning with four more runs. Two of those runs was off a Tac Hundley two run home run. Dropped would try to get a comeback going but could only muster two runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Fresh Kicks wins, 6-2.

Thursday Rocky Mountain Lake Park - Week 6 Highlights

Stache and Lash vs. Don't Stop Ballieving:

Ballieving started this show with an offensive explosion in the bottom of the first inning. They would load the bases and then send Mike Huelskamp to the plate. He would Ballieve his way to booting a two RBI double. His team would muster three other runs for a total of five (I'll try and keep the math simple for those that are a little slow). Ballieving would add to their lead in the bottom of the third with two more runs (7-0). After a scoreless fourth inning, Stache's Jimmy Haluska tried his very best to spark some offense but unfortunately a solo HR is only worth one run. (7-1) Ballieving would answer with two runs in the bottom of the 5th and one in the bottom of the 6th.  Don't Stop Ballieving wins 10-1.

Rubber Balls and Liquor vs. Banzai Lightning:

Balls took an early lead after Lauren Dekker got on base. She worked her way around to third and then the Balls sent Tyler Licausi to the plate. He pelted a sacrifice bunt that would push Lauren across the plate and give them a 1-0 lead. The next scoring wouldn't occur until the top of the 3rd inning. Balls got a two run single from Robert Jaeger and extended their lead to 3-0. Banzai finally got some offense going in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a Justin Spanbauer triple that scored one run and then he scored on a throwing error. This cut the lead to 3-2. After some good defense in the top of the 4th inning Banzai would tie the game at three in the half of the inning. Balls answered in the top of the 5th by getting Stephanie all the way to third. Robert Jaeger would then go to the plate and blast a deep ball that would be caught. Stephanie forgot to tag but got lucky and scored on a bad throw by Banzai. Banzai shock off that bad play and scored two runs in the bottom of the 5th inning (5-4). Then the nail in the coffin was a solo HR by Tory Wood in the bottom of the 6th inning. Banzai Lightning wins, 6-4.

Ball so Hard vs. Flour Power:

Hard scored five runs in the top of 1st inning and never looked back. Flour worked up one run in the bottom of the 1st inning but that would be it for them. Flour did get some good defense in the top of the 2nd inning. Thomas got the ball and secured the out at second base and then turned and hustled home to lock down another out for a pretty stellar double play. In the top of the 4th inning, Hard got a two run triple by Doug Talley. Hard scored a bunch of runs in this one and the last one I'll mention was from Will Kent. He booted a RBI single in the top of the 6th inning. Ball so Hard wins, 13-1.

Alcoballics vs. Grit

The Ballics came into the top of the first inning ready to kick. They were able to score three runs and take the early lead. Grit would eventually tie this game up at three in the bottom of the third. Then Grit took off and blew this game wide open with five runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Alcoballics must have really spent themselves in the 1st inning because they were only able to score one more run in the top of the 4th inning. Grit on the other hand put up a total of 11 runs. Zach was responsible for driving in four of those runs. Grit wins 11-4.

Memorial Ball Park - Week 6 Highlights

Bazinga vs. Pitches Be Crazy: Both teams came into this week looking to exact their power against each other before the playoffs. Bazinga got out to a hot start as they were able to drive home 2 in the top of the 1st. PBC was looking to counterstrike but were taken out by the Bazinga defense. Bazinga looked to put the game out of reach early and often, blasting home 5 to build their lead to 7. Anything PBC tried against Bazinga was simply getting stopped this week, as they weren't able to convert any offense through 4 innings, while Bazinga added 1 in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th to go up 10. Bazinga wouldn't let off the gas pedal as another 2 come barreling home to get up to 12. PBC found a soft spot in Bazinga's defense, and broke up the shutout. Keith Hassan for Bazinga came through in the clutch and put the icing on the cake with a 3 run blast to center to go up by 14. Bazinga would convert 1 more in the 7th, effectively ending the contest. Bazinga wins, 16–1

Jiminy Kick It vs. Kickballers: JKI was looking to bolster their team for a playoff push and KB wanted to add another win onto their resume. Both teams came out defensively stout, as neither team was afforded a run through 2 innings. Bottom 3, and KB converts on a short drop in left to break up the scoreless affair. JKI would answer right back with a run of their own in the top of the 4th to tie the game up at 1. Both teams went back to their defense to hold their other team off the base path. We go to the top of the 7th, and JKI has their hopes come to fruition as they drive home what would be the game winning run on a blast to center field. Jiminy Kick It wins, 2-1

Blue Balls V vs. Hashtag Balls: Both teams were looking to tune their teams for another potential title run. #Balls would get on top early, as an impressive BBV defense allowed 2 early runs in the 1st. BBV would throw their heavy hitters up to bat, and #Balls didn't flinch, going 1-2-3 in the inning. #Balls went back to work in the 2nd, driving home 2 more runs in the 2nd to establish a 4 run lead. BBV made some defensive changes and they worked brilliantly, as they shut down #Balls in the 3rd. A double down the left field line in the 4th put BBV on the board and put pressure on the # defense. Both teams showed they were ready on defense, as both teams were held off the board in the 5th. #Balls would put an exclamation point on the game with 1 more run in the 6th and putting the game out of reach. Hashtag Balls wins, 5-1

Brews on First vs Basic Pitches: BOF was looking to bolster their team against a very solid team in BP. BOF would get on the board early with 3 in the 1st, stunning the BP defense. BP would return fire with 1 of their own to stay with in 2. BP would tweak their defense and it paid massive dividends, as they were able to hold BOF off the scoreboard often. BP would convert defensive prowess into offensive power, as they tied the game up in the 2nd. BP wouldn't be denied on offense as they'd blast home 2 in the 3rd and 4th to go up 7-3. BOF attempted to duplicate their offense from the 1st, but it was too much BP defense and they were denied. BP would blast the doors open in the 5th, cruising around the bases for 6 more runs. BP would add 1 in the 6th to go up 11. BOF was able to get on and score in the 7th, but the BP defense wouldn't allow a Cinderella run. Basic Pitches win, 14-4

City Park - Week 6 and 7 Highlights

City Park Field 1 (6pm)

Wombat Mermaids (Kiwi Green) vs. KickTease (Forest Green): Playing in the rainy/wet conditions can really change the nature of the game, and during this contest it became evident that the elements had an impact on the outcome. Kicktease’s normally staunch defense gave up four runs in the top of 3rd inning as well as three runs in the top of the 4th to those pesky Wombat Mermaids. The Wombat Mermaids were especially inspired by the beauty of the “double rainbow” to elevate their games according to Captain Lauren Melius, just as this guy was. KickTease tried its best to stay in the hunt, including some strategic walks that put some runs on the board. However, the double rainbow effect proved too much. Wombat Mermaids win 10-4.

City Park Field 2 (6pm)

There’s Always Next Year (Tennessee Orange) vs. Left Sharks (Carolina Blue): After trailing early, There’s Always Next Year quickly jumped ahead and held on for as long as possible. They put up two runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning as well as two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to give themselves some breathing room. Kickball super fan, Katy Perry, said after the game: “I give props to the Left Sharks for keeping things close even when they were under-(wo)manned. However, There’s Always Next Year really roared to victory by playing like some true California girls, if you know what I mean…” No Katy, we don’t know what you mean. There’s Always Next Year wins 5-2.

City Park Field 3 (6pm)

Odd Balls (Purple) vs. Lunchbox Violators (Daisy Yellow): What a game! Even though the score wasn’t that close, the fans sure had a lot to cheer about with all the crazy plays!!! Rebecca “Sturdy” Walls from the Odd Balls started things off early with back-to-back splendiferous catches for outs. Meanwhile, RJ “The Salamander” Salavec from the Lunchbox Violators hit his own teammate, Kate “Crafty” Crampton, with the ball while in the field. Kickball officials will be looking into the nature of this happening and whether it constitutes “foul play” on either side. In the end, the Lunchbox Violators did a great job of mixing up big kicks and small bunts to score quite a few runs and truly “violate” the Odd Balls defense. Lunchbox Violators win 8-1.

City Park Field 4 (6pm)

Social License to Intoxicate (Orange) vs. New Kicks on the Block (Sapphire Blue): Social License to Intoxicate wins by forfeit 3-0.

City Park Field 1 (7pm)

Social License to Intoxicate (Orange) vs. Wombat Mermaids (Kiwi Green): In this potential championship preview, we really saw why Social License to Intoxicate is the defending champs. The Wombat Mermaids jumped out to an early lead of 2-0 after two and a half innings, but then Social License to Intoxicate put the pedal to the metal and scored six runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to steal the lead back. The Wombat Mermaids didn’t give up though, as team MVP Melvin Anderson proceeded to kick a solo home run in the top of the 4th inning while also showcasing some impressive juke moves out on the base paths. Anderson has undoubtedly become a standout this season due to his skill on the offensive and defensive side of the ball as a pitcher in the Wombat Mermaid’s rotation. Ultimately though, Social License put together an all-team effort that couldn’t be matched on this night. Captain Mike Schwarz said after the game, “We owe our team unity to our mascot—that Aussie Shepherd/Border Collie mix is just too cute not to love!” Social License to Intoxicate wins 10-4.

City Park Field 2 (7pm)

There’s Always Next Year (Tennessee Orange) vs. Odd Balls (Purple): There’s always Next Year brought out the defensive boomstick this time around, as third baseman/shortstop Dane Anderson didn’t let anything get by him in this muddy matchup. By the end of game, Anderson was more mud than man as he secured another game MVP award. However, the Odd Balls always have at least one trick up their sleeve, as evidenced by the way they turned a foul ball into a double play, thereby negating three more potential runs for There’s Always Next Year. You can see the highlighthere.  The five runs that the Odd Balls gave up in the bottom of the 5th sealed the deal though—There’s Always Next Year wins 9-0.

City Park Field 3 (7pm)
Left Sharks (Carolina Blue) vs. New Kicks on the Block (Sapphire Blue): Left Sharks win by forfeit 3-0.

City Park Field 4 (7pm)

Lunchbox Violators (Daisy Yellow): vs. Kicktease (Forest Green): With almost every inning of this contest producing runs, there was definitely never a dull moment! Erin Rossiter from Kicktease had the play of the game though right off the bat (or kick), with an amazing diving catch in the 1st inning! (Watch the replay here.) “Sometimes the stars align, the rain clears, and my vision sharpens, thereby allowing for that perfect play,” explained Erin in regards to her performance. Unfortunately for KickTease, after the top of the 1st inning, they would never see the lead again—the Lunchbox Violators proceeded to score two runs in the bottom of the 1st and would continue the onslaught in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. Kicktease may just get another shot in the playoffs for redemption however! Lunchbox Violators win 8-4.

Thursday Rocky Mountain Lake Park - Week 5 Highlights

Alcoballics vs. Don't Stop Ballieving:

Alcoballics got the scoring started with a RBI moon shot from Peter Choinski. It was struck so high that no one on Ballieving's team could get too it. After scoring a single run in the 3rd inning, Alcoballics extended their lead to three in the 4th with another RBI moon shot but this one was from Phillip. Then in the bottom of the 4th inning, Ballieving got it going. They got their first run off a RBI double from Matt Mather. Eventually they were able to tie this game at three with a SAC fly from Megan Freas. Both teams would record a single run in the 6th inning to keep this game tied and eventually force extra innings. In the top of the 8th inning the Alcoballics found their offensive stroke. After scoring a single run, they loaded the bases and sent Peter Choinski to the plate. He did not disappoint and belted a grand slam to give his team a five run lead. Ballieving made an awesome effort to come back but were only able to muster four runs. Alcoballics win, 9-8.

Rubberballs and Liquor vs. Flour Power:

This one was all Balls. After a scoreless first inning from both teams. Balls got on the board with four runs in the top of the 2nd inning. They got a two RBI double from Chris Webber in that inning. Flour would score two runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. But then Balls took over. They scored three runs in the 3rd and three runs in the 4th. Flour had a great double play in the top the 4th from Sarah Walker and Brock Jacobs. The final runs would be scored in the top of the 6th inning by Balls. Flour ended on a good note by recording a triple play by Reed Waterson. Rubberballs and Liquor win, 13-2.

Banzai Lightning vs. Team Grit:

Another close one. The scoring started in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Grit got on the board with a single run. Banzai would counter with a big top of the 3rd inning. Their Mike Leugh booted a three run HR to go along with two other runs and take the lead at 5-1. Grit would close the gap by one in the bottom of the 3rd. They would finally take the lead in the bottom of the 4th inning. Grit scored five runs in the inning, two of which came off a Tommy Nickle triple. Banzai would eventually tie this game at seven in the top of the 6th inning. With the game still tied Banzai's Justin Spanbauer went to the plate in the top of the 7th inning. He would blast a solo HR and what would be the winning run. Banzai Lightning wins, 8-7.

Cause We Ball so Hard vs. Stache and Lash:

Both teams got some awesome pitching! The first batter of the game, Hard's Blair Watkins, would reach base and eventually score on a Tejay Gerber double. After that Stache's pitcher, Christine Shiflett, would settle doen and not allow another run over her three innings of work. Bahir Hosny took over the pitching duties for Stache and threw four shut out innings. Unfortunately for Stache, Hard's pitcher Blair Watkins would hurl a gem. It was a complete game shut out! Cause We Ball so Hard wins, 1-0.

Memorial Ball Park - Week 5 Highlights

I'll Cut a Pitch vs Jiminy Kick It: ICP was back and looked reloaded, and JKI was looking prepped to go all out. Neither team was able to score in the 1st, giving the appearance of a defensive battle. That all changed when ICP lit up the Pikes Peak sky with a 5 run burst to break up the scoreless affair. ICP wasn't done, as in the 3rd inning, they used a hole in left center to their advantage often as JKI was able to stop them after 8. JKI shifted their defense around in the 4th, and it proved to be productive as they were able to hold ICP to 2. JKI looked for any large holes or advantages and in the bottom of the 4th, they converted on 2 2-run Home runs to get on the board. Both teams got back to defense in the 5th, as both sides were shut down 1-2-3. In the 6th, ICP looked to put the icing on the cake as they cemented home 2 more runs to go up 17-4. JKI had a glimmer of hope, as they were able to drive home 2, but it was too little too late for the valiant effort for a comeback. I'll Cut a Pitch wins, 17-6

Brews On First vs Bazinga:  Bazinga was looking to keep an unblemished record in tact, while BOF was looking to play spoilers. Bazinga got off to a hot start as an RBI single to right brought home 1 to get the scoring started. Bottom 2, and a bomb by Keith Hausam brings home 2 to go up by 3. BOF was looking anywhere and everywhere for a hole, but we're unsuccessful through 3. Bazinga opened the score wide open, as a pedal to the metal offense brought home 5 to go up 8. Anything BOF wanted on offense, we're simply turned away as they were shut down on 3 pitches in the 4th. Bazinga looked to cement the win with 3 runs in the 4th to go up 11. BOF had runners in prime position, but couldn't convert any offense on this night. Bazinga would effectively end this contest with 2 more runs to end the game. Bazinga wins, 13-0

Hashtag Balls vs Kickballers: #Balls was looking to fine tune their basics to make another deep run in the playoffs, and the KBs was ready to show they aren't a laughing matter. #Balls started the show with a powerful 2 in the 1st. KBs wasn't going to let them get away fast, as they retaliated with 4 of their own to go up 4-2. Neither team was able to push home a run in the 2nd. In the 3rd, both squads got into the same mindset, as both teams scratched home 3 runs to make it a 7-5 game. #Balls wasn't gonna let KBs get away, as they tied the game in the 4th. That didn't last long, as the KBs clawed 1 home to stay up by 1. In the 6th, #Balls converted on a costly drop to tie the game at 8. Bottom 7, and KBs send a line drive to right and #Balls throw it home, but the slide under the ball and onto the plate proved to be the game winner. Kickballers win, 9-8

Basic Pitches vs Pitches Be Crazy: Both teams came in experienced and looking to see where they stood against each other. BP would get out to an early 2 run in the 1st and the gas pedal was on. PBC wasn't able to score in the 2nd, and BP took advantage of the situation, bellowing home 4 crucial runs. PBC would break up the shut out in the 3rd with help of a bloop single to center. BP was not happy, and they pushed harder, for 3 more runs to go up 9-1. Whatever PBC tried, BP had the perfect counter, as PBC was unable to produce runs in the 4th through the 6th. BP would all but put the game out of reach with 2 in the 4th to go up 10 and convert for 4 in the 6th to go up 15-1. PBC was living on a prayer, and we're able to score 2 in the 7th, but it wasn't to be. Basic Pitches wins, 15-3

Sunday Funday - Cuernavaca Park - Week 5 Highlights

Kevin Bacon vs. Star Spangled Hammered

Kevin Bacon jumped out to an early lead with one run in the top of the 1st inning. Bacon also had some pretty stellar 'D' that kept Hammered off the board until the 5th inning. While Bacon was playing that good defense they were able to build their lead with one run in the top of the 4th inning and three runs in the top of the 5th inning. Down 5-0, Hammered scored their first run in the bottom of the 5th inning to break up the shutout. Hammered was able to play some tight defense and give themselves a chance in the bottom of the 7th inning. That is when they made this game real interesting. Hammered scored three runs but that wasn't quite enough. Kevin Bacon wins, 5-4.

Dice vs. My Balls Just Dropped

This was all Dice. They scored nine runs in the top of the 1st, six in the top of the 2nd, three in the 3rd, and four in the 4th. That's a total of 22 runs over the first four innings. Dice also played great defense and only allowed one run over those same four innings. Dice wins, 22-1.

After School Special vs. Shinobi Dragon Ninja

Special started this game off with a bang! Cutter blasted a 3 run HR in the top of the 1st inning. Ninja was not scared scored six runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st inning. This was highlighted by Jesse Irvin's 3 run HR. Special took a break in the 2nd inning but in the 3rd inning they got back to their scoring ways. Special scored five runs in the 3rd, three runs in the 4th, and five more in the 5th. Ninja had to take two innings off before they  got on the board again. They would score one run in the 4th, three runs in the 5th, and five runs in the 7th. Blair Withington accounted for three of the runs in the 7th with a HR. After all the scoring was finished, this was a close game. After School Special wins, 16-15.

Hose Draggers vs. Roshambo

Roshambo took the early lead with one run in the bottom of the 1st inning. Hose Draggers would answer with two runs of their own in the top of the 2nd inning. Trailing by one run, Roshambo's Mike Reed walked to the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning. He booted a solo HR and tied this game at 2 a piece. Both teams would score one run in the 3rd inning to keep this game tied. Hose Draggers got some good defense along way from catcher Lee Gullickson. He made a pretty spectacular throw to get the runner on their way to first base. Roshambo would break the tie in the bottom of the 5th inning with two RBIs from Kevin Dough. Hose Draggers could only muster one run in the top of the 6th inning to make the game 5-4 in favor of Roshambo. With the score remaining the same this game entered the final inning. Hose Draggers went to the plate and manufactured two runs to take a one run lead. They would then take the field and play some tight defense to lock up the victory. Hose Draggers win, 6-5.

Ballsagna vs. Fresh Kicks of Ball Air

What a great game!! Kicks got on the board first with a RBI single from Steve B. in the bottom of the 1st. Ballsagna scored their first runs in the top of the 2nd inning off a Derek Freeman two run HR. Then in the bottom of the 2nd inning Ballsagna played some great defense. They were able to relay a throw all the way to the plate and get a run saving out. Kicks were able to get one in the inning to tie this game at 2. Then in the top of 5th inning, Ballsagna's Derek Freeman scored on a fluke play. He was on first when the ball lightly kicked on the ground. The ball was over thrown at first base and went into the outfield. Freeman was on his horse and scored all the way from first base on the play. Kicks got a break of their own in the bottom of the 6th inning. Ballsagna dropped a routine fly ball and allowed Kicks to score the game tying run. In all we would play three extra innings and still couldn't get a winner. No matter what team did, the other team would match it. Game called in a tie, 5-5.

Untouchaballs vs. Booze on 1st

It was a little intimidating reffing this game. With George Washington, 2 Abraham Lincolns, and the Statue of Liberty playing there was a lot of pressure to get things right. The Untouchaballs were not the least bit intimidated and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning. Both of these runs came off a double by George McGuirk. Booze would answer with one run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to keep this game real close.  In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Untouchaballs got some pretty awesome defense from their third baseman Ryan Zelanka. He fielded a ground ball and came up firing. His throw was little awry but still hit home. The ball struck the runner in the foot. Combine that with the wet grass and the runner went down. I doubt he could do it again but it was a great play! With all those great historic leaders on their side and I'm sure a few inspirational speeches were given, Booze was able to mount a come back. They scored one run in the bottom of the 4th inning off a Lauren Zoeller single. Then they scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Both teams played good defense and kept this game scoreless over the last two innings. Booze on 1st win, 3-2.

Thursday Rocky Mountain Lake Park - Week 3 and 4 Highlights

Team Grit vs. Rubber Balls and Liquor

Balls took an early lead in this contest by scoring one run in each of the first three innings. In the bottom of the 3rd, Balls' Kate Townsend drove in the run with a RBI single. Then Grit finally got their offense going and tied the game at three. A big part of this was a Muki Mutsija RBI triple. The game would remain tied until the top of the 6th inning and Grit went to the plate. They were able to score four more runs and take their first lead, 7-3. Balls wouldn't go quietly. Their Will Flottman booted a solo HR to finish off the scoring. Grit wins, 7-4.

Stache and Lash vs. Banzai Lightning

Banzai took the early lead and wouldn't look back. They scored two runs in the 1st inning and one run in the 2nd inning, 3-0. Lash received some good defense from Mike Linde. He made a fantastic inning ending catch in the bottom of the 4th inning. His team would use his energy and plate their first run in the top of the 5th inning. Banzai would answer with their own run in the bottom of the 5th inning off a RBI double from Nicki Unrein. In the top of the 6th inning, Lash's Justin O'keefe blasted a triple which helped plate his teams second run. Again Banzai would answer with their own run in the bottom of the 6th inning. Banzai wins, 5-2.

Don't Stop Balleiving vs. Cause We Ball so Hard

This was a great game with some awesome plays! The only run scored was by Balleiving in the top of the 2nd inning. Shane blasted a RBI triple to give his team a 1-0 lead. There were a bunch of great defensive plays. Balleiving had several fantastic plays from the Huelskamps. Scott Huelskamp had a double play in the top of the 2nd inning and Candra Huelskamp had a badass kick out as the catcher in the top of the 4th inning. But the best defensive play came off a Balleiving blast to Hard's center fielder Doug Tally. Doug made the catch and quickly relayed it in to the pitcher Blair Watkins. Blair spun quickly and threw out the runner trying to tag from third. Unfortunately for these mothers they couldn't score any runs.  Don't Stop Balleiving wins, 1-0.

Cause We Ball so Hard vs. Team Grit

Hard started this show by scoring one run in the top of the 1st inning. Scott Aller booted the run home for Hard. Then in the bottom of the 2nd inning, it was Grit's turn to score. They made it look easy and plated six runs. Christian had a 2 RBI single and Jeff Dodd had a 2 RBI double. Hard would close the gap in the top of the 3rd inning with three runs of their own. Tejay Gerber accounted for two of those runs when he knocked a two run HR. Grit's Muki Matsija would get his team another run in the bottom of the 4th inning with a SAC fly. Hard would close the gap to two runs in the 6th inning by scoring another run but Grit had the answer. Grit's Jeff Dodd booted a RBI single, which would end the scoring for the game. Team Grit wins, 8-5.

Don't Stop Balleiving vs. Flour Power Too

Balleiving came ready to play. Balleiving's Dan Berlau kicked a solo HR in the top of the 1st inning to give his team the early lead. Then in the top of the 2nd inning Balleiving was able to score another run. But the highlight from this inning came from Flour Power's pitcher Chuck. With two outs and a runner on base, Chuck made a phenomenal catch to end the inning. With the score at 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning, Flour finally got some Power. They were able to plate their first run and end the shutout. In the top of the 6th inning Flour's catcher, Jamie Emanuel, made an amazing catch to keep the game close. Her team would be able to score one more run in the bottom of the 7th inning but that would be all that they could muster. Don't Stop Balleiving wins, 4-2.

Stashe and Lash vs. Flour Power Too

Lash came out swinging big. They were able to score four runs in the top of the 1st inning. Three of those runs came off a home run by Brent Sexton. Flour would answer in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own. Lash might have went too big in the 1st because their offense would go cold for a few innings. Flour's offense on the other hand kept right on churning. They would score one run in the next three innings not only tie the game but take the lead by two, 6-4. Flour's Ted Gunn accounted for one of those runs with a RBI single. Lash would get some good defense along the way from Brocklie Jacobs and Chuck Marian. Those two turned a double play in the top of the 5th inning. Lash would finally get their batteries recharged and score one more run in the top of the 7th inning. Flour Power Too wins, 6-5.

Rubber Balls and Liquor vs. Alcoballics

This was a high scoring affair. Rubber would score two in the first, two in the second and two in the third. Alcoballics would score four in the first, two in the second and four in the third. Matt Evans accounted for the two runs in the bottom of the second for the Alcoballics with a two run home run. Then someone by the name of Jaeger Miester tied the game in the top of the 3rd inning with a two run double. Alcoballics would be able to sustain their offense and score one run in each of the next two innings to push the lead to six. Alcoballics win, 12-6.

Banzai Lightning vs. Alcoballics

Lot's of action! Banzai scored a whooping five runs in the top of the 1st inning. Not to be out done, Alcoballics matched that with five of their own in the bottom of the 1st. Then in the top of the 2nd inning, Banzai's Troy Terrell-Dacty booted a two run HR to give his team the lead. Banzai would go on to score one run in the 3rd inning and the 5th inning. Alcoballics finally got there offense going again in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jimmy Ross took care of business by kicking a three run HR. In the bottom of the 6th inning, Alcoballics took their first lead when they scored two more runs, 10-9. Banzai weren't ready to quit and tied the game when they scored a single run in the top of the 7th inning. Alcoballics kept their offensive mojo going and were able to score one more run in the bottom of the 7th inning to win. Alcoballics win, 11-10.

Memorial Ball Park - Week 4 Highlights

Basic Pitches vs Jiminy Kick It:

BP and JKI came into this midseason game looking ready for the playoffs now. BP struck early and often, putting JKI on ice in the 1st with a 3 run inning. JKI was a person down in this extravaganza and it showed, as BP was able to set them down 1-2-3. BP went back on an aerial assault, dropping bombs into left and right field for a 4 run burst. JKI stayed the course though, as they were able to get runners into scoring position, but were unable to convert. BP wanted to put the game out of reach early as another run came home in the 3rd to solidify their lead to 8. JKI wasn’t going to go down without a fight, but BP proved to be too much on this night, as BP was able to hang on for the shutout. Basic Pitches wins, 8-0

Blue Balls V vs: Brews on First:

BOF was coming into the week ready to get a playoff push, but BBV came as the virus known as Ebola. Ebola hit BOF early, scoring 1 in the top of the 1st. BOF wasn’t going to let Ebola ruin their spirits, but were unsuccessful as they were shut down 1-2-3 in the 1st. Ebola really hit BOF hard in the 2nd, and with the assistance of a 2 run triple, brought home 4 to go up 5-0. BOF stayed persistent, but were unsuccessful in bringing home any runs. Ebola struck home 3 more in the 3rd and 1 in the 4th to go up 9-0. Top 5, Ebola put the finishing touches on the game, as 2 more runs in the 5th proved to be the dagger in the game, as BOF wasn’t able to muster any offense this game. Blue Balls V wins 11-0.

Hashtag Balls vs Bazinga:

In a rematch from the title game seasons ago, this game was a good measuring stick for how each team stacked up. #Balls got on the board early scoring 1 in the 1st and putting Bazinga in a very unfamiliar trailing position. #Balls struck again in the 2nd, going up 2-0. Bazinga wasn’t happy with their position, and decided to take charge of the situation scoring 3 to go up by 1. Bazinga was ready to blow the game out of the water, and did so blasting home 5 more runs and holding off #Balls on offense to go up 8-2. The rest of the way, neither team was able to score any more runs showing that both teams’ defenses are ready for the playoffs. Bazinga wins, 8-2

KickBallers vs Left Shark:

KB and LS came into the nightcap game pushing for playoff seed supremacy. KB stayed off the board in the 1st, but Alex Moorhead for LS blasted a HR deep to left center to go up 1-0. KB wasn’t too thrilled, and retaliated with a run of their own in the 2nd to knot up the game at 1. Top 3, and Adam Hills blasts an RBI double to center to give KB a 1 run lead. Top 4, and Alex Moorhead was up to his all-out effort, as a diving catch at the pitcher’s mound ended the 4th from KB from doing any more damage than the 1 run. Left Shark simply had no answers for KB’s defense, as they weren’t able to score any more runs against the KickBallers.  KickBallers wins, 4-1
